My understanding is that it's a knock-down drag-out fight where Mara gets the upper hand, Jacen distracts her at the last second with a Force Projection of Ben and uses the distraction to dart her.

Yes. Both had completely exhausted themselves. Mara had won but was horribly wounded. There's actually a moment where Jacen fears she'll overcome the poison because she is fighting it, but she's also suffering from serious injuries besides that.

Maybe someone else can list all the other various injuries, but I'm pretty sure one was being run through with a lightsaber.

It's not a punk death at all, but the culmination of a nasty and brutal brawl.

OK, even though I didn't care for her, I'm bummed. Luke will never find another woman like that. Ben will never forgive himself.

And she should have been cut in half, or something. She should have died like a warrior, not Doc Holiday.

Let me add an example:

Stop using real life examples that have nothing to do with fights to the death. The only one that might even hint towards fantasy is the death of Achilles and Achilles wasn't even aware of Paris.

So what? Jacen used a force projection against her. She was distracted and he used a dart to kill her. Was she run through with a saber? No. Did Jacen beat her in the battle? No.

She went down from a poison dart. A fast acting one that seems to much for her. Luke himself almost died from Shimmra's poison staff.

Last I checked, Shimrra's amphistaff didn't even have a cure among the Vong. And is a bit different than a, y'know, poison dart.

You're telling me the poison works in .2 seconds with absolutely no time? she has enough time for last words, after all. A poisoned Luke was still able to slice Shimrra's head off.

Mara isn't Luke. She doesn't have anywhere near the power and ability that he has. As Lucas said, Luke is what Anakin would have been fully realized so thats most powerful force user ever.

No. Mara did manage to keep one of the deadliest poisons created from killing her, though.

As others have pointed out, though, it does make sense now.

It sounds like a satisfying enough end to me. It's not a clean-cut match of skills where in the end the 'better' fighter wins because they 'should'. But it's not determined by freak incident either. Jacen and Mara brought different skills to the table: sounds like she won the saber fight, but Jacen had more tricks in his bag and used that to his advantage.

A poison dart is the weapon of an assassin, right?

So, the former Emperor's Hand going down from a poison dart is kind of poetic, isn't it?

I like that very much. grin devil

isn't it funny how you like someone a whole lot more when they die or when you know they will die. I wanted it to be mara but now i fell for her. Also its a trgaic way to go as well, im imagining her like mace windu, on the eve of victory oly to be blindsided by a vision. A tragic end indeed and with no real victory for mara as far as we know! Ohh i love it but it makes me want to cry as well! How far Jacen has fallen.

watching prison break the other night they said the elec chair makes you incontinent. So does that mean that mace windu pooped himself right before he went out the window? Or did Luke make a stain on
the death star? maybe DV died of embarasment?

Bah, humbug. Not that I'm surprised. frustrated

Is it finally open knowledge now (at least to the other main characters) of Jacen's Sithiness?

Does Traviss run rampant with her Mandos? Will this book even make sense to someone who hasn't read her other books?

Are Jag and Zekk ever mentioned/seen? By extension, does Jaina get any decent page time?

Do Big Three & family know of what happened, or will that be left to Inferno?

I'll stop now, since I'm reading the spoilers over at "the other site", too. tongue

I think that's part of the point too. Jacen didn't kill someone in an evenly matched one on one where he was fighting for his life. He was beaten and being taken in when he tries a last ditch trick and murders the sacrifice.

It raises it from self-defense to an outright killing, which leaves no wiggle room for "maybe he isn't so bad". He may not be openly Sith, but he's embraced that part of himself now and crossed the divide.

So, question on Lumiya:

How is she killed? No ambiguity this time?
