The New Jedi Order-abandoned and discarded after a mere seven years of existence. The Clone Wars was finished up in three years. There is no room left for New Republic stories other than an occasional short. This leaves three eras left in the galaxy to explore.

Sith Era: Nomi Sunrider, Knights of the Old Republic, the beginning of the Sith through the Battle of Ruusan. This sets up the saga. From the unspecified beginning to 1000 BBY.

Inter-trilogy: Inbetween one mediocre trilogy and one that awe-inspires to this day. The Jedi Purge. Darth Vader and the Emperor wiping the Jedi out. The beginning of the Rebel Alliance. Han Solo's first adventures. This is the one LFL is leaning towards. 19 BBY-0ABY.

Legacy: Legacy of the Force, and the Legacy comic books, and so far there's no end point to this saga. Essentially this era will dictate Star Wars' direction. 40 ABY-unspecified end.

Anyway, which of these eras do you want to read the most? Do you want all the blanks filled in the past or inbetween the trilogies? Or would you rather see where the saga goes?

Discuss and please avoid Del Rey-bashing. I would say the same about Dark Horse, but it seems they can't do any wrong on these boards . . .

Personally, I want to read more of the Legacy era. Nothing is set in stone as to what has to happen, so anything is possible. Reading books between ROTS and ANH doesn't really appeal too much to me, because the outcome is already determined. One thing I would like to read about though is Yoda's time prior to TPM. I know he was off-limits prior to the prequels, but hopefully we get a good Yoda book in the future.

I like the New Republic Era best, frankly. There's little or none of the Force-Philosophy debates that just get annoying after a while. It's just more down to 'Earth.' I like that. No apocalyptic wars or Sith Lords.

I say between the trilogies, just because there are so many great threads to tie together. But Legacy has proven to be very interesting.

I'm interested in all the eras, but certain stories fit better in certain eras. For example, for the inter-trilogy period I want to have a book about the oppressive nature of the empire through the eyes of an everyday citizen (sort of like 1984 meets SW). For the Sith era, I would like books or comics about the sweeping, epic battles between the Jedi & Sith. PoD touched on this a little, but the battles generally took a backseat to the development of Bane. After LotF concludes, I would like to see the 100 years gap between LotF and Legacy bridged (this seems like a given).

I love LOTF & Legacy and I would also love to see a mega book series bridging the two series together and hopefully learn the fate of the big three.

I like LOTF...

Personally, I picked up Bane of the Sith, but haven't thus far been inclined to start reading it. I don't know why...I'm just not interested. I find myself not giving a crap sad

I really want to see more stuff with the TOTJ people. That's my main complaint with the KOTOR comics so far.

Hmmm...well, I think there should be no limits in a universe the size of Star Wars. After all, I think that the Republic Commando books showed that even a video game tie-in can spawn a series and a cash cow if it strikes the audience in the right way (I'm not fishing for compliments of complaints on this, but the reality is that it did spawn a series where it was intended to be a single book tie-in).

However, I think that branding is important as well and I'm sure LFL are loathe to take too many risks and will probably stay in the three eras you mentioned. Of those, the most potentially interesting is the KoToR era, and while I won't say anything bad about DH, the KoToR comic is the only one of the line that has really interested or impressed me.

I'm afraid I'm not a fan of LEGACY or the era they've built with it at all. It all seems a bit too mired in the grim and gritty style that I was tired of in comic books a decade ago. I'd love to see what DC/Wildstorm could do with the saga to be honest, or at least someone like Grant Morrison writing to bring a hint of thinking outside the box into things.

The LoTF series has been entertaining thus far, and I'm enjoying it, so fair play there, but I'm not sure how much there is to that era besides the story that's being told in it. The LoTF "saga" kind of overwhelms everything and doesn't leave room in some ways for the main cast of a lot of the supporting characters to be doing much while it's going on (based on the short time everything is going down in).

So, I'd have to say at the moment the KoToR stuff is the really interesting era to me, and I remember that DH's ToTJ comics got me back into SW briefly back in the day, although rereading them the art leaves me cold. I don't know why so many of the SW comics have such a dark colouring scheme. The KoToR comic got my attention at first just for the simple reason that it was bright and the colours were a lovely change of pace for the SW books, which too often look like artifacts of the 90's.

