Is the article going to cover how in Dark Lord, Palpatine says that there's only one true Sith holocron and that the rest are fakes made to fool the Jedi?

IIRC there are several Plagueis had mentioned in ROTS, and curiously Palpatine said he was allowed to see them once, as if he lost them, somehow, or never found them after he killed Plagueis.

As for the Temple ones all being fakes, that's actually already been semi-(pre?)-retconned, I understand, in that Dooku raided the Temple before ROTS in New Droid Army, stealing the Lorian Nod holocron and presumably all the "real" Sith ones the Temple had (and maybe he did other stuff, we know Dooku likes to screw with the archives). So we know the ones left for Vader to take were fake, but presumably the ones taken by Dooku were not. I find it extremely difficult to believe that the Jedi never captured any legitimate Sith holocrons.

He doesn't say there is only one true holocron. Palpatine says that Plagueis had let him see the real ones. It was plural.

Any hint on the web enhancement?

'Cause there are some pretty interesting obscure sources dealing with him that need references. Particuarly him fighting Luke over a Sith Amulet in Yoda Stories (which could possibly be connected to his indestructable Mandalorian crushgaunt... a legacy of his, right? mischief batting ) Also, various boss beasts first appearing to be him in the Namco Star Wars game, and his legendary ("Vader... with a Gun!?!") gun from Empire Strikes Back for NES, Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire, and the old Kenner toy line.

You know, I'm all for retconning things and tying stuff together, but I'm not a fan of gratuitous stuff. I don't see the need to tie in every toy, coloring book, and video game just 'cause it's cool. Some stuff is better left N-canon or ignored. In my opinion, of course. Shoehorns aren't the best tools of retconning, and new material is always more welcome than an obscure reference.

Just my centicreds, of course.

I know, I know. beatup In all reality, I guess I wouldn't want "gratuitous references" either.

But if they can be worked in intelligently, in a way that flows nicely...

The beauty is that the older stuff is always there, just waiting to be used if needed.

>LIke the Story of General Grievous, Vader's Legacy will probably consist of two parts, one for Insider, one for Hyperspace. Luke would be in the second part. <

YES!!!

>Entirely new. I actually proposed Vader's Legacy for the Vader Guide, but it was thought too EU heavy.<

Would that be the same Guide that fixed the Savage Heart/Darth Vader's Return/Scoundrel's Luck mess and the Glove of Darth Vader? tongue wink

>The psychadelic retreat Luke uses in Before the Storm. Again, just because it's not in the Insider piece, don't count it out.<

Hyperspace? grin

That might interfere with his Force control, for the fore idea, and a voice control interfere's with the presence of a Sith lord, I'd say...

Voice Control;

"Luke, it is your destiny-"

*Squawks as the air conditioning in his helmet turns to freezing*

"Wait a minute, wait a minute. Fate?"

*Air conditioning turns warmer, and Vader sighs*

"Thats better, now, where were we -urk!"

*head rolls away, Luke shakes head in disbelief at the simple victory*

Are you in the mood for any further Star Wars Galaxies references, Abel?

The Emperor's Retreat on Naboo is just BEGGING for an explanation, as well as the Jedi village of Aurilia wink
It just didn't fit in naturally, unfortunately.

Nice. You know this could actually give some insight into what they of Legacy Luke could leave behind. By that I mean how Vader's is actually detailed and thus apply the way they go about it to Luke. For those worried about Luke's Legacy due to the release fo the Legacy comic series, we might have a clue as to what LFL/DR/and possibly DH mean by "legacy" left behind.

It doesn't have to be actual events, could be something that was built, etc.
Ben Skywalker will likely appear in the supplement.

Could we even get a second reference to that new Manga, since it had a story about Vader having another apprentice...? batting drooling
It's a good bet.

The Dark Empire radio drama reveals that Palpatine never figured out how to make or use a holocron, which is even more ridiculous.
You have to remember, when Dark Empire introduced the concept of the holocron, it was implied that there was only one. This was later changed, but Palpatine's holocron was in fact *the* Jedi Holocron, not a Jedi holocron.

"It's for these reasons that I believe the suggestion that the Darth Vader which Luke Skywalker fights in Splinter might be a dark side doppleganger is a near-necessary compliment to an already existing, incomplete fix (Luke’s assertion of "I am Ben Kenobi")."

From http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/swfa/Ret-Con.html

This wouldn't come up in the Vader article, would it? (Have to say, I'm not too wild about the idea...)

No, that kinda misses the point of the essay. This is strictly an interpretive exercise. The language is precisely chosen, which is why I wrote "near-necessary" rather than "required." The obligation of proper conjecture falls to the reader.

BTW, Emperor's Retreat is also featured in Star Wars Galaxies: Ruins of Dantooine, though negative reviews have put that book very low on my "to read" list.
I admit, this one's been the backburner for me as well, but I did finally purchase it.

I think the Emperor's Retreat might be more of a Palpatine's Legacy-type thing though. Vader has his own interesting retreats, such as Bast Castle, his Coruscant residences, etc.

You might get lucky and find one at your local B&N still, on the top racks of the magazine stands or even in the Star Wars section. Joe Corroney is also selling some extras at his website.

One would think that Naboo is one of those places that Darth Vader spends as little time as possible - if he avoids Tatooine to avoid "waking" Anakin Skywalker, surely the same goes with Naboo? Maybe Palpatine can use this to his advantage, keep Lord Vader on Naboo on extended times now and then and so make his apprentice face his past and become less sure of himself as he has to fight with and bury his past again, and so he would be less a threat to his master´s current well being? After all, Sidious needs to keep Vader strong enough to serve him well, but not strong enough to overthrow and kill him...
These days, I'm not so sure, at least not early in their Sith relationship. I think Karen Traviss did a terrific job of portraying Palpatine as twistedly paternal; you get the sense he *wants* Vader to be able to kill him. Of course, maybe Palp saw that as a challenge to motivate himself to make sure he figured out the secret of immortality. One of my favorite quotes about Palpatine is that "wheels within wheels within wheels was his way."

The author of that particular interpretive exercise has been known to write articles making what was previously conjecture official. From time to time. tongue
