Blast, I was about to PM you and ask to do Daniel Keys Moran this time around. Next week, maybe?

On topic, Elaine Cunningham's Dark Journey, while not quite as bad as I was led to believe, was so utterly forgettable that I really can't comment on her writing style. All I remember of note is that she mucked up the Fel/Chiss connection.

EDIT: Poor word choice.

Elaine actually inserted some romance into the utterly black and that's only because they can't find anything darker NJO and for that I'm very grateful.

She also did Anakin's funeral and established that he's dead and NEVER coming back.

"nope, still dead."

Putting hum-ho DJ after SBS made no sense. And she killed off Teneniel D'jo just for the hell of it.

And for some reason decided that Isolder/Jaina made even a lick of sense.

It doesn't. At all. doh!

Other than that, I don't remember too much about the novel.

It didn't even in the book.

It was Isodor wanting a hot young mini-Leia.

You should have done it sooner. I was considering him too. Every time somone PMs me to request an author, it's always someone I almost did for the last one. Crazy. shock

I (unlike the majority it seems) enjoyed Dark Journey, but the title is a bit of a misnomer. Jaina, whilst her 'Dark Journey' shouldn't have extended past this book, it should have been a lot deeper. Instead, we were told. rather than shown, that she did a lot of stuff that was bad, and chucked a lightning hissy fit at Kyp.

She did 'get' Kyp though, making him a much more understandable character than early on in the NJO.

Dark Journey's fine performance hurled me from any future books of hers. I never stood a chance.

I honestly don't get what people disliked about Dark Journey. It was a radical shift from the problems of the Yuuhzhan Vong war and a focus instead of an interior political struggle. It also was what created the Jag/Kyp/Jaina triangle.

What I didn't get was this:

Ta'a Chume: Your wife is dying. Forget about her

Isolder: OK

Ta'a Chume: Go fetch that girl. She looks like Leia!

Isolder: Yes, mum.

How did Isolder manage when (Dark Nest Spoilers for those in NJO) Jacen fried her brain?

Isolder has no power except royal blood. Once there is a Queen, he is basically a consort that gives her legitamacy.

I don't have so many problems with Dark Journey but with Red Sky, Blue Flame.

- Killing off Stent
- Pirates are able to destroy Nirauan (that only makes any sennse at all if RSBF takes place immediately after VotF when Nirauan is still crippled by the Luke/Mara actions and the pirates are those of HoT. Unfortunately, Sue Rostoni decided to place RSBF elsewhere on the timelime which still makes me sick sick sick )

On the other hand, Elaine Cunningham never said that Jagged Fel isn't a clone and the military actions in Dark Journey actually made more sense than that mission to Myrkr fiasco so I'll give her the benefit of doubt.

I liked Dark Journey except for how short Anakin's funeral was made. But like Kyptastc said, it brought out the 'right' Kyp. But you almost have to be a fan of Kyp's to like Dark Journey. Besides, how can you analyze a SW author who has written only one SW book? I think it's a bit premature to make conclusions about her as a SW writer.
