It's mentioned in the first few pages R.A. Salvatore's Vector Prime, and we know that Nom Anor (before being revealed to be recon for the whole of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion)was the one to have infected Mara, but when did this happen? In Timothy Zahn's Vision of the Future, or in Survivor's Quest?

I'm really stumped and any explanation would be awesome!

It does seem odd how someone as non trusting as Mara would end up getting infected by an apparently non-airborne disease. I cannot see her accepting a social drink or anything from someone as bizarre seeming as Anor.

What place? She was mentioned to have the disease before she landed on planet with Jaina and Leia...

I can't remember the circumstances but...just as I was saying. If Mara goes on a diplomatic meeting somewhere that she can't breath the air, you can be darn sure she's bringing her own breathing apparatus. If she gets there and some lunatic is like "You can't breathe the air here...put this on...." She's gonna start thinking somethings off.....

Still lost... How did Nom Anor infect her? And hey, if this doesn't get solved, fine... My real issue would be the fine folks at Del Rey having the wife of Luke Skywalker being infected with a serious illness be a throw away plot point.

Or, hey-- was this SUPPOSED to be one of those things, a throw away thing that is later to be revealed a major thing?

So silly, this is.

I just want to know! Maybe Sue Rostini will visit us here? Clear it up?

She was acting as a bodyguard for a reception on Monor II, where the atmosphere is unsuitable for most species. There were a large number of people, and 300 of the breath masks were contaminated. The rest of the people all died.

I agree about Mara's generally over-cautious attitude, but I figure that the fact she couldn't feel the disease (and therefore the danger) through the Force probably made her falsely confident it was safe.

Interesting observation - especially because she's there on bodyguard duties for a New Republic diplomat who's been receiving assassination threats.

But I've suspected for a while that Mara got to know Nom Anor slightly better there than she ever let on afterwards... mischief whistling tongue mischief

The reason Mara and others wore the breath masks is because the air on Monor II is full of microcrystals (or something) that makes breathing imppossible without masks/filters or without being in some sort of protected structure.

Like most plotlines in the NJO, this particular one was not really well thought out before being dumped into the story.

I too was confused about this when I was reading VP. I was like "Mara's sick? When did that happen?"

Then I was even more annoyed when it wasn't elaborated on.

I think it would be really cool if there was a short story or maybe a comic miniseries that covered these events, but I doubt it will ever happen.
