Guess the title says it all... I know the Alliance was vastly outnumbered, but is there any official count of ships present on either side of the battle, fighters and all? Or a casualty count too, for that matter... May not be the place for this, but I figure that since they don't say in the movie, it must be in the literature

Empire - Approx. 40
Imperial
-class Star Destroyers, over a thousand fighters, the
Executor
, and, of course, the Death Star II.
Alliance - Approx. 25 Mon Cal cruisers, 10 Nebulon-B frigates, about a hundred GR-75 transports, approx. 500 fighters, and about a hundred Blockade Runners.

No official number. Like Adm Thrawn said, 40+ ISDs, the
Ex
, 25-30+ MC cruisers (including at least two and as many as six 3+ km
Home One
types), thousands of fighters, and however many smaller capships.
There's been alot of fan work done on this, but no consensus yet.
This
thread might help you out.

Yeah, all of those numbers are approximations and estimates taken from
The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook
.

Gotta get my hands on that one. That's like the fifth reference to it I've seen in the past week.

What are GR-75 transports? The transports we see leaving Hoth?
Are those even the slightest bit usefull in combat aside fromm canon fodder?

Trooop carriers? I think the SotG sourcebook by Wizards says they come lightly armed and can probably be modified with more armaments to serve as support vessels.

40 Impstars? You've got to be kidding. Where did that come from?

I have the
Truce at Bakura
sourcebook and no where does to mention 100 corvettes or stuff like that. The only good counts we have is for the
Imperial
-class Star Destroyers and the Mon Calamari cruisers. Everything else is conjecture.

... so yeah, in the movie it looks like 3-4 Mon Cals, about 5 Corellian Corvettes... couple of medium frigates lol... I can see there being maybe 20+ ImpStars... but thats why I was asking- what you see and what is there isn't always the same...
The thing that always got me is you see MAYBE 3 squadrons of Alliance fighters, but there HAD to be more than that... and I know roughly how many fighters an ImpStar can carry, so that kinda threw me.

So how much of each respective fleet was at the Battle of Endor?
I take it the rebellion sent in all of the forces that it could since this was seen as it's last chance to defeat the Empire.
The Emperor on the other hand seemed over confident of his success, and might have underestemiated how many fleet resources he would need.
40 Star Destroyers just seems like not a whole lot to garrison an entire galaxy.

My first impression is that the Rebel Alliance would have sent every available ship into the battle, but thinking back, they didn't actually EXPECT a battle. It was supposed to be more of a covert mission. In the big scheme of things, Imperial intelligence would definately catch on if EVERY REBEL SHIP WAS CONGREGATING IN ONE PLACE. So much for the surprise attack. I wouldn't doubt if the alliance sent a sizeable fleet somewhere else to draw imperial attention. That being said, I wouldn't doubt if the imperials scattered a bit as not to tip off the fact that they know about the Rebel's plan.

Well, the Rebel fleet was also amassed around Mon Calamari, so shrug.
Well, I can name almost 30 ImpStars there, so 40+ isn't that far off.

It's not. The fleet at Endor was IIRC composed of elements of Vader's Death Squadron and the Moddell sector fleet.
The entire galaxy had 25,000 ISDs at the very least. Plus, of course, millions of smaller capships and billions/trillions of fighters. And likely a couple thousand larger capships.

Ugh. Yucky. From memory
Judicator,
Chimaera,
Relentless,
Devastator,
Conquest,
Stalker,
Avenger,
Vengeance II,
Eleemonsary,
The other 3 Grand Admiral ships - I always forget them
Indictor,
Imputator,
Pulsar,
Accuser,
Adjucator,
Adjudicator,
Virulence,
Vehement,
Implacable,
Retaliator,
Redoubtable,
Harrsk's Nameless One,
Thunderflare,
Personal Conjecture
With Judicator and Chimaera and Relentless, most probably includes Nemesis, Bellicose, Inexorable - noted as serving with Chimaera and Judicator pre-Endor, during X-wing Alliance.
25, at least, 28, at most.
And then one Comm ship, one Executor, one VSD - Desolator (?) - one Tector.
Thats 29 at least, 32 at best.
