Disappointing? Poppycock! We got news on an upcoming book, like we wanted, while still leaving another one shrouded in mystery. Speculation can still run rampant on multiple fronts!

Well, it's great news that we get another book. But aside from learning that this will be a video game tie-in (hopefully more in the vein of Shadows of the Empire, rather than Ruins of Dantooine), we found out nothing about the book. They basically said, "By the way, there's another book coming out. But we won't give info about that, and move back info concerning another book."

That said, this Feb. 2008 hardcover better have a real good excuse for why we haven't learned much about it yet. If it's just another stand-alone novel during the OT, I will be pretty bitter.

As a wild guess I would say that one possibility why we have not learned anything about it yet is that the author will not be one of the established SW authors. It seems that they have had hard time of finishing the contract, so perhaps the book could be written by a relatively big name from SF/F field?

Only if he wants to live dangerously... Or perhaps he likes hate mail? plain

I hope that this is not the case. His two SW books have been below average on quality.

^ No.

Of these two I have only read VP, but it was one of the best in the NJO.

I consider it to be the worst of NJO when I evalute it based just on the writing and how the plot was handled and leave the death of Chewie aside from the consideration - which was not the fault of Salvatore.

Hopefully it's more like Revenge of the Sith. SotE = teh suck.

Well I was talking in terms of multimedia projects, of which Shadows of the Empire was the only one so far (at least, that incredibly focused). I've heard some less-than-savory opinions of SotE, but it served as my first introduction to the EU so it holds a nice spot in my heart. But the idea of telling the same story from different points of view was really innovative.

Indeed. Right now, I suspect that while the game will focus on the Secret Apprentice, the book will likely focus on that samurai Jedi, and the comic... perhaps Vader and Palpy?

Seems likely, but at the same time i'm sure i read somewhere that Haden Blackman had said the book would basically cover the canon version of the story? Also if this 'apprentice' has a secret identity then it could well be that he is still going to be a main focus in any of the other versions of TFU.

This is an imaginary story... aren't they all supposed to fit together, though?
An animated cartoon about Obi-Wan and Padawan Anakin would have made more sense.
