Thanks, Striker.
I imagine we'll probably focus on the adult Bantam novels for a while in order to get into the swing of things, establish a pattern, see how things pan out. Especially since they're more likely to be in the average lit-forumer's personal or local library. But eventually, if this project continues its momentum (which I'm very much hoping it will), it would be great to break out into some of the less mainstream stuff, and the YJK books certainly qualify as material that's often overlooked and may prove very interesting in light of modern developments.
If we get to a stage where we're interested in discussing the YA lit, I'll certainly keep your suggestion of starting with Lightsabers in mind.

Yeah, I'm very open to using this to discuss novels, anthologies, YA books, movie adaptations, comics, guides and sourcebooks . . . even video games if there's interest and there's enough story to it to sustain discussion. Fundamentally what it's about is stimulating discussion on things other than TTT, the NJO, and other big-name or recent material, which otherwise tends to dominate Lit. We'll certainly get to TTT and JAT and X-wing and the NJO eventually, but those aren't things that need the Discussion Group to get significant attention, so they're relatively low priorities for us now. Also, as a large part of it is not just attention but the ability to put things in the perspective of time, even low-discussion-but-recent stuff like Outbound Flight or Death Star isn't going to get reviewed by this project any time soon.

Hmm. It'd be well worth examining Dark Forces and Jedi Knight at some point, then, along with X-Wing and TIE Fighter and XWA, if games are on the table. There are some significant (if often overlooked) contributions to the EU there, especially in DF I & II. Especially JK, which is integrally related to some of the biggest recent fiction (DB: POD: ANOTOR, for example) in a lot of ways, as well as tied to the NJO, LotF, etc.
I, Jedi is definitely a good place to start. I think it'll be interesting when we start hitting other less-talked-about points, be it BFC or TNR or what have you.

I don't have a vast familiarity with the games - especially not the older ones. I've never played DF. But I'm pretty sure there were graphic novel adaptations of them? Those might be a little more accessible to the average litizen and people who had played the games could draw that into the discussion?

This sounds like some good fun; I especially can't wait to discuss BFC.

That's definitely a good possibility, i think. It's doable, and the books are at most public libraries. :-)

I would reccomend that one of the first books reviewed is Before the Storm. Not as well known as the big titles (TTT, NJO, XW, etc), but a amazing book in its own right. And, while it seemed a bit out of place at the time, much of what it established about the New Republic, Imperial Remnant, Defense Force, and politics in general ended up being major themes by the time the NJO came around.
Of course, thats just my opinion. Which is worth little.

Well, Nick, you may be in luck because the current plan is to move on to the Black Fleet Crisis books for the months following I, Jedi.
So other suggestions pending, this may very well be the next book up for discussion.

Yeah, the plan is I, Jedi in May, Before the Storm in June, Shield of Lies in July, and Tyrant's Test in August. I have a few options in mind for after that, but obviously we'll be keeping our eye on opinions for where to move next as we cover that fairly hefty stretch of time.

When it comes to overlooked books, nothing beats the Dark Forces trilogy.
Speaking of which, howsabout a separate review thread for the older comics too?

becca, Havac-
That is awesome news. I better go dig our my old, thumbworn copies of I, Jedi and the BFC. With all the literature out there, it will be fun to jump "back in time" to the Bantam-era.
Bravo!

Hey, I'm looking forward to this too. I, Jedi's a cool book & I'm here to lurk more than to talk anyways so I can't wait to see what interesting things/connections/ideas come outta this discussion.

Dark Horse produced 3 graphic novellas- essentially short novels with a handful of full page artwork.

I'm midway through The Krytos Trap. Is it necessary to read the whole X-Wing series before getting into I, Jedi?
