First off, let me apologize for being so late to the KotOR craze. While I've thorougly enjoyed the comics, I've only recently started playing the game. Unfortunately, my wife & I are now hooked on KotOR I I'm sure we'll be just as consumed by KotOR II
So as I understand it, the comics take place about 7 years prior to the events. Got that. Mandalorian Wars, check. Shadowy guy that could be Revan, check. HK series assassin droid, awesome! Vong sighting four thousand years prior to NJO books? WT
Anyways, I figured we could have a central thread to talk about all this KotOR stuff

Fair warning - a LOT of people find KotOR II very disappointing. It was rushed out and it shows.
The first game and the comic, though? *bliss*
I might actually be in love with Zayne Carrick. The boy is beautiful, hopeful and heroic. I have great respect for JJM for managing to write him, well, a little like Anakin Solo I suppose. He doesn't fall over into being too perfect - too remotely heroic - or gratuitously "angsty". He's just great. All hail Zayne!
And thanks for the chance to gush!

I too express amusement at thread title and offer Kudos!
And despite the obvious flaws of KOTOR II, there are people who prefer it to the original...so don't be to glum when starting it.

True. But Kreia's one of the most fleshed out VG characters ever. And one of the best, too IMHO.
Spoilers for KotOR II
Plus, you can whack Master Vrook. What's not to like?

Aye! Zayne's the best thing that happened to SW in a loooong time.

Don't forget there's also the Tales of the Jedi comics put out by Dark Horse about a decade+ ago. They're set 30 or 40 years before the current comic (i think; too lazy to check The Wook at the moment).
On KotOR II, i found that while some of the gameplay aspects (from a technical standpoint) were cleaned up/refined, the story was better in KotOR. Though i try not to judge KotOR II too harshly, as the developers were placed in an impossible position to get the game out "on time".
I'll also chime in that i'm loving the comic series. I wasn't too keen on it at first, and dropped the title after the first arc. But after keeping up with some of the discussions on the series here, i went back and am so glad i did. The first arc was a little hit-or-miss (and it works MUCH better as a single read-through, as opposed to reading the arc month-to-month), but the series has really come into its own at this point.
I'll also throw out there that i'm inthe Zayne=Zayne camp. I don't think it'll turn out that he's Nihilus or Sion or Revan or anyone else. Just Zayne.
Finally, i can't beleive that, until i saw the thread title, i never made the Zayne-Carth/Wayne-Garth connection! Merkurian, you are hereby awarded 42 Sith FunBucks!

I hereby pass on the award for 2nd Best Thread Title Ever to this thread. "Who Da Mon? Ackbar Da Mon..Calamari!" will now sit in the bronze chair.
However, I'm still quite fond of "The Quindex: The Quinlan Vos Chronology/Discussion (Warning: Does NOT Clean Glass Surfaces)" which I've arbitrarily assigned 1st.

I think people wouldnt judge Knights II so harshly if it wasn't so frelling obvious that they missed putting in a ton of stuff. If they could have cleaned it up a little, no body would have been much the wiser. Its still a decent game, but much like our beloved movies, nothing beats the origional...

Pfft! This is the greatest Thread title ever. Kudos to Merk.
Though... isn't it 'party on Garth, party on Wayne'?

The revelation of the first KOTOR was what sealed the deal for me. And while the ending of KOTOR 2 was rushed for the Christmas season, the story still felt deeper and jucier. The Peragus mining facility was a little too boring for me, but all in all I still played it to death and then some.

I will join the chorus in naming this simply the funniest thread title I have ever read on this boards (though the Ackbar one T2Q notes, which I had never read is also deliciously stupidly funny)!
I'm definitely diggin' the whole KOTOR mileu. I had watched my friend play the 1st two scenes of the game (KOTOR I) a couple years ago, but he actually didn't like it much (not his type of game). I'm thoroughly into the comic now, so I just recently bought a copy of KOTOR 1 for myself and have played it a bit at my bud's house on his X Box. I'm currently in the Taris undercity, so still early on. Anyway, I'm definitely into the whole world. I think, through the comic, I understand for the first time why people like Mandalorians so much.

Hey, don't blame KOTOR; it was just sticking to continuity set down by, I believe, Alien Anthology, which introduced one of the most unnecessary retcons ever.
At least the KOTOR reference was actually cool.

KOTOR I for me is probably the best Star Wars video game I have, and probably will, ever play. The universe is very in depth, the characters are (to me, some might disagree with Canderous's and HK-47's views) sympathetic, and the gameplay itself is very fluid.
The comics are incredible for me as well. I'm one of those people who wait for the TPBs, and so got into it a little late, but from Flashpoint on I was hooked. I cannot wait to see what happens next with them.
KOTOR II, however, really let me down. I picked it up expecting more greatness, only to be subjected to a long, tortuous opening strongly reminscent of 2001: A Space Oddyssey, really annoying game glitches, and the fact I now cannot progress past Telos courtesy of a glitch activated by selecting a particular dialogue option. Way to go, Obsidian.

The opening is not a flaw of the game by the way, but your own humble opinion. As for myself, I loved the Kotor II opening more than I loved the Kotor I opening.

II is way better than the original. In theory, at least-- I suck, so I missed about half the story.
