JediHobbit posted: I think it would be interesting for them to go back and flesh out some of the existing eras some more. This can be done rather easily I think, even with the Rebellion and New Republic Era, the focus just needs to be taken away from The Big Three. The Rogue Squadron books are to this day among my favorite SW novels, and they simply took a minor character from the films (Wedge) and really fleshed him out, gave him an identity and career of his own. Similarly with the Republic Commando novels.
The popularity of the X-Wing series, and the Republic Commando series, has me wondering why LFL is so hesitant to do more of those types of books (ie. "minor" characters are the stars). I could understand if the X-Wing books, or the RC books were a monumental flop, both in terms of reception to their story, and from a sales point of view. But unless I'm off, I don't think they were. So why does Del Rey/LFL feel they absolutely *need* to include the Big Three in novels, in order for it to sell?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Luke, Han, and Leia. But I also like variety when it comes to my Star Wars novels. I don't want to read about them every single time I open up a post-RotJ novel. And apart from the X-Wing series, at least one of the Big Three has had a starring role in the novels printed post-RotJ.

Personally, I would be interested of seeing what TOR could do with the contract. They are a rather major publishing house owned also by a big publishing group, which could make a contract offer possible, and theirs are usually of higher than average quality books. They also have few former SW authors in their lists. And when Baen's covers are usually horrible faux-pulp covers, TOR books often are quite beautiful.
Yeah. I've said for a while that I'd like TOR to pick up the contract. While TOR has a lot of amazing artists on tap, they also have a terrific roster of authors (and yes, this includes Timothy Zahn), and that's more important when you get down to things. In fact, while most publishing houses are dumping their tie-ins TOR's actually scooping them up.
Del Rey dumped the Halo tie-in novels. TOR picked the license up and is actually doing okay with them. Think the situation could happen again, except with Star Wars?
Eos also seems to be a fairly decent publisher itself. It's a division of HarperCollins but they've churned out generally decent stuff. However, HarperCollins seems to be to scaling back on sci-fi and fantasy so I don't think Eos is in the race.
And for those who said Bantam can't simply steal the license back: Del Rey outbidded Bantam for control in the late 90's. It can happen.

It depends on the editor. James Frenkel is crap at commissioning good tie-in lines; the three times he's tried, only one or two of the books have been any good. It doesn't help that he's extremely dismissive of anybody who's written a tie-in before as "not a real author", and the books the same.

Actually, this would be highly unusual since the two are one nowadays. Del Rey, as part of Ballatine, is owned by Random House, as is the Bantam line. I don't think the bosses up the food chain would be thrilled if two subsidiary lines were bidding against each other on a contract....

I was actually musing recently that "TOR" might be related to the Arabic "tur." Given the mountain logo, and Tur is a chapter in the Qur'an often translated as "mountain."

Okay, it's going back about 6-7 pages, but was there any feedback from Sue or anyone else re: the reboot question, wherever the contract ends up?

Based on our guesses of how LOtF will end, I'm wondering specifically what you think the next series could be about. Of course we don't know everything, but what do you think is most likely for them to do?
Here's my idea:
Another 9 book series -- Luceno, Stover and ???
We start off a new contract (with Del Rey of course) with a series with the younger characters finally in the spotlight. I'm talking Leia and Han in maybe two or three of the books, and Luke in five or six. And no more stupid cameos ffrom Lando or Wedge. Let's throw in Valin or Syal instead. We've had 21 books to get to know the new characters, it's finally time to move on.
It's a back to basics master and apprentice thing going on in the story. Jaina finally starts acting normal again and Ben starts to hint at what his future will hold. If Jacen survives, he'd be in the background for this series, possibly not doing something (to redeem himself?) until the following series.
Instead of a galactic war, we see that Mandalorian uprising that we have always wanted. I'm sure they're not just in LotF because Traviss wanted them there. So they try to rebel while the galaxy is torn to pieces and the Imperial remnant tries to stop them. Jaina doesn't know what to do because she is of course finally married to Jag, but Boba had helped train her (and Boba should die if he hasn't already).
We also see a good government finally form that the Jedi are allied with. LotF kinda wiped out everything that NJO tried to make. I thing that we should see an upward build until 130 ABY.
And of course, we see a couple of appearances of the New Sith Order.
You like it??

If the next contract includes a post-LOTF series, I suspect the series name will also incorporate the term "Legacy" in some manner to identify it's era to casual readers more prominently.
