Never underestimate the power of an individual author. But...
The Mandos might be in LotF also as a kind of Vector-lite effort to get people buy both LotF and RC books. RC book readers can't know the eventual fates of some characters without reading Traviss' LotF books and LotF readers can't get everything off from the Mando plot without reading the RC books.

The2ndQuest posted: If the next contract includes a post-LOTF series, I suspect the series name will also incorporate the term "Legacy" in some manner to identify it's era to casual readers more prominently.
Legacy of the Empire.

Translation: Legacy of the Fels, a 19-book (+ 1 ebook*) series, each book focusing on a different child of Soontir
(did you know that the Chiss word for "shadow children" is Myd'elreycon'tractfillero?)
*detailing the previously unknown history of the Fett & Fel/Antilles/Solo bloodlines and how they bred to produce Roan Fel, to finally reveal why Roan Fel's badassery knows no bounds).

There will be post-Legacy books. And I'm hedging a miniseries of Bane's hidden Sith.

My utilisation of complex locution to ask what's more pathetic, fans who worship their movie actors, or the actors who couldn't give a damn, is more a reflection of my own superincumbent mental actuity than any circumscribed lexicon. Don't you agree?

JLP4A posted: Based on our guesses of how LOtF will end, I'm wondering specifically what you think the next series could be about. Of course we don't know everything, but what do you think is most likely for them to do?
Here's my idea:
Another 9 book series -- Luceno, Stover and ???
We start off a new contract (with Del Rey of course) with a series with the younger characters finally in the spotlight. I'm talking Leia and Han in maybe two or three of the books, and Luke in five or six. And no more stupid cameos ffrom Lando or Wedge. Let's throw in Valin or Syal instead. We've had 21 books to get to know the new characters, it's finally time to move on.
It's a back to basics master and apprentice thing going on in the story. Jaina finally starts acting normal again and Ben starts to hint at what his future will hold. If Jacen survives, he'd be in the background for this series, possibly not doing something (to redeem himself?) until the following series.
Instead of a galactic war, we see that Mandalorian uprising that we have always wanted. I'm sure they're not just in LotF because Traviss wanted them there. So they try to rebel while the galaxy is torn to pieces and the Imperial remnant tries to stop them. Jaina doesn't know what to do because she is of course finally married to Jag, but Boba had helped train her (and Boba should die if he hasn't already).
We also see a good government finally form that the Jedi are allied with. LotF kinda wiped out everything that NJO tried to make. I thing that we should see an upward build until 130 ABY.
And of course, we see a couple of appearances of the New Sith Order.
You like it??
I'm fine with most of your idea, apart from the whole 9-book series thing. Seriously, I want stand alone novels that cover various stories within the NJO to LotF era, filling in the gaps, and providing stories about what the "lesser known" people in the galaxy went through during that time.
At most, a 3-book series. But no more huge story arcs, with various authors, and more shoddy continuity and flow through the entire series. NJO was horrendous for this, and LotF isn't much better, IMO.

I agree with the above.
We need some good, tight, one-author trilogies, ala Thrawn Trilogy, Han Solo Trilogy.
After all, these follow the same format as the films... beginning / middle / end.

Have multi-author series ever been consistent in quality?

Ah. Well, in general, most non-tie-ins don't have multi-author series. I suspect that the percentage of those without quality variations will round down to zero; but then, in general it's hard to find a single-author series of consistent quality.

Ahem. Steven Erikson!
Julie Czerneda's Trade Pact series is eyecatching, as is Sagara's Cast In books. I;ve heard good praise on Hunt's Dark Wing series.

I agree with most of what's been said above about having a series per author and no more nine book marathons, but I'll go even further:
I'm not interested in what they do with the Luke Skywalker period anymore. To me, that's completely karked up beyond all recognition and salvation. What's interesting is what they're doing with Bane, while everyone's looking at LOTF: the second book has just come out and people are still wondering how many books it will entail. His future is pretty much open, and has been so from the beginning.
