STAR WARS
Legacy of the Force: Invincible
Troy Denning

May 13, 2008

No war can last forever. Now, in the long and punishing battle between the defiant champions of the New Jedi Order and the juggernaut that is the Galactic Alliance, the endgame is finally at hand.

The rebel cause is losing ground under the twin blows of Admiral Gilad Pellaeon’s assassination and the death of Mara Jade Skywalker. At the same time, the Galactic Alliance, with the extraordinary power and dark brilliance of newly ascendant Sith Lord Darth Caedus at its helm, may be unstoppable. Tormented and torn between the call of duty and the thirst for vengeance, Luke has searched the Force and beheld an unspeakable vision of the galaxy enslaved under tyranny more monstrous than even Palpatine’s. Now it seems that the last, best hope lies in mobilizing the scattered Jedi for one decisive search-and-destroy mission. The objective: eliminate Darth Caedus.

It’s a plan that will be as difficult and dangerous to execute as it is daring. For Caedus is a scion of both the Skywalker and Solo bloodlines whose command of the Force surpasses even that of his grandfather Darth Vader. There is only one who is bound by destiny to stand against him in what will surely be a duel to the death, only one with an outside chance of bringing down the dark lord who was once Jacen Solo.

The furious final moments between power and peace are here, and whoever confronts Darth Caedus will decide the outcome–and the fate of those left standing.

And now, those spoilers. You can find the various summaries that are now online though this story at the main site.

As to the plotline, the persistent message of the blurbs is this: Luke is caught between his desire for revenge and his sense of Jedi responsibility, and it seems to be Jaina's destiny to confront Darth Caedus.

Mention is now being made of some more details: after Luke sees a vision suggesting a tyranny worse than Palpatine's, he sends the Jedi after Caedus - and Jaiina will be backed up on her mission by Han and Leia, and Zekk and Jag.

I guess the first question (apart from why Kyp and Lowie seem to have no roles in Team Jaina any more tongue ) is how reliable the plot details on the Science Fiction Book Club website are.

This summary is clearly based in part on the same basic information as the others; and its author seems to have read the preview chapter in the previous novel as well; but it also makes uncorroberated claims that there will be:

1.) a counter-attack against the Imperial conquest of the Roche Asteroid Belt depicted in the preview chapter

2.) an attack on the new Jedi base at the edge of the Hapes Cluster, named here as "Shedu Maad".

There was also something weird about Luke masking Jaina with his own image... though I could see that leading to much comedy with Jaina, Jag and Zekk.

I'm really interested in what part Luke will play in Jacen's death/defeat/redemption.

As for Jacen's final fate, I'm calling it first: he'll pull a Vader and die while saving Allana.

Well we know he survives because he later does the wild thing with someone.

The vision Luke sees of tyranny worst than Palpatine, is it possible he is seeing Krayt's Empire from Legacy? Caedus will most likely die but appear really invincible in this book.

Hmmmm i wonder what this vision is that luke sees??
Could this possibly mean Caedus survives??
i know it is just a vision-but it is nice to see the bad guys win, makes it more interesting.
With the force spirits of Luke and Mara showing up in the Legacy comic series,I assume
Luke's death will be dealt with in a novel in the sometime near future...

Well naturally she survives. She's not even seen most of the time.

Its been quite a few months since the last good Star Wars books, let's hope Invincible at least goes out with a bang. Allana probably survives, as does Ben, since Hapes hasn't ripped itself apart by the Legacy era and the existence of Cade Skywalker, though the Legacy comic writers still haven't shared too many details on whether Cade really is descended from Ben. But one Skywalker kid is enough, I hope. If there were multiple children of Luke, then I'd be worried for their fate, look at how the Solos have turned out.

Hm, one month before release. Hopefully spoilers will start popping up within a week or two. Unfortunately, they've probably learnt not to post online versions of the book by now.

Still don't care much for that cover, but at least Jaina finally gets a LotF cover.

why send Han and Leia though??Surely they cant talk him out of it now!!!
hopefully Leias' vision of Jacen and her flying out a window on a spaceship will come to fruition.
I just cant believe they would send ALL of those characters...Why not just the Jedi
to save the galaxy??
I really hope Caedus survives and strikes down jaina....but then again,i guess all the Mandalore training and fett weaving in and out of the novels would be for nothing!!

Why else would Mara visit Cade if it wasn't a descendant of Ben? Otherwise it would have no relationship to her.

It's a family affair. This is their last chance to make Jacen see reason. When there is a very mentally ill person, it's best if the whole family confronts that person. If Jacen doesn't see reason, I know how Jaina can stop him. Kiss him. The shock and disgustingness of his sister's lips on his would cause him to have a heart attack.
