Sue confirmed on the official boards the other day, they're working on a second SW Encyclopedia! I remember when the first one came out, a number of years ago, and it's a fantastic, if somewhat dated volume now. It's expected at the end of 2008.

I thought this was confirmed a while ago? Anyways, I used to love my old Encyclopedia. It seems a bit superfluous with Wookieepedia now, but I'll probably end up getting it anyways.

Seriously...take that dedication and put it into updating and expanding TOS databank...then maybe the wook wouldn't be our one-stop source for all things SW factoid.

I'm not dropping $30 on a book that will be outdated in a year.

I think there's room for a printed volume to occupy the space between an Essential Guide and the databank. Entries that otherwise might not be included in an EG can get elaborated upon and updated, for example.

provided future releases don't change things and thus invalidate the entries.

Just like the old Essential Guides and the older guides to the universe...at this stage, it just makes more sense to provide the stuff in a format that can be kept up to date.

Now...if they would just keep the databank up to date.

If they want to make money off it, they release an encarta-style SW encyclopedia that will auto-update online...now THAT I might buy.

Thing is, if this one is at all like the older one, it ain't gonna have any new material-- in which case... why bother?

I have the first Encyclopedia and love it. An updated version would be very welcome. The first was printed in 1998 according to the back flap and a lot has happened since then. I do like the printed fact type books, but remember the first Encyclopedia costing a lot more than $30 dollars. $49.95 US, $70.00 Canada..........

so the first one came out in 98?

Is this something we can expect at the end of every contract period?

As far as the first goes, Superwatto, use it as a bookend. laugh

Meh. If it's got the Dusty Duck in it, I'm buying it.

But what are the chances of that being in there, right? cry

Of course, if it goes the way of the recent EGs and includes art by Chris Trevas, it would be worth it. Not for the info, mind, just the pictures.

The point of such a volume isn't to provide new material, but to serve as a reference source for the old stuff. Reading Balance Point, but don't remember where you saw Hallis Saper before? Or want to know just who the Yevethans dying in Force Heretic were, when you didn't read BFC?

Hopefully, though, this won't rehash material covered in the first volume. To borrow from the above, I don't want to see a complete repeat of the Yevetha entry just to see "They all died at the hands of the Vong in 28 ABY" added at the end.

It's nice to know that those who make the board possible matter.

If someone other than me edited this, please don't attribute anything in it to me in quotes. It's not mine anymore.
