^One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other. The Insider doesn't "suck" because there's no more movies coming out or because the TV series will or will not be successful. The Insider falters because it only lives in yesteryear or in fan activities rather than focusing on the plethora of EU material that's already out. The comics, novels, video games have been going strong for a long time and, I'm sure, will continue to do so. And I'm not even talking about reporting on these things. I think most of us here just want more of the same. More original fiction, maybe a comic strip, and more articles that help flesh out the EU. Bridge some retcon-worthy gaps, answer long debated speculation about continuity indescrepencies. It's not a matter of them not having enough to report on, it's a matter of them not reporting on the "right" things.

But, then again, that's just what I'm looking for. I hardly speak for the whole of the SW community. blush

And you guys say that star wars isn't dieing? I see the same thing happen like in in 1985. Everybody here keeps thinking that the animation and the live action is going to do Titanic, Lord of the Rings Two Towers like numbers on tv. Well it ain't.

Well, considering that I've just seen the numbers for the DH comics and they're VERY RESPECTABLE for monthly comics (and this isn't counting the TPB's and neglects the fact that these are only direct market numbers), and the fact that we've had several NYT best-selling novels come out of Del Rey recently, with SACRIFICE already going back to print and a sure-thing for the NYT Bestseller list, and the merch is still flowing just fine, and we have TWO television projects on the way, as well as a massive multi-media project for the next gen consoles that's generating lots of buzz...

...you've got a weird take on what "death" means to a franchise.

There's a massive difference between some problems with the official magazine and a problem with the franchise. Considering how quickly Titan had the contract dumped on them I'm hoping that this is just a period of adjustment and I'm willing to give them a few months to pull up.

Quite amusing, yes.

A quick update on Vader's Legacy folks: it remains on hold. Bummer.

However, some of the elements originally intended for VL have found a home in a new project ... coming very soon.

Very soon.

Given he mentions in the other thread that his Dawn of Defiance adventure will have Domain of Evil references in it, I think he's probably referring to that.

EDIT: Given recent mentions of forthcoming announcements in yet another thread, my prior assessment is likely in need of revision.

It's true. But I'm more Rizzo than Sandra Dee ... if I'm giving the signs, it shouldn't be long.

That said, you might want to take a look at the Insider 96 thread. (Yes, I write my thread posts the same way I do my Star Wars work: pretentious and suggestive with a hint of self-effacement).

I generally don't say anything unless something's in the bag. In fact, that should say more about the unforeseen situation surrounding Vader's Legacy than about the reliability of the information I post here. VL got pulled out of the bag at the 11th hour, so to speak. Now he's like, "Dude, where's my bag? I totally had a bag!"

But you know, other much larger projects have had it worse, Essential Guide to Episode I and the Darth Plagueis book just to name two.

Nothing against him personally. He's taking five with most of Vader's other "apprentices."

So the story where Tao dies and Vader gets OMGZ!OWNED by a tusken raider isn't canon? wink tongue

I've nothing against Tao, well not really, it's the story in which he appears - and Vader's less-than-evil attitude - that rubs me up the wrong way. Call me stupid *shrug*

Tao's canonicity is not affected by this delay, since it wasn't Abel's article that made him canon.

Really? thinking

What did? confused

*Just ignore the sound of swords sharpening, they're uh... for decorative puposes wink shhh *

Seriously though, I think there needs to be some serious explanation as to why Vader was so utterly overwhelmed by a Force sensitive tusken raider.

The Tusken Raider being A'Sharad is a very good idea and helps justify it - but I don't think it works on its own... since Vader, at this point, shouldn't be having any trouble from the future Krayt. (Now, flow walk Krayt back from Legacy and I'm sure things would be very different devil ) Maybe the Emperor put some super poison in his tubes of food as punishment or something (meh, could happen), and Vader's not only fighting off a maddened A'Sharad Hett, but also the poison's influence.

I mean, that's a pretty rubbish idea, but it gets my point across.

IIRC, the Tao story, while initially published with the Infinities logo, was republished in the UK without it, making it canon.

That depends on whether we're to assume A'Sharad Hett is just below Obi Wan in power or not.

ANH Darth Vader > ANH Obi-Wan Kenobi

Though perhaps not to as great an extent as Vader himself thinks.

By the time ANH rolls around, Obi-Wan should be a LOT more powerful/skilled than A'Sharad (he's learning more and more about the Living Force from Qui-Gon after all) - even if he was only a little stronger than him during the RotS days... so Vader should be able to take on A'Sharad no problem.

I mean, by ANH, Vader isn't the "Sith Lord in Darth name only" that he was in RotS. He's a fully fledged Dark Lord of the Sith who's, roughly speaking, 80% of the near demi-deity Darth Sidious. No one else that he has a real interest in killing should hold a candle to him.
