Yes, I think that is exactly what Luke and Ben need. The adventure should be FUN - not dark and depressing. LOTF is fine IMHO, but Luke and Ben need to spend some quality action time together after it. It doesn't have to be a wishy washy kids adventure, but I just don't want to see the two of them at odds with each other or the dark side. A single novel or (at most) trilogy set in the UR would be the perfect situation for such an adventure.

That would be a great start to an UR story, actually. Luke takes Ben on a father/son womp rat hunting trip, and they end up being chased down by PETA. An exciting chase ensues, causing Luke to take same back space routes home. And then BAM! - Luke and Ben, lost in the unknown regions.

Just this from Sue in the VIP Thread:
I was curious if there's any chance to see Steven Barnes come back and write again.
He's on the list, but he's very busy with his own work. We haven't made any final decisions on who we're going to invite in, this time.... a lot depends on peoples' schedules.

Watch it with the personal comments, people.
And THRAWN007, some of your posts do seem to be rather spammish. Next time, try to post something that adds to the discussion...

I'm just looking forward to the next contract like everybody else. And I can't help if Jaina is attractive even if she is only a character. Cut me some slack here. I was offering my opinions about I hope to see Luke and Ben team up novels especially novels set in the UR or more novels in the UR.
And I was saying I hope Sue Rostini announces the new contract on TOS just in time for Christmas.
Also I hope to see more novels with the big three post-LOTF or more fill in the gaps books like Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. And I do hope that Matt Stover(LSATSOM) will write the last big three adventure as he has said in interviews. And I also hope Sue Rostini and the future publisher(Del Rey)? will bring back Timothy Zahn to do a Luke and Ben and Chiss adventure in the UR and even bring Walter Jon Williams(Destiny's Way) to do a post-LOTF novel perhaps with Jaina and Jag in the UR.

I love LOTF...be careful what you wish for.
My biggest complaint is that Han is just some oaf who yells and then says "OK, your right...I'm done."
The New Rebellion was the last book he was Han Solo, "I ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN"

My wish(es) for the new contract:
-Less focus on the Big Three. Let's have them in periphery roles, and allow a new generation to star in the novels. Right now, sure you have the odd Jaina or Jacen moment, sprinkle in a Ben moment. But Luke, Han and Leia always end up being a big part of the story as well. It'd be nice if, for a change, the Big Three had about as big a role as, say, Yoda had in the OT. Advisers, used for their wisdom. But they weren't central to the story. I've been hoping for this for a while now, so I know that chances are we'll still see the Big Three starring front and center in the next post-LotF series, but that'd be my number one wish.
-Enough with the long series. I've figured out why I can't sit down and re-read the NJO books again, and why I'm having trouble re-reading the LotF books. It's because in order for me to get the full effect of the individual novels, I'd have to re-read EVERY novel. And that's a huge task! Contrast that to something like the Thrawn Trilogy, and I can easily re-read that story arc in a week, two tops.
-The eras I'd like touched upon are: post-LotF (and somewhere far enough into the future that it's feasible to have characters in lead roles that don't include the Big Three, and KOTOR era. Yeah, I'm a KOTOR video game fan. And that's piqued my interest in the Old Old Republic time, so any novels set during that time appeal to me.
-Stop killing off so many damn characters. I don't know if it's done for shock value, or if they (the publishers/editors) truly believe it raises the tension of the series, but I find it annoying after a while. As some people have said, the reason why there doesn't seem to be a "new generation" to take over from the Big Three, is because Del Rey seems to want to kill them off as soon as they begin to get developed!
That's what I'm hoping for, when the announcement about the new book series is made. More than anything, I'm hoping for the first one on my list, which is post-LotF, with new main characters, and not having to read AGAIN how Luke, Han, and Leia saved the day.

I'd like to have various books set in as many era's as possible. Also since we might get a spinoff novel series from the clone wars series and the live action series I think you'll have an even better chance of making everyone happy

I think it would be interesting for them to go back and flesh out some of the existing eras some more. This can be done rather easily I think, even with the Rebellion and New Republic Era, the focus just needs to be taken away from The Big Three. The Rogue Squadron books are to this day among my favorite SW novels, and they simply took a minor character from the films (Wedge) and really fleshed him out, gave him an identity and career of his own. Similarly with the Republic Commando novels.
Personally, I'd like to see some Rogue Squadron-type books for both the Clone Wars and NJO eras. The Clone Wars lends itself well to this because it was such a tumultuous time period. Maybe a Republic squadron that has a mix of clone and non-clone pilots, with disparity between the two groups being a theme or something. This could be moved to the Dark Times era and depict the incorporation of clones from different human subjects. With the NJO we only received the story arc with it's primary focus on the main players. There is so much potential for this time period to be expanded upon with new characters, different points of view (how cool would it be to have Yuuzhan Vong-based novels?), and maybe different conflicts that are only hinted at in the existing books. Maybe a team of Jedi that are out on the front lines. Too often, I feel as if the secondary Jedi that get only get passing mentions are there to be cannon fodder and show that "OMG, even Jedi are getting wiped out!!1!" It would be nice to see someone other than existing main characters kicking some serious butt and taking names.
