Havac, seriously, okay? Seriously. Your restrictions are unfair. How can one not gush when discussing these two wizards of the written word?

I said in the last thread that Daniel Keys Moran was the best author to grace the EU. I lied. That honor is split among the two scribes in question this week.

It was childish and teenish. There was no reason why it had to be made official continuity, other than the sporadic and increasing Bantamite references to it precipitated that elf-headed Link.

Is it bad? No, it's actually not. At the time, as it still is, they're just for fun reads, and you cannot judge it on your higher standards.

Objectivity is important, even though you know as an interviewer that obese woman on the other side of your desk is highly unlikely to get that job. People dislike Jade, but most of them only after VOTF. If anyone does in Allegiance, I'm going to take Gamorrean pleasure in reminding them she was supposed to be digestable then. shame_on_you

It's the eternal question: can it be so bad it's good? The Davids have answered with a resounding yes.

A resounding yes.

There seems to be three stages to the journey that is a fan's relationship with the GodV series. First comes your first reading of it, when you're a kid and don't know any better. At that time it's awesome.

Then you look back on it as a teen-- you're jaded, you're cynical, and you can't believe what a horrid mess it is. Go away, GoDV, and become non-canon!

Then you reread them as an adult and realize that they're hysterical, especially in conjunction with certain fungi and herbs. And at that point you embrace them as the best thing to grace the EU since...

...well, ever.

If they were intending deadpan comedy then they are geniuses of the highest order.

If they were intending serious works for pre-teens... doh!

A-freaking-men!! grin

Seriously though, oftentimes during the books I've wondered what exactly they were thinking as they wrote those books. A Hutt with a beard? Ken is locked away in the Jedi library and yet seems to know everything in the galaxy? Triclops? confused

One response is only needed when talking about the juvenile nature of the GODV novels; what were you expecting from what is clearly childrens' literature? I'm not talking about teen series like Potter or His Dark Materials but childrens' novels. They're terrible, no doubt there. However, they were written for little kids.

On top of that they are the funniest EU novels bar none. This is bad in a good way instead of the tried "funny but comes off as extreme trite" bad novels out there. I laugh harder during Mission to Mount Yoda than I ever did in an Allston attempt. This so bad it's good is better than most of the just plain bad EU novels.

To sum it, mofference> yub yub commander.

Um, I've got no idea what GodV or these people are . . . I assume this is a good thing.

Basic rundown please?

The Rebel Alliance foils fiendish plans by the Empire, like killing whales, burning the rainforest, polluting the air, and (of course!) littering. Hilarity ensues!
