I just finished reading this book. I have to say, for a book with virtually no real plot, I rather liked it. I certainly enjoyed it more than some of the other novels I've read recently.

Although, I can't say I really like the thought of Tarkin getting all hot and bothered tongue Incidentally, what was the real point of adding Daala to the story? She could have been left out and no one would have noticed. That has to be my main gripe about this book, the dropped plots. So did they ever find the rebel sabetours on the Death Star? We don't find out. What really made that Star Destroyer blow up? We don't find out. What did Daala find out during her investigation? We don't find out! Aaaargh sad This book seemed to be just a bunch of random stuff happening to people who happen to have something to do with the Death Star. I understand that that was probably the point of the book, but I much prefer novels to have a more cohesive plot.

Nevertheless, I liked the book and I found those mostly random stories entertaining.

Daala appears to have been included so that she could get a head injury to make her stupid and explain why she can be both a moron and a tactical genius. The saboteur storyline is less clear; personally, I suspect a tie-in to the plot of What Sin Loyalty, which involved a saboteur aboard the Death Star.

Why are people mad that there are bars in the Death Star and that Tarkin likes the ladies? Didn't you ever wonder when you were a kid where the bathroom was on the Millenium Falcon? I like the more down to earth approach taken in this novel as a change of pace. There are plenty of books full of space battles etc. etc. so I say there's room for this kind of thing.

I'm reading the novel Death Star for the first time, and to say the least it really surprised me when Memah Roothes stripped naked for Dr. Divini. It seemed so out of character and random! Any other thoughts on this scene, or the novel as a whole?
