Yes, that would mean creating a new ending where Vader pwned Starkiller. But the game should have had such an ending in the first place. tongue

No offense, I felt cheated the Emperor killed Starkiller.

I'd have hated to have lost to vader too.

I'd have preferred to lead the SA all the way to Vader, confront him, and have control switch back to Vader. tongue

I'll point out that, in the mobile phone version of the game, Vader does defeat Starkiller. (Well, I heard that secondhand, but I hope it's true) tongue

Still, enormously cheap. I was hoping that they'd end with a Splinter of the Mind's Eye ending where Starkiller "defeats" Darth Vader as the Final Boss by knocking him down a pit but then decides to run away with Juno Eclipse because he can't beat Vader.

I think the best bit of Vader in the EU is not that he never loses, but is impossible to kill in a conventional sense, ungodly tough and deadly to most, and ALWAYS finds a way to win/survive.

When I think of the "Secret Apprentice" defeating Vader, I imagine this little exchange.

SA: Now stand aside, worthy adversary.

Vader: Tis but a scratch.

SA: A scratch? Your arm's off!

Vader: No, it isn't.

SA: Well, what's that, then?

Vader: I've had worse.

SA: You liar!

Vader: Come on, you pansy!

That'd actually have been awesome... Vader still managing to hold his own against Starkiller with one arm. Sure, the fight may still have had Vader ultimately lose, but it'd have been cool to see him able to give as good as he got one handed.

From SWBlog's coverage of tonight's "Star Wars Spectacular":
The big news dropped on the Comic-Con audience by LucasArts came in the form of The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition. This Fall LucasArts will release a new downloadable level for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It re-imagines the Star Wars Saga as if the Secret Apprentice had taken Darth Vader’s place at the Emperor’s side after the events of the original game and is going to let you explore the deepest, darkest side of the Force. The game expands the original The Force Unleashed levels with new levels set on Coruscant and Tatooine, and an all-new level set on Hoth.

It’s a what-if scenario, “the secret apprentice is sent to Hoth with a mission to crush the Rebellion once and for all, and along the way he’s going to come up against Luke Skywalker!” described Shell. The Ultimate Sith Edition will be available on Mac and PC too.

More than just words, the presentation showcased a debut video trailer for The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition that can be found here.

Lemme repeat that.

"[A]nd an all-new level set on Hoth."

They just couldn't stay away, could they? tongue

Aww, you already said it. I was just about to go: BATTLE OF HOTH!!! YAY!!! tongue

Hoth aside, it sounds pretty fun. And at least it's the actual Rebel base on Hoth, so makes sense in an "alternate reality Battle of Hoth" kind of way. The fact "Darth Starkiller" (I wonder if he'll get a Darth name now he's a Sith Lord? thinking ) will go and take out the entire Rebel base on his own makes you wonder why Vader didn't do it that way though. tongue

Curse that silly Admiral Ozzel. shame_on_you

EDIT: The official press release on the LucasArts site goes into a bit more detail about it, and how it won't actually all be available as DLC:

LucasArts.com posted:
New "Infinities" Storyline Takes Star Wars® Saga in Unimagined New Directions

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — July 24, 2009 — LucasArts today announced that their hit videogame Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will see further expansion this Fall through a new downloadable level for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. In addition, the company also announced Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition, a special new version of the game for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, that will show gamers the deepest, darkest side of the Force in a story that puts them on a collision course with Luke Skywalker himself. Available this holiday season at retail stores, The Ultimate Sith Edition will include all of the original missions found in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as well as content previously only available via download and an all-new exclusive bonus level*.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force and casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice," unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy seen through the eyes of a mysterious new character armed with unprecedented powers. Originally released in September 2008, the game quickly became the fastest-selling Star Wars game ever, and has since sold six million units worldwide.

About the Tatooine Downloadable Content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Available this Fall via direct download from the Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network and the PlayStation®Network, this new downloadable mission continues the story of The Force Unleashed in a new "Infinities" storyline that takes the Star Wars Saga in an entirely new and unexpected direction.

The mission begins at the end of the story of The Force Unleashed and re-imagines the Star Wars Saga as if the Secret Apprentice had killed Darth Vader and taken his place at the Emperor's side, becoming the most powerful Sith Lord in the universe. The story picks up as the Emperor sends his new apprentice to the planet Tatooine to dispatch Obi-Wan Kenobi -- who has been hiding on the planet ever since the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. During their hunt for the reclusive Jedi, players will also explore the depths of Jabba the Hutt's palace and encounter notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett.

About Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition
Due to be released in retail stores this holiday season for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition combines the original Star Wars: The Force Unleashed videogame and three new levels to create the definitive ultimate-evil storyline of the events that occurred between the two classic Star Wars movie trilogies*.

The additional content includes two levels set on Coruscant and Tatooine previously only available via direct download, and an all-new exclusive level available only in the Ultimate Sith Edition package.

The exclusive level concludes the "Infinities" storyline set up in the Tatooine mission, as the Secret Apprentice is sent to the planet Hoth on a crusade to crush the Rebellion once and for all. While on Hoth, players face Luke Skywalker himself while visiting iconic locations seen in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

So, my reading of that is that the Tatooine mission to kill Obi-Wan will be downloadable, but that if you want to play the "all-new exclusive level", you'll need to buy the actual full USE version of the game again.

I was wondering the same thing as I watched the trailer. tongue

Oh well, this project actually does sound cool. And it's also one of the few good uses of Infinities since that ROTJ comic: i.e. an actual alternate reality plot rather than just a continuity wastebin for projects that couldn't be bothered to check the Holocron first.

Um ... how is that supposed to work since the Empire didn't know Ben was on Tatooine to begin with?

I assume with Obi-Wan it's just the "Infinities excuse" for how they knew. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Luke though... as obviously he's on Tatooine too. thinking

Hmm... about the Coruscant level: is that just the existing Coruscant DLC level, or a new one? The press release seems to contradict itself as initially it says TFU:USE will include all the existing DLC plus a new bonus level, but then later on it talks about Coruscant as a new DLC.. so I'm a little confused if "Coruscant" is just code for "Jedi Temple" (particularly because they go into detail about the new Tatooine level, but not the new Coruscant level).

However if it is new... maybe they're keeping quiet about how after killing Obi-Wan and the Rebels you decide to go take down the Palpatine and become the new Emperor. mischief

I'm almost certain to buy this anyway, but given the current economic climate and the fact I'm sure lots of people will be thinking "Why spend money on a Director's Cut?" a few things it'd be nice had they included:

  • All the content from the other platforms. So, adding the one-eyed Gungan bounty hunter from the Wii version, etc. Could have nicely upgraded the existing levels that way.

  • New voice acting? This may or may not be included... but the trailer only seemed to be taken from quotes we already have from Palpatine. I hope unlike the Jedi Temple level it isn't just rehashed dialogue with no cinematics.

  • Do what MGS3:S did and add a Multiplayer Mode. The biggest complaint the gamers I know had with TFU from day one was that they were fed up with the lack of decent Star Wars multiplayer games. After all the rumours and wild speculation of a DLC version of the Wii duel mode, it'd be nice for them to have announced that they were finally going to give Xbox Live gamers the same.
