That is Vader after his showdown with the Secret Apprentice and the Rebel Alliance onboard the Death Star.
EDIT:
Apparently the iron-lung is powered by Energizer, Vader takes a Rancor-sized tail whipping and keeps going and going...

the power of the Force." --This line will have a whole new meaning after the game comes out.

Yeah, if Vader's still standing tall after getting that roughed up in-game/in-story, it'll be awesome. But I've already said that, anyway. 
While I do think the SA will get redeemed, I don't think he'll get redeemed all the way to "Jedi" status in the "canon" ending of the game. Hs survival is of course still up in the air, though rumors of sequel-planning seem to indicate that it's possible....then again, maybe he knocks up Juno before he dies, and the sequel can take place during the NJO! *cough*

Yeah...that ranks up there with Anakin suddenly having an apprentice in the upcoming Clone Wars show.

Because, presumably, he gets rescued. Let us not forget that what was killing Anakin by the time he gets his mask removed was the fact that Palpatine's lightning fried all his electronics - I mean, listen to his breathing after he tosses Palpy down the shaft. Even then, he's able to survive for a little while without his mask on, and Vader sits in his hyperbaric chamber without his helmet on all the time. Losing the helmet =/= instant death.

Is...that the plot? Does it say anywhere that Vader didn't do anything, that the SA did everything, not just the few Jedi and a little bit of dirty work we know for sure he faces in this game, while Vader did nothing back on Coruscant - besides all the Jedi we already know he's killed personally?
...or is that just a presumption of fans hungry to hate something new?

He doesn't die instantly, yeah ... but he's certainly not going to be striking a battle pose when his mask is utterly blown away. He can't breathe for himself without exerting massive Force power; as Luke says when Vader tells him to remove it, "you'll die".
And his meditation chambers are specifically designed so that he can exist without his breathing apparatus inside them; he can't go helmetless on the outside.

Well, not for extended periods of time, anyway. How many toys do you think they'd sell if the packaging showed Vader struggling? We don't know what happens in the story yet.

And Luke's right, especially because of the damage done to the rest of Vader's systems. Vader, without his mask, will eventually die. However, I reiterate, we have no idea what actually happens in the story to cause Vader to look this messed up, and we don't know what happens after he gets this messed up, so let's not make too many assumptions.

He can't go helmetless on the outside, now, but you'll remember that he's helmetless for a little while as the chamber's opening. It's not as if his is a pressure suit, where his head will explode from rapid depressurization. The helmet keeps him alive, yes, but he will not die immediately if it's messed up, especially if the rest of his suit is functioning okay. We can't assume, yet, that Vader walks around like this for a while, calmly, completely unfazed, seeing no real urgency in getting his suit fixed.
