Having just watched the Deceived trailer and reading the latest webcomic I realized the Imperial Commandos are wearing the exact same outfit as the Sith warriors from the trailer...only they had guns instead of lightsabers...weird.

Question: Does this mean that the goal or arc of the game is changing? That these inconsistencies and lapses in story and character are a product of the game designers not really being sure what this game is about yet but LFL is releasing stuff anyway?

I think it's more of a case of trying to fit too much "gameplay" into a webcomic. They're obviously trying to feature stuff from the game---that's why we have the otherwise unrelated bounty hunters and casino scene. But, apparently they couldn't find a more natural way to work them into the plot, so they just sort of tacked them on. Had they stuck to the main plot (Sith attack Coruscant, and the repercussions) it would have been less helter-skelter, though still imperfect.

Perhaps there is a second webcomic series.

The comic's main problem boils down to that they're primarily using it to throw out teasers of what is going to be in the game, rather than focus on telling the story. This issue seems to have mostly been about "Come! See our Imperial Commandos!" rather than explain why Satele's ship decided to go and encounter a Sith destroyer.

I can't remember whether last issue she was on her way to the Sith Empire or something though? I think she was heading off to the Outer Rim... so maybe she's heading into Sith Space; but no clue. I'd assume that's what's happening... we just haven't been told anything about why she is going off on her own, where to, and what for.

My guess is just "Running away to live another day" but... dunno. Maybe there's a Jedi Enclave hidden somewhere. Bring on Dantooine as a playable world...AGAIN! rolling_eyes

Well... as I've been talking about Commandos for weeks... I'm going to put my money on that they're indeed a class. tongue

I do wonder, now we've seen that the Imperial Commandos are not the same thing as the Imperial... Stormtroopers (?) whether this means we still have yet to see the main troops of the Republic Army (i.e. whether it's the same principle for them, with the Republic Special Operations Troopers not being the same thing as the bog standard soldiers).

Unless these Imperial Commandos are still the same as the Imperial "Stormtroopers" we saw previously, and just at a differnet, um, "level" the way there is the difference between the "Rebel troops" (low level) and "Clone troops" (high level) with the Special Ops class.

I stopped reading this *comic* after the last installment.
I didn't want to become jaded against the game two years before it comes out.

For all the action, eye-candy and panache that the "Deceived" trailer had...

the TOR *comic* is the polar opposite.

Lets be honest, the trailer lacks substance too.

But it looks nice.

My take on why the comic is so disjointed: It is because the developers want to summarize what happened before the game begun and they are on a schedule. After all, the comic comes out only every two weeks, three pages at a time. If we assume ( yeah, yeah, I know about assumptions... ) that the game is supposed to come out in one year, that means we only have about 84 pages left to tell the whole backstory. So, basically what we have here is an infodump, which is overflowing with nods to the classes and which tries to give a general idea of how things went down before the start of the game.

That's a fair point. This is more like the Chronicles on the KOTOR site than a "narrative" as such. It's just throwing out random bits and pieces of backstory. Instead of just a news bulletin saying "There will be Wookiees" they just throw out a Wookiee in the comic, but don't really go into it anymore than that.

I think there may also be a question in how long they plan to run this. If the comic is intended to continue on indefinitely, then it's understandable that the quality sucks because it isn't really anything more than a novelty. We've just been so spoilt by all the high quality stuff coming out from Dark Horse that a normal webstrip feels a bit weak in contrast.

With so many writers, I think Tales style vignettes featuring various characters and classes of characters might have been more coherent and interesting. A story can be totally self contained at 3 pages or something like Nomad, which was at least 40 pages of story spread over time.

I asked this in another thread, and was told to look here for answers: Is anyone else keeping up with The Old Republic online comic? How far back is it set? The Republic Soldiers don't look too much different than the ones created by Palpatine ( I mean as far as the armor goes). I did'nt think there was a Imperial vs. Republic thing back then either, I thought the Empire was created by Palpatine. I'm confused.

I'll try to help you with some of your questions, First off I'm not sure why the "troopers" look some much like stormtroopers. My guess is just that the armor has been standard republic armor for a while. Or perhaps it was created due to the sith wars.

Second Palpaltine created his Galatic Empire. The sith empire existed long befor Palps was even born. In fact their Dark Lord seems to have taken the classic title of Empiror (I'm sure I'm mispelling and for that I'm very sorry)...

The old republic game isn't so much Imperial vs Republic as it is Sith Empire vs Jedi Republic...The game is set about 100 years after the first KOTOR and about 2500 years before Vader I believe...

The comic isn't that impressive but the trailers are..the game seems to have a huge potential I just hope they aren't just talk/show. As for the creation of this Empire it's has no real conection to the Empire that Palpatine establishes other than it's an older order of sith beliefs and culture.

laugh

My position to the game actually get´s better. Not because of the eye-candy they throw at us, but because of the classes and planets so far. I am concerned about several gameplay aspects, nevertheless.

Will Sith and Jedi hang out together in bars? Will we have troupe´s of 2 Sith, 1 Smuggler, 1 Bounty Hunter and 1 Trooper? Who run around together, always? Even after the Sith has reached lvl 40 and rules the galaxy, more or less?
