The meaning of the vision isn't entirely clear yet. It's probably not Vader. The seers see a figure in the environment suit striking them down, and they believe that it's a Sith. They saw the suit as being symbolic of their Padawans, who would soon be wearing the suit. And Zayne, as one of their Padawans, has arguably led to the Covenant's death and destruction and brought about the rise of the Sith by saving Alek. We've also seen Jarael wear the suit, and she may have some kind of link with the Sith. We've also seen Alek wear the suit, and he obviously becomes the Sith Lord Darth Malak, leading to the most direct link between the Sith and the suited figure. I think Gryph has been inside the suit at some point too, and he's played a very significant role in destroying the Covenant. JJM's very good at layering this sort of stuff and giving you multiple possibilities.

Some people have speculated that Zayne is a Skywalker ancestor. This has absolutely no empirical grounds (other than the fact that, if Zayne has kids and they have kids, 4000 years later, there are going to be a lot of people descended from him, and his genes aren't going to mean a heck of a lot) and is just idle speculation of the "Oooh, this would be cool" variety. Cassus Fett is obviously intended to be a Jango Fett ancestor, at least as of his introduction in background material for the game -- just a little tie-in name-drop. However, I don't believe he's ever been actually established as Jango's ancestor -- it could be that he's just Jango's very-great grand-uncle, or fourth cousin a hundred times removed, or no relation at all.

Did you ever play the KOTOR computer games? Because the character in the suit the Covenant saw is one of the villains there... He dons the suit for a scene in the second TPB.

Unfortunately, no I have not played the games. I heard they are pretty cool, but I have a PS3 sad .

The KOTOR games should expand their horizons and make a version for my console!! praying . I guess I could always play on the computer, but I'm just not that into PC gaming.

Thanks for the info though, you too Havac.

Honestly, Invasion is your best bet in finding any comics with the Solo kids. We've all been clamoring to see what many NJO-FOTJ characters look like outside of novel covers. It might be a while before we have Ben in a comic. He was born during the Vong war. We might get baby pictures though. wink

I think Dark Empire II and Empire's End from the mid-nineties has a couple of flashes of the Solo kids as toddlers or something but it was so fleeting I remember next to nothing.

I have decided to actually read some of the EU myself (my only other exposure being the cartoons, Ewok movies, and Holiday Special), and wanted to start with the adult-level novels. Most of the people I talked to suggested starting with the Thrawn trilogy, but I was thinking of something more systematic, like chronological order. I was thinking about reading the books in the following order (broken up by era; those in stars are film adaptations that I won't be reading):

Path of Destruction

Rule of Two
Cloak of Deception
Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter
*The Phantom Menace*
Rogue Planet
Outbound Flight
The Approaching Storm
*Attack of the Clones*
Hard Contact
Shatterpoint
The Cestus Deception
Triple Zero
True Colors
Battle Surgeons
Jedi Healer
Jedi Trial
Dark Rendezvous
*The Clone Wars*
Wild Space
No Prisoners
Labyrinth of Evil
*Revenge of the Sith*
Order 66
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader
Jedi Twilight
Street of Shadows
Patterns of Force
The Paradise Snare
Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu
Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon
Lando Calrissian and the Starcave of ThonBoka
The Hutt Gambit
The Force Unleashed
Han Solo at Stars' End
Han Solo's Revenge
Han Solo and the Lost Legacy
Rebel Dawn
Death Star

*A New Hope*
Allegiance
Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine
Splinter of the Mind's Eye
*The Empire Strikes Back*
Shadows of the Empire
*Return of the Jedi*

Truce at Bakura
The Mandalorian Armor
Slave Ship
Hard Merchandise
Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor
Rogue Squadron
Wedge's Gamble
The Krytos Trap
The Bacta War
Wraith Squadron
Iron Fist
Solo Command
The Courtship of Princess Leia
Tatooine Ghost
Heir to the Empire
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command
Isard's Revenge
Jedi Search
Dark Apprentice
Champions of the Force
I, Jedi
Children of the Jedi
Darksaber
Planet of Twilight
Starfighters of Adumar
The Crystal Star
Before the Storm
Shield of Lies
Tyrant's Test
The New Rebellion
Ambush at Corellia
Assault at Selonia
Showdown at Centerpoint
Specter of the Past
Vision of the Future
Survivor's Quest

