I knew Stover was awesome, but didn't think he was that awesome. How you can make a jedi that badass and still be a jedi...

How is this novel regarded by most of the EU community? It's a bit bloody for a Star Wars book, and I don't think I have heard sex mentioned much less rape implications. So was it considered too dark?

Most people I know never even finished it.

It's one of the few PT era books I own, I never got page 100 in 3 tries.

Just never got me hooked.

It's generally well regarded, but I think it's the weakest of the 3 Stover SW novels. I still really enjoyed it; the worst of Stover is still really damn good.

First time I tried to read it, I gave up; to me, it just wasn't Star Wars. But once I'd read Traitor, I *got* Stover's style, and found Shatterpoint to be pretty darn awesome. It's great to find some relatively original takes on the Saga. 'Course, Shatterpoint pales in comparison to the RotS novelization -- but then, what doesn't?

I didn’t like it, as I only like books with fuzzy care bear robots and cozy tea parties and frolicking adventures through bubble fields of joy and love.

I found it to be one of the best SW novels I read in the PT era. I haven't read all of them. But of all the ones I read, I found it extraordinarely good...

It gave me a whole new appreciation for Mace!

Also, the perspective he brings to the CW is superb in bringing us deeper into the root causes of the war and palpatine's strategy for taking the Empire.

A+

Shatterpoint rules!

Yeah, I liked it a lot. While it was Stover's weakest to date, it was still great, and it was nice to see the Shatterpoints come into play once again in the ROTS novel, also by Stover.

And it was a lot more fun to read than Heart of Darkness tongue

While it was very gritty, Stover still made it work and feel like a SW story, as if Mace really was fighting to restore some snaity to things and bring it back to even the usual level of SW craziness.

I loved it, I would still put Traitor and RotS above it, but then again, I'd put them above pretty much all the EU novels so that doesn't really mean too much.

I'm a huge Stover fan both EU and otherwise, I really like his style, it is very gritty and can sometimes be brutal, but it is his psychology and his ability to get right inside characters heads that I really love. Also, something that doesn't get mentioned so much, but his fight scenes are great as well, maybe it is because of the way he portrays his characters and gets into their heads, but you can really feel the effects of the battles both physically and psychologically.

that"s precisely what i loved about the novel: it digs down into the character's heads.

Also, as first CW novel, I really feel it sets the tone for the beginning of the dark times.

Ain't read RoTS yet, but can't wait to, I wonder how he potrays the Palp vs Windu battle from Mace's perspective in light of Shatterpoint.

I used to be a Big Anti-Stover fan.

Then I read Shatterpoint and Revenge of the Sith.

What I love is the fact that he utterly contrasts Vegere/Jacen against Mace Windu.

They have the same thoughts, ideas, and problems with the Force.

....And come to utterly different conclusions.

I also loved Shatterpoint, with a passion!

It's much too often that reading SW EU feels like I'm reading Superman comix. The Jedi are cool & all, but I just can't really relate to these fantastic force powers they have, so it's why I gravitate towards books like Shatterpoint, SotE or the RC books. Shatter does a nice job of giving me the average citizens PoV of the SW galaxy & Stover is such a good author. Loved it man, too much love!
