A delicious Hyperspace morsel, brought to you by two fine gentlemen, Abel G. Peña and Rich Handley. Good show, as usual. Some highlights:

-An explanation for the supposed Imperial xenophobia.
-Plenty of background material on Mammon Hoole and Borborygmus Gog, of Galaxy of Fear infamy.
-The origin of a certain three-eyed freak...
-Background for Malrev, and the events of X-Wing: Requiem for a Rogue.
-At last... the origin of The Suprema, Ampotem Za.

And this is Part 1. Which implies that there is more to come.

grin

That was a cool surprise... lots of long-forgotten questions answered at long last (and some raised)! dancing

I find that part about Hoole and Moore interesting. The latter seems to be behind quite a bit in the EU all of a sudden.

If you mean this bit:

Hoole and Gog's first attempt was rumored to have gone terribly wrong, resulting in the woman giving birth to a three-eyed mutant; mother and son were quickly spirited away by the Chancellor's confidant, Sarcev Quest.

Now now, that tidbit may easily be about Trioculus....

Remember both are "three eyed mutants" from Kessel.

Triclops is considered to be the Emperor's "true son" by the Grand Moffs and Prophets of the Dark Side though; this background fits him better than it does Trioculus. Knowing Abel and the way he tends to tell interconnected stories within his articles, and the way in which the stories of Triclops, Trioculus and Hissa are all interrelated, I think we'll probably see Trioculus's origin in Part 2.

The bit with Hoole and Gog is just brilliant, IMO. This ties together their quest to create life on Kiva with Palpatine's interest in Plageuis' experiments, as well as the long-debated birth of Trioculus. The latter two have been suggested to be connected since ROTS came out; but I don't think anyone ever thought to bring in Hoole's experiments from the dawn of the Empire into play.

Abel's articles have now nicely tied many elements created for the Young Adult series together now: Jedi Apprentice's Zan Arbor's Force research was studied by Galaxy of Fear's Gog, who helped to create Glove of Darth Vader's Trioculus, who was eventually imprisoned by the false Prophets of the Dark Side, one of whom, Orloc, survived to menace the Junior Jedi Knights. Sweet. grin

I loved the mention of Major Rahz--of all the obscure characters to bring back...

TC

Yeah, I was a little confused by that one. It could have been either 3-eyed chap.

Which means until we're given any more clues, we get to fight about it! tongue

EDIT: Just saw your post, TC. I suppose it MIGHT fit Triclops.

And Rahz was definitely neat to see again.

Oh, I agree, I think the author's intent is that it is Triclops...but in-universe....such text can swing either way. wink

PS: Taloncard, you said it was Triclops in your first paragraph, but then spent the rest of your post talking about it being Trioculus. tongue

Also Abel, I don't want to alarm you, but I think I spotted a continuity boo-boo with regards to Sarcev Quest...

I think Triclops makes more sense. There aren't any indications that Trioculus was anything particularly special (other than being slavemaster of Kessel, that is) until Hissa started his conspiracy, while Triclops' background was a special one in GODV and more recently, Evil Never Dies.

The moment I saw the name "Niobi," I immediately associated it with Niobe from Greek mythology. Alas, I couldn't remember who she WAS in Greek mythology, so I had to look her up. It seems the primary Niobe mentioned on Wikipedia, the wife of Amphion, doesn't (to my eye) have a lot of thematic links with Niobi. However, in the Other Niobes in Greek myth section, it mentions Niobe, Daughter of Pheroneus, who was the "first mortal woman to attract the love of the god Zeus. By Zeus, this Niobe was the mother of Argus, legendary founder of the Greek city of Argos." Given that Abel has gotten creative with the Greeks in the past, I'm sure this "first to bear the offspring of the chief god/first to bear the spontaneous creation of new life" is not a coincidence . . . especially when you consider the fact that her son, Argus, shares his name with Argus Panoptes, "Argus All-Eyes." thinking

The founder was legendary, not the city. Argos was very much real, and still is.