Vector Prime
Onslaught
Ruin
Hero's Trial
Jedi Eclipse
Balance Point
Conquest
Rebirth
Star by Star
Dark Journey
Rebel Dream
Rebel Stand
Traitor
Destiny's Way
Remnant
Refugee
Reunion
The Final Prophecy
The Unifying Force
The Joiner King
The Unseen Queen
The Swarm War

Betrayal
Bloodlines
Tempest
Exile
Sacrifice
Inferno
Fury
Revelation
Invincible
Millenium Falcon
Outcast
Omen

Does this sound like a good idea or not? I realize that some books will be released during the course of my read-through, but I'll pick those up after I'm done.

The thing about chronological order is that you miss a lot of context by doing it that way; you can be left wondering where concepts are coming from, or what becomes of these guys, or who the heck this guy is and why he's so important. I wouldn't expect it to be a smooth reading experience. You can certainly do it, but I'd really recommend starting in a manner that's a little less ambitious, but will give you better context. Starting with the Thrawn Trilogy, the Bantam standbys, and expanding out from there. Still, chronological order isn't bad, and if you really want to it won't hurt you much. The only thing is that I would never, ever, wish Path of Destruction on anyone as their first Star Wars novel.

The Solo kids are also in a flashback in the Chewbacca comic.

Agreed. I've long been a fan of going in publication date order.

I'm on an EU marathon myself, started with the OT novelizations, then the classic SotE and the Han Solo and Lando Calrissian Adventure trilogies, and now I'm trudging through the Bantam novels. Almost done, though--I'm on X-Wing, and the only thing after that are the Tales anthologies. grin

Also, another problem with going in chronological order is that you could reach, say, the post-RotJ era, but whoops! Del Rey releases a new book in the Clone Wars era, so you have to backtrack. Not an issue if you're going in publication order. tongue

I did read the novels more or less chronologically (except for the Darth Bane stuff, which I didn't read at all), and it was ok. Sure, you miss hints, but since you don't know you miss them, it isn't a problem. And it's kind of fun to suddenly discover that officer No. 27 who was doing a forgettable cameo somewhere suddenly becomes an important warlord or whatever.

I was looking through the old Lostworlds thread and there's a short story mentioned called The Art of Infiltration that was supposed to be in AJ #17 and was later included in Gamer #9, but I don't recall seeing it and I don't have my issues with me. Can anyone confirm if the story is in there?

Chronological order isn't a bad way to go- there are certain benefits to having things being setup for payoff later, instead of knowing events and seeing how they came to fruition. Both ways have merit. The only trick with chronological order is it, depending on your view, takes a bit longer to get to the "meat" of things.

Also, as an aside, regardless if do chronological order or not:

Do yourself a favor and be sure not to skip that one- it's one of, if not the best, SW novel out there.

Er, Alien Exodus was canceled a looong time ago. And you don't have to read everything exactly in publication order. It's probably best to put all the books from a specific trilogy or series together. And the way the books in the Bantam line were released were a bit strange chronologically. All we're really saying is to read the Thrawn Trilogy first just to get a feel for the EU. The Han Solo Adventures books, while great, don't give you a good introduction to the rest of the EU. And also, don't feel obligated to read every book. Your wallet isn't gonna be happy, and not every book is a good read. Just start with the Thrawn Trilogy and then take some recommendations from the first page of this thread and work your way from there.

I know Alien Exodus was canceled, but the two chapters that were written and the outline for the rest have been posted online, so I figured, "Why not?"

EDIT: And don't worry. Money won't be an issue.

Okay, totally random and unrelated questions, but what does GFFA stand for? I've seen it everywhere but have no clue what it means.

Secondly, I'm reading the Crispin novels right now. I'm on the second one, but I have heard that there's another Han Solo Trilogy that takes place in between the books I'm reading?
