McE, have I been telling you Del Rey has it since the Traviss/Miller books showed up? Because I've been thinking it. Even if those are TCW and on a separate contract, why would they sign with Del Rey again? (Unless it's a consolation prize, which seems kinda silly. Movie/TV tie-in = buckets of money.) I'm not 100% sure, but if I was a betting woman...
Anyway, a bit more on topic: I don't remember enough of Crispin's Han trilogy to be sure, but did she cover the bet and how Han won the ship? That's my best guess at the plot...

Oh oh, Del Rey does own Randomhouse. Look out, SW fans, DR may have another character death in mind! The Falcon!!!
Is it just me or are all the future publications from SW either set in the prequel era or for Young Adults? Notice there are no plans for books set after LOTF. Could it be DR figured out that they wrote themselves into a corner?

I heard that Del Rey controls the weather and wrote the screenplay to Glitter!

Or... maybe it's just that nothing is officially announced yet.

Crispin did cover the bet, Dunc.
Though I pray to god almighty that this book finds a way to retcon In the Beginning in.

Because they're coming out this year, and the "mainline" contract doesn't expire until the end of 2008 (or possibly later--depends on how Patterns of Force's delay affects things). I would expect said mainline contract to have an exclusivity clause; that is, they could add other books with Del Rey via a side contract (like the Republic Commando novels or Clone Wars ones), but LFL wouldn't be able to go to somebody else, at least for the adult SF market covered by the current Del Rey contract.
If both The Force Unleashed and Order 66 were on separate contracts like the other game tie-ins (Galaxies and the first three Republic Commando novels), then we're actually short a hardcover this year. This could be fulfilling that last title on the old contract.

Pretty sure she did, yeah. Though I don't think that Lando's early days with it have been covered yet...

Could this really be an unofficial sequel to Dark Lord, featuring some of the characters from it?

So... has it occurred to anyone else that the Falcon has recently-- courtesy of RotS-- gained something of a (implicitly interesting) history pre-Lando and pre-Han?

Me.
Seriously, I think I'd be most interested with something like that, versus another Lando or Han story.

Hey, you can never have enough Lando or Han stories! Especially now with Lando Jr. (or mini-Tendra) coming along.
Anyway, if I remember right, Lando saves Han from an encounter with Boba Fett, and asks Han for piloting lessons as a favor, as he had recently acquired the Millenium Falcon. Then its onto the Lando Calrissian Adventures (in the Tion Hegemony or somewhere like that), then Lando meets up with Han at Bespin, and loses the Falcon to Han, then most of Han's history from that point is relatively well-covered in the Han Solo trilogy then onward to the Rebellion.
As long as it isn't retconned as being linked to Revan, or Anakin (Skywalker) in anyway, hopefully. I'm already annoyed that they retconned the Banite order as starting from a Revan Holocron (haven't we had enough of that Luke wannabe?). Anyway, by LotF, the Falcon should be about... 60 years old at least? Or 80, or a century maybe.
I think SotG 2007 mentioned that the Falcon had gone through plenty of owners, had been upgraded, hijacked, stolen, etc., over the years, until Lando got it. I would also be more interested in what the Falcon's current specs are these days (LotF). During the NJO days, it was still somewhat easily taking on coralskipers and such, and it survived getting repeatedly blasted by a long-range turbolaser, and was still repaired pretty quickly. During the OT trilogy, the Falcon literally was very fast, but forty years later, not sure how much of an edge it still has. Then again, maybe its best left vague.
Still looking forward to the book, or rather, a printed copy of it. I prefer words to audio. Oh well, there's always Wookieepedia, but its just not the same as owning the work itself.
And we have at least two versions of Lando losing the ship to Han. There's the Han Solo trilogy version, where Lando mentioned he left the Falcon at his used starship lot on Nar Shardda, and rode to Bespin in luxury, then at the final table, Lando put a voucher for any ship on his lot, failed to bluff Han into losing, and Han claimed the Falcon. Lando wasn't happy about it, but he didn't really have a choice. And then there was that Star Wars Tales comic that showed Lando losing the ship to Han and probably doesn't match up with the book and probably isn't canon, but I just remember it because it was so iconic, of Han and Chewie finally getting the ship of their dreams.

The date in the Wookieepedia article gives a 60 BBY construction date, making the ship 100 years old in LOTF, but the date isn't sourced so I can't say how accurate it is.

Aw shucks! Thanks.
As already mentioned all the recently announced books are still released in 2008 so poss not pointing to confirmation of the new contract for del rey.
I believe I've seen audio books in the listings before the papercopy. can't think which ones off hand.

Any James Luceno book is welcome, and to have it be about one of my favorite ships is even better! I am rereading Labyrinth of Evil right now and it is fantastic.
Anyway, why would Lucasfilm want to have another book publisher? Is there something Del Rey did? I feel like I missed something there.

From LFL's point of view, there probably wouldn't be any reason to change publisher, except if some other company would offer a better deal for them. For tie-in books, DR's SW books sell well.
But on the point of view of many fans, there's several reasons to change publisher. My favourite reasons, for example, are called Anakin Solo, Chewbacca, Mara Jade and Darth Caedus.

Fair enough, and I am not really into much EU post-Return of the Jedi besides The Thrawn Trilogy and Duology, but last I checked a lot of people seemed to be enjoying Legacy of the Force. Besides, wouldn't it be the writers and Lucasfilm who approves characters, not Del Rey?

I think it is, in theory at least, a co-operation between authors, DR and LFL, with LFL having the final word.
