*Whew*

Okay, that was a decent read! Much heavier on the jargon this time around. Noticably more British slang, too: lads, kit, etc. Pretty action-oriented and nice character development as well; I liked seeing people other than Etain becoming upset about humans being grown for a slave army. It didn't move quite as fast for me as Hard Contact, but it's still the second-best Prequel-era book I've read. The book isn't loaded with humor, but there were enough funny bits to make me genuinely laugh aloud while reading. CSI Coruscant in particular made me grin.

Because I live to nitpick, I wish Qibbu The Hutt hadn't inched out of the kitchens (p.152). I can deal with bacon & eggs for breakfast and Roman letter acronyms, but the GFFA hasn't inches AFAIK.

I'm glad Traviss had a decent proofreader. It does my librarian heart proud.

"Some of them were female officers, too. They were fascinated by his armor. He enjoyed explaining the parts and functions to them, and wondered why they giggled when he told them how easy it was to take off." (p. 374) Yes, yes, I get that the author enjoys lads in armor.

It was interesting seeing urban warfare for a change, and I'd like to go pick up a second copy to send to my brother-in-law in Baghdad to see what he thinks.

And while the story wrapped up nicely, I am glad the groundwork was laid for further adventures of the squad.

Now if only I could read that -- I make out something about missing each other, enough to convince me you aren't lying, but I still don't really get what's going on, which just annoys me. frustrated

Karen had this to say in my response to why she didnt slot Ryan:

P.S. you should have named one of the guys they captured and tortured.. Kaufman grin

* strokes fluffy white cat *

* leers at camera, sporting duelling scar *

But that would have been too quick a death, Meester Bond....far too quick....

Best
KT

Karen Traviss

cutted from my email response from her.

Ryan best watch out in LOTF

For lack of a better term, is it very Mandalorian-y? While the clones may be exposed to Mandalorian culture, at times I wonder if Traviss starts thinking they are Mandalorians (the GAR article entries for Bacara and Fox, for example, paint them basically as wannabe Mandalorians). So are the clones here through-and-through Republic soldiers with some Mandalorian bits picked up, or are they Mandalorians-by-proxy?

*sigh*

I really shouldn't be here...

So, Etain bears a Force-sensitive son who will be trained as a Mandalorian? thinking

I could have used that as background for my fic. tongue
