Greetings, gentles! Announcing the first ever Design a Ship Contest! This idea has been in the works over on the Fleet Junkie thread, but it deserves its own thread.
Our first entry is the Mercy, a hospital ship from the Dark Forces novellas. Basically, just draw what you think the ship may look like. Entries should be easily viewable by the judges, so I suggest a gif, jpg, or bmp file. You can use whatever you want to make the ship. Hand-drawn and scanned, computer created, or sculpted and photographed, whatever, as long as it is original. It is suggested you prepare a short summary of why you designed it the way you did.
The submission date has been extended by a month to December 18, since the original due date was at a time many contestants and judges are facing research papers and finals for University.
Each entry will be judged by three officials based on the the following creativity:
1) design originality
2) in-universe believability
3) artistic quality
As an added incentive, the winner of the contest gets to choose the ship for the next round.
It is POSSIBLE that the winner's entry may be showcased on Wookieepedia (I have discussed this with a bureaucrat), but that is not a certainty at this point. It may be discussed at the next Mofference!

I'd support showcasing that.
The interesting thing about the Mercy is that the cutscene of Dark Forces II that corresponds to its appearance in Rebel Agent has it being a Nebulon-B, but in the book the way it is described makes it very different from a Nebulon.

Do anyone have an idea why there is a lot of confusions and mess regarding a hospital ship? But perhap I should not be too surprised, considering the troubles with the New Class ships.
One idea I had about this Mercy: it is one of the heavy troopships, such as Pelagia from Empire's End. My reason for the assumptation is that Pelagia is an ancient ship, such as the captain estimating it would take an half of hour to reach hyperspace. And there was a mention of how Mercy was a "museum ship", correct?
Sadly, because of my status as a judge and my lack of skills regarding designs, I can't submit this idea. But it's just an interesting idea.

whoa, fellows, I never said we would give it an article on Wikia, nor display it to illustrate Mercy in the Wikia article, I just said it could be showcased on Wikia on a special Design a Ship page. Of course it is fanon, that would be acknowledged

The Mercy Hospital Ship
I came across the contest mere hours ago, and was excited by the idea. So I set about quickly sketching a ship. What appeared first seemed satisfactory. As the vessel took shape, it seemed at home between the CEC and Rendili families, a likeness to both the classic Dreadnaught and Corellian frigates, corvettes and gunships. The vessel is by no means beautiful, varying between slender and bulbous along its length and from smooth to dotted with antenna spikes.
It is however, well formed regarding its function. At over two kilometers long, nearly six hundred meters tall and nearly the same in breadth, it is well suited to carrying thousands of wounded and hauling the necessary supplies. Numerous docking ports line the length of the hull.
The ship is effectively divided into the thirds. The bow section is devoted to sensors and communication equipment, and in addition to this, houses the crew and staff quarters. In emergencies it may house a secondary command center, or provide extra hospital space.
The central, bulbous section is both the hospital proper and the primary cargo hold. The significant volume of this third of the vessel accommodates both of these needs easily. This section well armoured, more so than the rest of the vessel. This section also serves as the main access to the vessel. On either side of the hull are emergency landing bays for immediate access to the medical facilities. On the ventral side is the primary flight deck and hangar. This bay is open on the port, starboard and aft sides allowing easy access for vessels as large as corvette size. Hung beneath the ship is the primary docking port, designed around a system of large elevators and emergency medical theatres, this hanging tower is designed for docking operations with large capital ships and freighters, or even multiple medium sized vessel, such as frigates and small cruisers.
Atop this section is the command center and observation tower, the heart of the vessel as a vessel. The hospital’s command center is deeper within the vessel.
The aft section is the engineering section, it was constructed around the engines and power plant, but all the while keeping enough space open for the medical expansion when the situation demanded so.
