Eh...I may be a sucker, but I've got no qualms about forking over $50 AUD for a Stover book based on a throwaway WEG mention.

Of course, if I had any understanding of the concept of patience, I'd just get it from Amazon, for...

(looks up price)

$17.82 USD. I may have to re-adjust my game plan. plain

Having Dave Seely do the cover for this novel too would help ease the pain... grin wink

I think if we had a cover, any cover for MF the kids might be a tad more stoked for this novel. SoM gives us the Shadowspawn image which feels like Del Rey is sayin' "Cool, huh? Yeah, we know. Well, you're going to have to wait longer!"

From what I have gathered is that the LOTF series sold pretty. It makes sense to release this book sooner, .......since Sue might be telling us within the next month the contents of the new contract, and in that contract they might have a new series with the big three starting next year. It's either that, or Stover needed soem more time with the story. In the end, really whats the difference? One has a hidden enemy attacking the force and bidding his time, and the other, well he decides to become a new emperoer and the gang have to race to stop him or the glalaxy will be lost kinda deal.

I'm sorry, I just don't like the idea of SW with a little kid tagging along for the ride. Anakin Skywalker in TPM was pushing it and Allana's even younger than he was I believe. I guess they are trying to work in the younger readers or something, but I find Allana to be a bore so far and I'd rather she just go away to train or something and come back when she's older. I feel like we've already seen the Solos raising kids plot before and I'm not at all excited to see them running around with another tyke. And so help me if somebody kidnaps Allana...

I wonder who the antagonist of Millennium Falcon will be? Will it be the Yuuzhan Vong returning? Lord Shadowspawn returning? Assanj Ventress returning? Or an entirely new enemy? Since it will be a threat that has already launched an assault on the Jedi and the Force.

Maybe the threat will be self-doubt? Maybe Han and Leia will question their parenting abilities because of Jacen's fall. Maybe Luke will doubt his teaching ability of his students. Maybe Jaina will doubt her love for her brother b/c she never tried to redeem him, forcing herself into a self-imposed exile in the IR with Jag and the idea of starting a new order free of restrictions imposed by an old way of thinking that Jaina is struggling to understand and come to terms with.

I'd like it to be a droid rebellion. That's about the only trick that LFL hasn't pulled yet and droids can't use the Force anyways (unless you count the Iron Knights and JKs).

OOM-9 could lead it.

He was only deactivated at the end of TPM, if you'll remember. What's to stop him from coming back to life and leading his droid brothers to their rightful place as rulers of the galaxy? tongue

First Look: Millennium Falcon Novel

August 5, 2008

Climb aboard, buckle up, and prepare to jump to hyperspace for the ultimate flight on the ship that launched a thousand fates!

Two years have passed since the defeat of Darth Caedus, the former Jacen Solo. For a grieving Han and Leia, the shadow of their son's tragic downfall still looms large. But Jacen's own bright and loving daughter, Allana, offers a ray of hope for the future as she thrives in her grandparents' care. The eager, inquisitive and Force-strong girl makes a curious discovery aboard her grandfather's beloved spacecraft -- the much-overhauled but ever-dependable Millennium Falcon. The Solo family then finds itself at a new turning point, about to set out on an odyssey into uncertain territory, untold adventure, and unexpected rewards.

To Han, who knows every bolt, weld, and sensor of the Falcon as if they were parts of himself, the strange device Allana shows him is utterly alien. But its confounding presence -- and Allana's infectious desire to unravel its mystery -- are impossible to dismiss. The only answer lies in backtracking into the past on a fact-finding expedition to retrace the people, places, and events in the checkered history of the vessel that's done everything from making the Kessel Run "in less than twelve parsecs" to helping topple an evil Empire.

From the moment the Falcon broke loose from a Corellian assembly line like an untamed creature with a will of its own, it seemed destined to seek out trouble. It wasn't long before the feisty YT-1300 freighter went from shuttling cargo to smuggling contraband. But it's a fateful rendezvous on Coruscant, at the explosive height of the Republic/Separatist uprising, that launches a galaxywide cat-and-mouse game whose newest players are Han, Leia, Allana and C-3PO. And they're not alone: Crime lords, galactic pirates, rogue politicians and fortune hunters alike loom at every turn of the quest -- each with his or her own desperate stake in the Millennium Falcon's most momentous mission.

Through the years and across the stars, from the Rim Worlds to points beyond, the race will lead them all to a final standoff for a prize some will risk everything to find -- and pay any cost to possess.

Star Wars: Millennium Falcon is by James Luceno, the best-selling author of Dark Lord, Cloak of Deception, The Unifying Force and Labyrinth of Evil. It is due out in hardcover from Del Rey Books in October, 2008. Here's a look at the cover art, with jacket designed by David Stevenson and art by John Van Fleet.

Cover's a bit blah, but the premise sounds good, especially to those looking for less galaxy wide threats and greater use of underworld elements.

That's like, one of the worst adult SW novel covers ever... it's like something thrown together for a cheap kids book movie tie-in ("The Millennium falcon Coloring Book Adventure!"). Why couldn't they get the artist who did the X-Wing books to do this cover? Or even Dave Seeley who did Enemy Lines?

Seriously, *I* could photoshop that thing in an hour! Just need one of the hi-rez hubble shots from NASA's website, one stock photo of the Falcon we've seen a thousand times in 30 years and a couple stock photos of ISDs, rotate the ISDs a few degrees, toss in two white lines with exterior glow colored green and voila! The planet is probbaly the only original element (and I suspect even that might be just taken from the art elements of an Atlas or other map-related project).

Beyond that, I do like the description and how the hook is tied to the Falcon's cameo in ROTS. This sounds like it'll be fun. And Luceno's reliable and obviously has been key to the ROTS era thus far.
