And so, the Simpsons and Gary Coleman argued long into the night...
"Let's just agree that the direction that Del Rey has taken the franchise is a mixed blessing."
"Amen!"
But back on track, does anyone have any thoughts on the question I posed in my post above? I'm honestly curious as to just how much of an impact the actual publishing company has.

I don't think it really matters. It's the author that's important. And the publishing companies don't have as much say as LL.

Less with Star Wars than with most tie-ins; Sue Rostini is far more involved than her equivalent at most other licensors.
Still, they do have some say. My understanding is that a long series like the NJO couldn't have gone ahead without publisher support (and may even have been their idea), while it's the publisher who's rejecting anthologies.

As I understand it - and I'm by no means an insider - I think the publisher has a large say in the authors that get contracted. Granted, there are some that get carried over - Zahn, Stackpole - but for the most part the publisher asks for who they feel is a good fit for the work.
Now, it may be a case where some authors are contracted to one publisher and couldn't make the jump, and it could be that the publisher only makes suggestions and it's still LFLs call, but that's the read I get.
So, in that respect, the publisher has a decent impact since they have a hand in picking the voices that're telling the stories.

It's odd if the publisher doesn't get to select rather freely to which writers they give the contracts. I would imagine that LFL would intervene only if they don't want some particular author, to whom DR would intend to give a contract, to work in EU.

No; too high a noise-to-signal ratio.

Not surprising, considering the amount of pointless bickering & whining that dominates this forum.

I think the next series set after LOTF should be set in the Unknown Regions as I said in a thread of my own. I'm sorry if I mislead anyone and saying the next series was confirmed to be set in the UR. I want a post-LOTF series to be set in the UR with a Luke/Ben adventure,A Ben Skywalker solo adventure in the UR or even a Jaina Solo and Jagged Fel adventure in the UR.
And as I said before I hope we get two Xmas gifts from Sue Rostini over at TOS:the announcement of who will publish SW novel in 2009 and beyond and the beautiful Jaina on the cover of the final and most anticipated hardcover novel of LOTF:INVINCIBLE.

The Jaina cover. Yeah, looking forward to that. Those covers have definitely been a plus for LOTF.

Would anyone want to see a Luke/Ben adventure novel or many Luke/Ben adventure novels post-LOTF besides me or more more novels set in the UR post-LOTF?
