The latest book in the Legacy of the Force series, brought to you with spoilers allowed. The halfway point of the series and Karen Traviss's second contribution to the series, it's been anticipated as the book where Jacen makes his sacrifice and takes his Sith name.

Some rules: rate Sacrifice on a scale of 1 to 10, supplementing your rating with a review, if you want to (It's not necessary but is highly encouraged). However, please do not rate or review the book until after you've read the whole thing. Thanks. happy

Finished it a few days ago and I must say that I absolutely loved this book. Even though Mara's death was foreseen fairly early in the book it was still a shock when it actually happened. Dont get me wrong, Im not a fan of hers, but I was saddened when she died, if only for Luke and Ben. And Traviss did do a very good job with her in what would be her final appearance in an SW novel, making her sympathetic and humanizing her (in my eyes, at least).

Speaking of which, the same can be said of Fett after this book, although Im still not exactly sure how I feel about that just yet. Personally I felt that there was a bit too much of a Mando love fest from the author in this book; I found those scenes more of a distractant from the real action more than really be interested in what was actually going on with Fett's fractured family on Mandalore.

With that said, though, I loved the book, and I love how Sacrifice changes the rules of the GFFA yet again, but most specifically for the Skywalker / Solo clan. In many ways, this book reminded me of SbS, and is arguably the darker of the two novels, although its debatable which book is the more important in referrence to the EU as a whole (time will tell as far as that goes).

9 / 10

Bought and finished it today.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fantastic stuff all in all.

The only thing I really didn't like was the cropping up of words such as "twerp", "prat" and "jerk", since they don't sound at all "Star Wars" and would pull me out of the universe each time.

8/10

i loved this book. while there were a few things i'd have done differently, such as a little more Han/Leia and little less Mandos, the overall storyline was great, and very well written. IMO Jacen is finally becoming a worthy villan both personally and politcally; the Jedi all acted in character, from Kyle's joke about Fett to Luke dominating Lumiya; Ben got some good development; and Mara got a great final starring role.

overall, a great book that makes me look forward to Inferno and the rest of the LOTF series.

10/10

The only one that bugged me was "nutter."

Anyway, I finished this book yesterday, and wow. I was firmly in the Kill Luke camp, and though I still think that might have been the better way to go, I feel I can get behind the Kill Mara decision. I wanted Luke out of the way so that the younger generation could take the stage, and I get the feeling that the death of Mara and Luke's somewhat unjustified (in Jedi terms) cold-blooded killing of Lumiya may cause Luke to take a backseat from now on, or at least once the present stuation has ended. Jaina has finally decided to stop kriffing around with her two boytoys and get down to the business of being the Sword of the Jedi. Ben knows Jacen's becoming a Sith - let's hope he tells Luke about it real freakin quick. Thank the Force he's finally out of his Jacen-worshipping stage.

I was disappointed that Lumiya died, though I'm glad we finally got some real confirmation that she was doing all of this for Jacen and the Sith cause, rather than out of hatred and revenge against Luke. Makes her such an interesting character, and one of my favorite Sith Lords (alongside Bane and Krayt). Mostly I'm disappointed that we almost certainly won't be getting a Lumiya cover.

I was impressed by the way Jacen and Niathal took over the Alliance, though I wish the seeds of it (Jacen's initial amendment) had been planted in an earlier book. As it is, it seemed to come up a bit too fast.

I like the Boba/Mirta/Mandalore stuff. I like that the devastated Mandalorian society is making a small comeback. And I love the new fighter. Bes'uliik = wonderful.

I'm liking Darth Caedus. I'd say he has the makings of a pretty good Sith, though unfortunately he probably only has four more books to prove it. I'm really hoping that after LOTF, we get another nine-book series about Jacen's Alliance versus the Jedi, Mandos, Imperial Remnant, and Confederate Remnant.

I'm not good at grading, but I'll go with my gut and say... 8.5/10. Yeah, that sounds about right.

This book was excellent when it comes to characterization and brought us the best Luke we've seen in a long time, with TUF the only thing coming close. Her Mara was likewise characterized extremely well.

I didn't mind the Mandos, although sometimes I found myself impatient for the juicier parts of the Skywalker storyline, but towards the end it really paid off. Had it been me, I don't think I would have brought back Boba's wife, but there could be a reason farther down the line, so...meh. I can live with it.

I love the way Karen takes inside Jacen's psychosis and shows us how demented he really is, like when he's trying to explain to a dying Mara that she should be proud.

A solid 9/10.

Im hoping that we get another series featuring Caedus v. The Galaxy, too. Ive got the feeling that this initial 9-book series is a test run to see how the fans react to further books in this vein down the line (one can hope, anyway).

I am very pleased. I was afraid that Karen Traviss was going to let us down, and that it would hurt the series as a whole. Let me say I was wrong. The book was very well written. There wasn't much I did not like about the book. In fact the only thing I felt was wrong was the lack of Leia/Han.

From beginning to end this novel kept me into it. Seeing Jacen finally make his full turn to Sith was well done. The death scene of Mara, while not as well done as either Chewie, or Anakin IMO, was still well written. But what I like most is how Ben is finally starting to see how Jacen really is, even though he is blaming it on Lumiya. I wonder what is going to happen when Ben figures out it was Jacen who killed his Mom.

Let's see how Inferno is handled, but this book gives me a lot of hope for the rest of the series.

My rating, 9 out of 10.

I thought the other books in the series had too much Han and Leia, so I found their absence here to be a refreshing change of pace.

You'll get your Han and Leia in the next book to be sure; Denning LOVES writing them tongue

I of course loved it, especially the Mando'ade and the scenes on Manda'yaim. I actually enjoyed galactic economics lessons and how it ties in with politics for once tongue

I want a Bes'uliik!

I'm gonna give it 9.5/10 I think.

I was so let down with this book. I have loved all the books leading up to it in this series, but, to me, it just didnt do it for me. I felt like there were long streches of prose that had little to do with the story line. I was also so mad at how the deaths were handled.

6/10
