I would love to see more of the "lawless" outer rim worlds. Like Charles said, they offer far more adventurous and fresh stories. Using some new planets, or going back to lesser developed ones, could really bring some excitement and adventure back to the books (LOTF, I am looking at you).

I dunno, for me, I'd go insane living in a city with no privacy or trees.

Can you imagine the parking on Coruscant?

Mon Calamari has 27.5 billion people living on it. Almost evenyl split between Calamarians and Quarren. Though, IIRC, based on number provided by GATOR, there may be something like half a billion humans living on the world as well.

As for the Core, I second the opinions of those who point out we have seen very little of the Core.

When was the last time we got a good look at Kuat? Or spent time by the Silver Sea on Chandrilia? Or the rocky outcropings of Recopia? Or the now verdant surface of Duro?

Which is to say nothing of the terraced hills of Anaxes, the cool mountains of Esseles, the spoiled surface of Caamas, or Koros Major and the old Tetan worlds?

We see very little of the Core in reality. Coruscant is not the entire Core afterall.

And, I have no problem seeing Coruscant. It is the galactic capital afterall. wink

Parking on Coruscant prior to the Clone Wars was quite literally endangered.

Sick of Coruscant? Maybe. It's a region all to itself, to be quite honest.

I haven't really seen the Core Worlds, apart from Corellia and the least populated of the Core. It's always either the capital or the outer reaches, a common failing of galaxy-wide sci-fi empires. I just want to see some adventure set in the space-equivalent of Buffalo or Kansas City for once...

Yeah, the old "bait-and-switch" of Denon annoyed me too. So much for the generations it would take to make Coruscant habitable again!

What irritated me as a kid, to be quite honest, was that all we ever saw of the "Galactic Empire" was the backwater planets.

C19: We've seen Corellia often, but it is an atypical Core world. It has far more in common with the lawless Rim than it does to the urbane Core.

We've seen so precious little of the Core and so much of the worthless Rim that it sickens me.

I think the Core is a bit less urbane than commonly described. I mean, you've got lawless and semi-lawless worlds like Abregado-rae and Corellia; backwaters like Leria Kerlsil and most of the Farlax sector; and breadbaskets like Salliche, Yulant, Ruan, and Broest. Sure, there are MORE urban planets in the Core than elsewhere, but I think you can find a lot of the Rim in the Core (and vice versa - see Eriadu, Gerrenthum, or Lianna).

Yes, I agree with Ris_jSarek.

The Core is OLD but it's not URBAN. It's New England but not necessarily New York.

Alderaan had 3 billion people, Chandrilla is like a gigantic Martha's Vineyard with not even a billion people living on, Corellia has 3 billion people on it and it's the most inhabited planet in the Sector, Duros is a toxic wasteland that isn't even inhabited, and so on.

Actually, a fun fact about the Star Wars galaxy is that people seem to have a tremendous resistance to urbanization. With so many planets available, a lot of people move out.

Nah. Other than Coruscant and Corellia, we never visit the rest of the Core. While I do prefer the Rim worlds, there's still plenty to be had here, too.

I guess what bugs me is the blatant and constant favoritism shown to the Core Worlds by both the Republic and the Empire.

They abandoned the galaxy to save a bunch of worthless aristocrats.

Ugh.

I'd like to see some more exploration of the Unknown Regions. Perhaps by Ben and Jaina after LOTF, along with some other Jedi that we haven't seen that much of, maybe a young love interest for Ben.

Getting sick...of a region...of a fictional galaxy.

Hmm.

I've turned a Saturday morning cartoon into a political thriller, and researched a mountain in a videogame in depth, but I'm not sure I'm ready to stoop to that particular level.

So I'll remain totally impartial.

Feel free to sing along:

There's a billion stars in this galaxy
But we keep returning to two or three
Coruscant, Tatooine -
And the few more we've seen
What a small world after all!

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

Not every world in the Core is a busting at the seems global metropolis...to the best of my knowledge, only Coruscant is like that in the Core (There are a couple others outside the core, but not near the scale)

That said, the sheer number of worlds in the core is what brings up the population and importance, not massive populations on worlds.

We know there are many agricultural worlds in the core.

We know there are "green" worlds

And we know there are semi-urbanized worlds. But we never visit hardly any of them.

Why?

A) why reinvent the wheel? Why would an author go to the trouble of blowing precious page count on describing a new world that is just like 2 or 3 worlds we've already visited.

B) Fan Recognition: Never underestimate the allure for LFL/DR/authors to name drop or go back to popular and familiar locales. Why have we EVER gone back to places like Endor, Tatooine, Hoth? These days...CORUSCANT, CORUSCANT, CORUSCANT...it was amazing in TTT and JAT, 15-16 years ago...but enough already.

C) Don't stray from the standards: No doubt there are wonderful write ups on worlds like Corellia, Hapes, and Coruscant for the writers to draw upon. And since we know our authorships EU reading spans the spectrum...the completeness and value of this compendium is likely stacking the deck as to what we see.

D) Nothing new can come from the Core: Simple concept that the core is "done"...they use the "big" worlds (thematically) to make it seem like a dire galactic crisis, while carefully avoiding pitfalls of continuity and canon by ignoring anything in the surrounding area. Any "NEW" worlds MUST come in an area of space that is distant and unknown...Thus we get DNT in the unknown regions and the Vong from beyond the galaxy itself. Apparently the galaxy is too small.

E) Buzz worlds: Yep...it's gonna sell if Coruscant is in it. Han's home planet? same thing. Seems as though Hapes has ascended to this status as well...though only so far as the queen's palace. Tatooine is the default when you really don't care where you are.

***special note: as a general rule for RPG games, I allow the party to choose the planet from which they would like to begin. there is always a -500 XP for anyone who chooses a planet from a film...and -750XP for anyone starting on Tatooine. It's a wonderful deterrent.***

So Devaronian females are suppose to have thick fur, eh?
Has anyone seen one outside an essential guide?
