For me, I've always read Pelly's first name as having a soft "G" - "Jill-ahd Pell-ay-ahn." The fact that the NEGtC has a "G" instead of a "J" suggests I've been doing it wrong, though.

Well, I've only seen that real world name in print, as Gilaad Ben Zoma (from some old ST:TNG novels), and have been pronouncing HIS name that way, too.

By the way the word caedus is based on the latin word caedes=to slaughter.
I'm a native speaker of a language that descends from the latin (portuguese) so I must be close to the right way to pronounce it...
