I did not like this book. In fact, when it got to the Battle of Fondor, after Luke's Force tricks, I just started skipping over large parts of it. Also skipped over most of the Mando stuff, except for the bits with Jaina. I do not like the Mandos at all, and they took up WAY too much of this book. Too much has been made of them and Boba Fett. I would have preferred that he stayed in the Sarlacc.
The only bright spots in this book for me was Ben's investigation of his mother's murder, and his interactions with Luke.
Star Wars is about JEDI and SITH, not Mandos!
My rating: 1 (only because of Ben, otherwise it would have been a 0)

Well, I personally stand by my previous rating, but I never imagined there was this much sheer depth in this novel. I usually read Star Wars for escapism, and I never thought to look so deep into thinks like YK mentioned. I for one will be re-reading some of my old favorites just to see if there is as much hidden commentary as there was in Revelation.
Also, YK, you rock. Just for taking the time to write your review. This was a triumph.

Just finished the book, so time to chime in with a review.
Aside from some pacing issues, I found the story to be pretty solid. I've enjoyed the entire series so far, and while this isn't my favorite chapter, I think it was a good quick read. The author has a way of expressing emotion and emotional tension that I greatly enjoy. And it's refreshing to see some situations from new and different points of view. I know that there is some disagreement about the value of what characters say, but I take everything to be an opinion. And it's good to see so many opinions and ideas presented throughout the narrative.

No changing scores. Don't even ask. If you didn't like the book as much as you thought you did (I'm not sure how that works) you shouldn't have scored it as you did. If you're subject to changing your mind, you should have waited before you put up a score. We're not revising the score every time anyone changes their mind and wants to drop .03 off their score.
Fair enough. I should have waited to give my thoughts after I re-read it, as I often catch stuff I missed the first time.

6.50 is abysmally low. I'll still pick this up but this score and YodaKenobi's novel length review have me worried.

It's strange...
It somehow seems like I saw all of this coming, having decided not to read anymore Luke after 'Sacrifice'... And, sorry to say, I'm actually happy that it turned out the way I feared. I want to see this LotF bashed to the extreme. Discarded. Forgotten. I want the books to rate lower than any other ones, and it looks like we're right on track. I've even considered reading it just so I can help give it a low rating... But then I'd support Traviss's Jedi bashfest. So I guess I'll just gleefully reread YadaKenobi's post.

Hmm? What're you saying, Trip?
While GenAntilles took this positively, I wonder if it reflects a dislike of faith and organized religion on Karen's part - it would certainly fit with the views she's expressed on Prime Minister Blair...

I liked reading Revelation. Not the best book in the series so far (that's Fury ) but I enjoyed it.
I liked:
- Ben's investigation of Mara's murder; his character is developing nicely and he's finaly seen Mara's ghost
- Pellaeon; great to read about him again (but for the last time ) , he's just cool
- Chimaera; she's back!!
- Jaina's training; she finaly got more space in the book, liked the training - can't wait when she uses some of those tricks on Jacen
- Niathal; I'm actually starting to like her - government in exile? Interesting...
- Ben/Luke relationship
- the J/J hints
Disliked:
- The whole Boba/Sintas thing; I seriously don't need to know how they used to call each other and what caused their divorce... If it really is that important, let Traviss write them another book. It just doesn't fit in the LotF.
- Tahiri; she's just acting so strangely, I don't recognize her character anymore
- Excessive mentions of Naboo; aren't there any other vacation spots in the galaxy??
- lack of Han and Leia
- no R2-D2, C-3PO, Wedge, Corran, Kyp...
(but we just can't have everything, can we... )
Other thoughts:
- I actually liked Admiral Daala, an I supposed to like Admiral Daala??
- It seemed to me I was forced to feel sorry for Boba Fett... Sorry, can't do that.
- another chance to kill Caedus (two of them actually) and yet he's still alive...because the people just refused to kill him... what is this?
So... It's 7.0 for me.

The Bad
I agree with a lot, if not most of the criticism of this book. I was sad to see the once revered Jedi being dragged through the mud (the mud of connecting them with political opportunists who serve only the elite; as if Jedi do not do what they do for the peace of the galaxy and therefore all people) as common criminals because KT does not like them. I just disliked that she replaced the Jedi who have always at least had a code with the Mandos who's code is make money at the expense of anyone. Seems like the moral ambiguity here is straining the intellectual honest too far. Mandos have not use for law, Jedi at least try to work within the law and bring order through legal means. And when the laws are being made by people like Palp, then they do what they can to rectify the situation. In KT Star Wars the only right is what is right from your point of view. Seems like this relativism is been taken too far and distorted the universe GL set up. At least with GL there was a definable good and bad in the universe. Now, Jedi are the one who are bad and should be sent to a remote part of the galaxy and left there. Come on. I was also disappointed that Jaina's part in the book was so small, for being a main player, she had very little to do, except drink the Mando cool-aid.
The Good
I liked seeing Ben really growing. Loved that he and Luke's relationship evolving. It was nice that the Mandos meant something after all that time that has been invested in them. I liked that Jaina was going to learn new things, I am just not sure I loved what she learned. I liked the Remnant and Daala; thought that was clever. Loved seeing Jacen again outmatched by Luke. He keeps underestimating Luke and I love that.
Score 6.2/10
PS
I would love to see Luke get some ass kicking time! I mean, come on! I want to see the Jedi be what they are suppose to be, peace keeping, ass kicking good guys. Lightsaber negotiations. I want the Jedi back.

I'm saying Jedi don't know that they'll see their loved ones after death. Ben, specifically, might be able to guess that he'll probably see his dad again (given family history and all), but for every other Jedi pretty much ever? Not so much. I haven't a clue what Ms Traviss is getting at, here.