Del Rey seems to have dropped the ball in some ways by simply shoving the NJO out and not following up on much of anything having to do with it. Granted that Jacen's fall is set up by Traitor, but there doesn't seem to be enough thematic or character connections between the end of the NJO, DNT, and LoTF, and I think that really hurt the LoTF series because we don't get to see a lot of the important connections that must have been formed between Ben and Jacen and Mara and Jacen and so on so that the plot in LoTF would have the impact it needed.

I don't know if DR just didn't have the time or the books left in the publishing scheduale or what, but some set-up and lead-in to the LoTF series would have been nice. So as much as I like LoTF, I don't know where DR can really go with that "era" and LEGACY doesn't grab me, so unless DR jumps PAST LEGACY and does something in the far future I think the best ideas are going to be had back-filling the Old Republic and Sith Era stuff.

I'm still hoping for some Founding Era books, back during the Rakata times, Xim the Despot, the Unifications Wars, the Alsakan Crisis, and most the other major events that took place earlier than 5,000 BBY

Seeing books---any key stories---in the trilogy period is a revolting perversion. The jungle drums think it's okay to beat out unkillable cast after 25yrs. Mulder's sister would turn in her grave.

The best stories are at the extreme forward timeline, when you still hope your sacred movie names could and will die. Or the extreme past, in brand new timelines.

In other words, areas that are largely unfamilair to a global fan audience, unlikely to earn more money than seeing the 112th Leia story, and horrendously risky to the manufacyurers.

Absolutely. This would be some interesting stuff to read. Out of everything, what do I want to read the most? All of it! As long as it is good. I am enjoying Legacy of the Force very much right now and am looking forwarding to seeing where it is going. I havn't gotten KoToR 9 yet, but 8 really piqued my interest in that series. Legacy is very interesting to me so far. Rebellion seemed pretty cool, but it almost seems to be a dead series. I love some of stuff that is in "In the Shadows of their fathers". Very good "not even close to Jedi" Luke stuff. One of the most recent disappointments has been Darth Bane: PoD. I know I am in the majority, but it just wasn't that compelling to me. By no means was it HORRIBLE, but it was a pretty pedestrian effort. Legacy 4, sad to say, was also someone of a letdown after Legacy 3, but hell, what wouldn't. It still showed the amount of dissension in the Empire - between the Sith Loyalists and the Fel Loyalists as well as between the Sith Loyalists and well....the Sith. It also shows the quality of Sith that Krayt it sending out to command his armies. You do NOT execute superior officers that troops are loyal to unless a gunshot in the back will be something easy for you to deal with. Weak and Stupid lords.

Anyway, I like it all. I want more star wars from all eras. wink

You know, up till recently, I would have instantly said "inter-trilogy!" but now I'm not so sure. We haven't poked that far into it, and we've already got an Empire that basically looks and acts the same way it does at Endor. Off the top of my head, we've got Impstars and Vader's TIE cruising around or being mentioned in Dark Lord, stormtroopers in Battlefront II, and, god help us, ANOTHER game about stealing the Death Star plans.

I'm all with the fellow who mentioned 1984 above. Show us what life was like under the oppression of the Empire. Show us how the Senate lost more and more power (an Organa/Iblis/Mothma novel that also covered the foundation of the Rebellion?). But do it carefully, and without trying to rush it. There's an 18 year playground that we have between ROTS and ANH. In post-RotJ time, thats everything from Truce at Bakura to Survior's Quest. There's no need to cram the whole story into the first 3 years.

The Sith era seems like it could be the most open playground. Plenty of unknowns to delve into, with enough memorable characters floating around that could be revived and fleshed out. While some of the potency in the Sith does lie in thier mystery, it'd be neat to see more of the menace they posed in their younger "conquer the whole galaxy by force" days. Would also be fun to see some of the more "modern" worlds as they appeared under Sith rule.

And, as many will agree with me, more late-GCW. Ackbar vs Peallon (Anx Minor), a TIE Fighter based series in the model of X-Wing, Imperial or Katarn commandos... the possibilities are endless.
