Right.

That's stalkerish because he knows he's getting a reaction from her.

This is an imaginary story... aren't they all supposed to fit together, though?
An animated cartoon about Obi-Wan and Padawan Anakin would have made more sense.

I wouldn't say stalker, but I defenitely felt that Anakin and Padme's relationship wasn't healthy. Very obessive on both ends....

Especially since we are speaking about a Jedi here - it makes harder to hide a reaction from him. I'm sorry but I've got a feeling that Padme acts that way just to run that so called one of those "officially compulsory" rounds every girl should complete or else she'll be called a wh*re...

This thread is very interesting but a bit sad. So many mistakes and wasted opportunities to create or maintain cool charaters! And we've almost forgotten Leia - if I'm not much mistaken there was a complete thread about her totally confused charaterization some month ago.

BTW I agree mostly with Charlemagne's first post - save the Dark Lord- there Lord Vader is cool- the end of the book, when he reveals himself to Shryne is one of the coolest Vader ever grin .

And of course I sadly agree with the Vader-Zahn problem. I'm struggling with Alliance at the moment. Unfortunately when the book arrived I opened it at a random page just to take a look. I happened to find Lord Vader chase Mara with a lightsaber, but the smart Emperor Hand is cooly escapes him of course. I know I've seen this scene in my nightmares about terrible characterization...

Yeah, I agree with you, and I de-railed a thread arguing about that very passage...

If not for her acceptance of the situations an the restraints of being able to do what he wanted to do on a day to day basis it WOULD have become a stalking type thing. She's probably a little on the unhealthy co-dependence side of the line but Anakin is an outright lunatic.

I might be a little less harsh on stalking than other people...my wife once creepily told me she found stalking to be romantic.

So in the trial against Anakin Skywalker for the crime of stalking, the evidence is as follows: he dreamed about her, and...he gave her an inappropriate look.

Man, the standards for stalkers have really declined. Hinckley must be spinning in his prison cell.

There's a difference between ardent courting and stalking. Quite bluntly, the only difference is that the stalker either doesn't make his intentions known or has been bluntly told they're unwelcome.

Anakin is told this and continues to flirt which she becomes positive to.

Just to have some fun with this and let me make crap up, and only going by the movie...you may be able to say that if you read between the lines Anakin pulls information from her head and finds out Padme is thinking "Oh man, if he gives me that look again I'm going to have to jump him right here right now."

Yeah, if every guy who got turned away gave up right then, there'd be fewer couples in the world. Anakin can tell she really likes him, which is why he continues. He realizes that she's made herself emotionally unavailable and is trying to protect herself.

We should rename this thread: "Characters and couples that certain fans don't get" grin

Well, back on topic!

Some pages ago dp4m declared that Zahn's ruining Mara's character. I did not like the non-darksider retcon but I decided that it's just Mara trying to explain her guilty conscience. But after reading Allegiance I'm absolutely worried for the character. With this book he created an official textbook example of Mary Sue - and it was achieved by the Creator Himself. Really a sad story sad .

I assume, SHOCKINGLY, Anakin might actually have some understanding of playing hard to get.
