Another suggestion for you, becca: Cloak of Deception, by James Luceno, which is really one of the jewels of PT era writing.

Yes, please. I'm just about to start Cloak of Deception. The Black Fleet trilogy is out of print in Canada.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's a more recently published novel, but by now it's fairly ancient history and certainly not that high profile. It would be nice to add a PT-era book to the list as well.
What I'll probably do in July - so we'll have an answer by August when we're doing the last BFC book - is have a look through all the recommendations here, narrow it down to a few choices I think would work well as follow-ups to BFC, then hold an informal "show of hands" ballot here as to which few books people would like to do next decision based on interest.

What a barv-illiant idea, it'll make a barv-ing great thread. Hope you like the term 'barve' JH - you'll be seeing a lot of it!

I really enjoyed CoD, so I third this. And I'm looking forward to the BFC discussion.

Any chance of Lightsabers coming after the BFC, just to make sure it does get in? I did suggest it a while ago, after all.

Just Lightsabers? I think a few YJK books could be included, though they can be harder to find...

I'd actually quite like to do some of the YJK books, and as Sinre suggested, I figured maybe we should stretch to more than one since they're so short (though as you note there are some issues that some people will have re: aquiring them).
My current thoughts are to stick with a standalone novel after BFC, just so we return it to an accessible state for a month (i.e. not the middle of a trilogy or something hard to get hold of). I'm also leery of making judgements about what we ought to discuss when we've only had one thread so far. But don't worry Striker - I absolutely haven't forgotten about your YJK suggestion and actually think it'll be really interesting in context with the later EU.
As I noted, I'm planning on doing a rough show-of-hands vote/discussion here in a few months to discuss the options for the few months after that, and I was actually already planning to ask people what they thought of doing some YJK stuff. I was thinking of suggesting Jedi Sunrise, the collection of Lightsabers, Darkest Knight and Jedi Under Siege?
As I said, I'm not sure we'll get to it immediately after BFC, but don't worry, it is still on my list-of-requests.

I know I've also suggested Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter as a good standalone.

Jedi Sunrise would be good, if we did Jedi Shadow first. <_< I dunno, I'm wary of doing the second half of a "season" of YJK without first doing the first half. >_>

My vague recollection is that the books are fairly good at standing on their own, or at least providing in-book recaps? I was suggesting the second half because I know that Striker very much wants to do Lightsabers, and this would give us the conclusion to the first series if not the introduction.
But Striker is our resident YJK expert - would Jedi Sunrise work reasonably well as a standalone, or would it provide complications for those who haven't read the first three books?
Also since there seems to be a fair bit of interest here right now, we may as well start discussing post-BFC options, if no one minds planning that far ahead? At least to get a rough idea of the "front runners"?
Going through the thread, I'm thinking that the following books all have the potential for good reading in the back-half of 2008:
- Truce at Bakura - very overlooked and potentially interesting reading surrounding Leia coming to terms with her newfound identity.
- Cloak of Deception - given ace reviews by nearly all, and would be nice to delve into the PT-era.
- Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter - again, a chance to delve into the PT, but action rather than political.
- YJK - see above for discussions as to which, but it might be nice at some point to read something other than an adult novel?
- Lando Novels - eventually I'd quite like to consider doing the first Lando novel, but I think that I may be the only one interested in this, so it's probably something for further in the future.
I know there were a couple of other suggestions in the thread - Dark Forces novellas, CoPL, the Bounty Hunter Wars - I haven't forgotten about them, I just figured that we have quite a variety of options up there form a bunch of different IU eras and publishing eras, to be getting on with for now. If you vehemently disagree with me, of course, state your case!
So - I have my own opinions on what we should do next, of course, but I'm absolutely willing to be swayed by you guys. Which book do you think we should put in the line-up for September, and any reasons why?
I'm tentatively thinking a PT book for September, possibly followed by YJK or TAB?
Hav - as mastermind behind this monster, I'd obviously like to hear what you have to say on the matter?

I'd actually be very willing to look at YJK. And RK may be the expert, but I know the series fairly well myself. Jedi Sunrise would work just fine on its own. If nothing else, KJA did do a good job of making each novel stand alone fairly well. That particular trio is definitely the closest trio in the entire series, too, in terms of how closely each book fits together both in terms of plot and character narrative. And, KJA being KJA, the backstory is fairly well elaborate each and every book, so he catches you up.
I'd also love to reread the Lando stuff.

My recommendation for discussion would be the Thrawn Trilogy or the original Dark Empire.

Eh... Charles... did you miss the part where the emphasis is on less-discussed or less popular books/entries?
