I really hope that doesn't just mean what I assume it means as that couldn't be a worse joke if it tried. tongue

ok so im just reading the han solo trilogy.. and we've all been speculating why they may keep the apprentice's name secret... maybe he's hans older brother? or uncle... after all thrackan sal solo tells him that his uncle and grandfather disappeared... maybe the uncle (hans dad) had a child in his early teens and then han later on life?

therefore the codename may be SOLO ?
i can hope tongue dancing

here is my theory from before, i still think that it makes some sense happy
grandad solo may have had another son with another wife... the SA may be han's uncle.. or maybe han's dad had a child early in his teens and the secret apprentice is han's brother? or maybe grandad solo had another son with another wife and then he had a son? and this is the SA (and therefore han's cousin?)

The Secret Apprentice's father is a Jedi Knight named Kento. We know that already. If Han's daddy or even uncle was a Jedi, I'm sure we'd have heard about it by now.

He ain't a Solo.[/quote]
possibly not.. in the han solo trilogy han knows NOTHING about his family..

Having the Secret Apprentice be related to Han would be goofy enough to fit right in with the rest of the EU so it honestly wouldn't surprise me... scare the heck out me, yes; surprise me, no.

Keep grasping at those straws. There's also the sublime idiocy of having a "code name" that's your actual name. Kind of defeats the purpose of a code name in the first place.

He ain't a Solo. That'd be the kind of ridiculous plot twist that turn people away from the EU forever.

Making the SA a relative of Solo would rank right up there with Ikrit in my book.

I hope the SA's code name is "Sorrow" and that he eventually transforms into the famous mountain on the forest moon of Endor.

I think his code name is Starkiller. Lucas originally wanted Luke to be Luke Starkiller. Maybe now with the SA he can finally use the Starkiller name.

Of course, Starkiller has already been used like 6 times in the EU, but I doubt GL is aware of any of those.

Without breaking any of the TOS or rules of the site, and keeping things civil, can someone explain to me what Hayden Blackman did to tick off a section of SW nerds (of course, just writing for SW is enough to tick of any given subset), because I've seen some aggro directed at him that I just don't get (not so much at this site, but others). He wrote the utterly sublime OPEN SEASONS comic, and he seems like a decent enough guy. I know he was connected with SW Galaxies for a time, is that where the aggro is coming from?

Also, I've seen comments along the line that he's to blame for the game's delay...uhhh, right now LA has quite a few games that are in the twilight zone, including the long hyped FRACTURE (which they've recently retooled and changed protags on to make the main character "cooler"). I seriously doubt that Hayden is the sole reason the game and media blitz surrounding it has been pushed back. It's not like he's going to do a Homer in the Scorpio episode and give the workers donuts...with the possibility of MORE DONUTS, if they get the game out early.

And I think we can all agree that I'd rather have TFU late than broken.

I'd say Mr. Blackman's probably the last reason the game was delayed. His portion (the writing) was likely done well before the game went into full programming. Sure, minor "tweaks" might have been needed here and there, but since the novel and RPG sourcebook and comic have all long since been completed and are simply waiting to be released, the changes can't be that major.

As I recall, the stated reason for the delay was the difficulty in porting it to the PS3. That, and the unstated reason is likely debugging that fancy-schmancy new AI and Physics engine they've been touting since the earliest press releases of the game.

Though I don't have any actual *vitriol* for Mr. Blackman, I personally felt his contributions to the New Essential Guide line were lackluster at best. Maybe Dan Wallace has simply set the bar too high, but when comparing the level of detail and continuity tapestry-weaving between, say, The New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels and The New Essential Guide to Droids, there's no question that the latter is by far the more interesting and informative read.

I'm neutral on Blackman. I liked Open Seasons, and I don't mind his other work. But I think some of the antipathy, at least with respect to TFU, comes from the attitude we get from him in his promotion of the game. For example:

"This game is about KICKING ASS with the Force."

I think that while such things might attract the more casual fan, the people here in Lit are looking for something a bit more... nuanced. To us it just seems overhyped and silly. And when we see people tossing around "low brow" marketing crap like that, it gets annoying. At least, that's my impression.

Errr.. I didn't know you were actually bothered by that, I thought it was a simple joke on Blackman confused

heh like he is the first one to over hype a product he is working on

The marketing was never going to be directed at "us" though. We should be able to understand that. It's not nearly going to be as effective if the marketing becomes, "This game is about KICKING ASS with the Force in a completely C-Canon consistent and meticulously researched manner!"
