Know that the Darth Plagieus novel by Luceno is cancelled and Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor is pushed back to October 2008 and The Force Unleashed novel is pushed back to early 2008. I just heard that there will be a SW hardcover out in Feburary 2009.

What will the February 2009 hardcover be about?

Will it be a Luke,Mara and Ben novel by Timothy Zahn?

Another Luke Skywalker novel like the upcoming Shadows of Mindor?

A Ben Skywalker only novel?

A Bridge novel between LOTF and a possible upcoming post-LOTF series?

An intertrilogy novel?

A novel set in the Sith era?

A Jacen Solo Force Trip novel set between NJO & Dark Nest.

I hope the details of the February 2009 novel will be announced at Celebration IV.

It definately won't be anything past LotF, as it won't have concluded by that stage. Same with a Ben novel, he won't be able to carry a novel (especially a hardcover) on his own at least unitl his LotF story is finished.

Depending on where they take Jacen in the rest of LotF a Jacen 5 year journey story might work, although I'd prefere that to wait until after LotF.

Something set either during the New Republic Era (Ackbar/Wedge vs. Pellaeon) or the NJO period would be my biggest hope, but I can't see them using a hardcover on such an event at this point in time.

The Sidious book is cancelled? For a movie cast book to see General Skywalker's invulnerability to danger and death? confused

QFT.

Especially since I already started that story... tongue
Look for all three installments and rest assured that I always intended to continue this someday (when special effects have finally caught up with my style of writing)!

No, actually the Sidious book is cancelled because someone felt it didn't work. Maybe even Lucas, as he told Stover not to tell anyone about the details of Palpatine's backstory when he was writing Episode 3.
The Star Wars novel of the decade™ is a different slot. If you'd like to take the Plagueis replacement as "the reason the novel was cancelled", start hitting the unknown Feb 09 HC.

It might be a Zahn novel, but Luceno is another strong candidate (as they are keeping him "around").

I don't think it will be a Luke or Ben novel. They'll have done a Luke novel shortly before, and Ben won't be big/old enough even after LOTF to sell his own hardcover novel.

Bridge novel... also not too likely, I'd guess they'd do that with paperbacks and use the HC for a novel a bigger audience would read.

Intertrilogy could be. The TV series will be around by that time, CW Phase 2 having started and the live-action series around the corner. If Coruscant Nights has been released by then, they'll also have a precedence (along with TFU).

Sith Era would rule, but I wonder if they'd really do that considering how they keep ignoring the timeframe. I guess they'd make one of those other Darth novels they asked about.

Jacen Solo... no. Only if the Darth Who campaign was a tremendous success. Otherwise, it's almost the same as with Ben. I don't think he'd get a solo novel.

I think we can rule out a novel tie-in to Legacy, which would include backstory on Ossus or Kol Skywalker.

Maybe they'd do a Vader novel before/after Ep4? This would fit nicely with Luke's post-ep6 novel and give them yet another shot at showing a book-selling Sith Lord on the cover. No, not the evil bookstore clerk, I mean Vader tongue

Jacen had learned that one can meet the Universe [...] with fear, or with hatred, or with despair.
Or one can choose to meet it with love.
Jacen had chosen.
But still, he was astonished to discover that the Universe could love him back.

Until an explanation is chosen to be made public, there's nothing to go on. Hmmm, Star Wars acolytes demand too much . . .

Litterfolk can read Elantris instead. Or find a Luke game to play again.

Whatever it is, I hope it's written by Luceno. I wouldn't mind Zahn but he did just get a hardcover.

I think that Luke is out because he'll just have had Shadows of Mindor. I also doubt they'll do anything on Ben or Jacen (or other players in LOTF) because it won't have concluded. Their big character beat with Jacen is currently his fall to the dark side, so I don't imagine they'd be going back and exploring his time during the five year journey until after it's completed. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they did it later. Likewise Ben's journey would be too uncompleted.

Which makes me think an NJO-LOTF filler is unlikely too.

Intertrilogy could be interesting as it's still relatively untapped. Though I don't think we need yet another Vader story. We have Rise of Vader and the upcoming Force: Unleashed books. His personal story, apprentices, beliefs, actions...becoming a little cluttered. I guess I fear for his character diverting even further from my childhood image. I also guess I just feel it's not necessary. He can appear in intertrilogy books as the villain, but I'm not so interested in seeing him as a sole protagonist.

But an early Rebellion book could be sweet...

I'd also be totally up for replacing the (much mourned) Darth Plagueis book with another Darth book. Darth Bane sold pretty well and that's an era that's not been used all that much... Perhaps it could tell us more about the Sith and the Jedi - like why the Jedi kept flip-flopping between Marriage & Kids, Yay! and Marriage and Kids, Evil!

NJO is possible, but perhaps unlikely given how dense that series is already?

Hmm...speculation is fun. happy

After DR burned their fingers with Darth Plagueis, I think they will go for some very safe subject that has no danger of getting cancelled by George Lucas when he hears about it - which to me seem to be the likeliest explanation of what happened to Darth Plagueis novel. I´m pretty sure that the Clone Wars and Dark Times periods are out of the question because of the animated and live TV series which will appear one day. Too much danger that there could be some conflict with them.

I would not mind if we would get a post-LotF book though. The new novel will come out something like year after the manuscript of the last book in LotF #9 has been delivered to DR and they probably know at this point at DR&LFL how the story will end and who will survive. At least they should. Another favourite of mine would be an Old Republic book far in the timeline. Whether it would be about Jedi or Sith.

Chances of a novel about Jacen and his 5 year journey are pretty low. He could not steal the stage in NJO from the old heroes and was made a villain because of this, and now in LotF, where he is supposedly the main character and main villain, he is just one - and not very prominent - member of a huge cast of characters. Probably book about him would be another Dark Lord...

Well, if Dark Times and the Clone Wars are no-no's, and Luke's covered, and the LotF won't have finished, so Jacen and Ben are covered...

It'll probably be a Legacy novel. Possibly the Sith-Imperial War?

Or...

A late Galactic Civil War novel. Possibly during Pellaeon's days.

Or...

A Darth/KotoR novel. Andeddu, anyone?

They're the 'safe' era's, so to speak.

Anyone would be good, I guess. Though not filled with as much information as a Plagueis one, assumedly.

I don't understand why people keep saying that LOTF won't be done yet. We're talking about February 2009. LOTF is finishing in 2008. The hell?

I presume it's because the paperback of number 9 won't be out yet; while us hardcore fans will have read it, there'll be a lot more casual fans which won't have so they might not want to "spoil" the ending.

Though since this is also a hardcover...maybe I'm just on crack or something. happy

Just reading through this thread now, that was my same thought... confused

Anyway, regardless of the subject matter, i'm betting on a Zahn novel. Perhaps an Allegiance follow-up featuring the Hand of Judgement?

Legacy of the Force #9 hardcover comes out in June 2008. This is a February 2009 book. It could be post LOTF.
Legacy of the Force #9, mass market paperback reprint comes out in April 2009.
