I never took the Star Wars universe that seriously. I looked at it as childerens fantasy. Awesome ideas, but fantasy non the less.

This actually bruoght the nature of The Force to light. Its like, being a Jedi is a way of life, of living through the Force. There is no self in that equation and everytime Mace made that mistake things sort of fell apart. It was when he let go and let instinct, training, and The Force guide him and let go of his "id", his ego/self, he would destroy it all.

Mace basically schools this kid Nick in how to use the force. Did you see him at the end? There is teh final showdown between Mace and Col Geptun, and Mace does a force grabe of his lightsaber, and Nick backs him up by force grabbing two blasters "Let's not, ok?"

I loved how he described Maces fighting style and his overall personality. It expanded on a lot of what I got from movie.

I have beeen a Stover fan since I read Blade of Tyshalle. The guy writes like he is writing for me only. His characters act and move as I woudl expect them to move. And I finally got The Force. I mean I really and truly got what it does and what it's about, from Mace Windu's perspective.

And for some reason I got a little sad about the Clone Troopers. That engineered loyalty, and drive for perfection. I knew clones where badass, (I played Republic COmmando), and I have seen the movies but they just rocked in my opinion.

I thought this was an excellent book, and look forward to reading more of Stover in the Star Wars universe.

I need to read this again, because I recall really liking it. It may help that it was my first EU book (not counting the Star Wars novelization, which I read way back when).

Stover is the best author ever. You can quote me.

I'm an unabashed Stover worshipper.

Anyways, TRAITOR got my hooked onto MWS, then I read Shatterpoint. It rocked my world, so I read HEROES DIE.
Oh My God. Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle are literally the greatest books I've ever read.

I agree with all of the above. I'm rereading Heroes Die for the 4th time and rediscovering how dropkick awesome it is. Both Caine novels and all three Star Wars books are superb. His Barra duology isn't as great - but still decent and contains hints of the excellent writer that he will become.

I thought I was the only one who loved ROTS novel and Traitor but hated Shatterpoint. The problem as I read it is that the book went on and on. I found it hard to follow because it was boring. Straight up boring. Traitor is brilliant but Shatterpoint went no where for me and was even confusing as I never really understood what happened to Mace's padawan. It was such a disappointment that I switched off the books and into the comics.

Uh, what, there were clones in this book? Where? Oh right, those brief cameos towards the end. talk_hand

Eh...I liked Shatterpoint, but it lacked the gritty darkness of The Baby Ewoks' Picnic Surprise

And it's not as good as Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor will be.

Rather than repeat what everyone else has been saying (i.e., excellent book, liked it in spite of disliking Mace), I'll say that I liked that Stover was the only one to try and make sense of Lucas's nonsensical setup (i.e., 1.2 million soldiers) for the Great Clone War.

Too bad nobody else-- Lucas included-- paid any attention.

I read Shatterpoint a while ago but I forgot his rationale for the number. What was it again?

That the war was for the most part a proxy war, fought mostly between planetary militaries with the clones functioning as limited-deployment advisers and the like. Mace muses early on in the book that they didn't even have enough clones to have one on each of the Republic's worlds-- Stover is, to my knowledge, the only author to openly acknowledge this fact.

He is also one of the few authors to grapple with "our ability to use the Force has diminished" in a concrete fashion.

How does anyone know that this Shadows on Mindor book is going to be any good? I've been hearing a whole lot of this on these boards & I don't understand it.

What's it about?

Who's writing it?

What time period will it cover?

When is it coming out?
