This thread is endorsed by Rogue_Follower of famine fame.
Well, that was a great idea from Beccatoria, to start up a book club. Anyone interested in doing a similar thing with comics?
If so... Group name suggestions... Book suggestions... Let's see 'em.
I was thinking of tackling them chronologically, but if anyone has a better idea...

Say what? Can you imagine the outcry as a books thread discusses....comics? The literati would never get over it!

Well, to play off as a counterpart to the 181st group, and given it's roots in the comics, why not Rogue Squadron Rebel Discussion, or something along those lines?
Or, just go with "Our Hats Off To Ya: The Comics Discussion Group"

To answer Horsey's question, yes, I am/was accepting recommendations for comics to do in the 181st as long as they fit the criteria of the dicussion group - namely to give some attention to the EU material that isn't "big name stuff". I know that Crimson Empire has been brought up as a suggestion.
However, as we're only doing one work a month and there's a backlog of novel suggestions to get through, I couldn't promise when we'd get to them or a steady stream of comics discussion.
I mean, basically it comes down to this -
1) I'm in favour of anything that promotes awesome Lit discussion, and comics discussion is certainly something we should be encouraging, so if there's interest in something like this, I'm in favour of it.
2) If it doesn't happen, I am absolutely committed to including comics in the 181st.

I'd definitely be in favor. Crimson Empire, some of the older Star Wars Ongoing stuff... it'd be worth getting into.
I recommend calling it the Rogue Squadron Discussion group to serve as a fitting counterpoint for the 181st, since only the Rogues could successfully take on the 181st and win on a regular basis.

Are you, Sir, attempting to promote a rivalry? PSHAW! We shall work together! Like that awesome Baron Fel joins Rogue Squadron comic!
Why fight each other when together we could be UNBEATABLE! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

Later on, we can have a Silly Squadron, to discuss children's books. First up, Jar Jar's Mistake, a piece of literature beyond reproach. An excerpt:
"Is this your frog?" Sebulba asks Jar Jar.
Jar Jar is very, very quiet.
Sebulba pushes Jar Jar down.
Jar Jar closes his eyes. He does not want to see Sebulba's big fists. "Stop!" someone says.
Just like Tarkin and Daala! ^_^

And, when it's a classic comic, it can be the "Action Jaxxon Group"

So... Beccatoria, let me get this straight:
1 outclasses 2, right?
Wouldn't wanna be stepping on any toes here.
Action Jaxxon, awesome, that gets my vote.

Becca - no rivalry inducing statements intended. I simply meant to imply that I'm hoping this thread will be as stellar as yours, and only a Rogue Squadron could ever hope to keep up. Besides, had the 181st still been around during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, they definitely would have teamed up.
So we can call this an alliance against ignorance of the EU?

I think this is a great idea. I've been (slowly) making my way through a bunch of the comics that I missed the first time around. Primarily the Republic series. I'd totally be up for this though.

SuperWatto, do you have a plan for how you'd like to go about doing this? Walking through TPB-level arcs, or what?

I, personally, would suggest TPB-leve arcs. It makes it more accessable for the general audience, since the vast majority of us don't collect individual issues, if you follow current market trends.
