Wallace is one of three or four authors whose name simply guarantees a project will be good.

What more can I say, really? He cares about continuity, turns out excellent articles and guides, produces retcons that run the gambit from necessary to fun, isn't afraid to introduce new material, and is friendly and approachable to boot.

The only thing I can't comment on is his prose (I never read Monster), but if it's as solid as the rest of his work I'm sure I'd like it.

My only complaints: the BBY/ABY dating system and parts of the NEC. The former I've discussed with him and understand the reasoning for (marketing and approachability-- Dan's not behind the system, anyway), and the latter is all Voren's fault. Which is fun in and of itself, since I never liked Voren anyway. tongue

The great thing about Dan is that he's a reference author who's not afraid to expand the universe instead of simply summarizing it. Whereas the early EGs were grand collections of existing information, Dan's EGs add new information to the universe. Even more, it's new information that simultaneously fills out the universe (OK, a war there, a Supreme Chancellor here) but adds more possibilities instead of taking them away (Wait, religious cults running galactic crusades? Cool! A Hutt Chancellor? I can't wait to write a story with him!).

Combine that with his rock-solid grasp of the EU and fantastic retcon-fu, and we have the makings of a great reference author.

Agreed. Or, as the trend would have it, "QFT."

EDIT: Actually, not enough said. He's *a good writer* who cares about continuity. *Now* it's enough said. ;-)

Dan Wallace cares more about continuity than his own ego.

Dan Wallace doesn't react with venom when people point out his (rare) errors.

Dan Wallace doesn't write stories dedicated to pointing out why he and people who agree with him are right and everyone else is wrong.

Dan Wallace doesn't criticize other authors and then lash out at his own critics.

Dan Wallace is, therefore, inherently superior to certain other authors whom I shall not name.

Retcons aren't made to fix continuity, they are made because thats the way Dan Wallace remembers it happening.

...

Sorry, wrong thread.
