I loved the Jabiim arc. It's they key "good guys lose"/Republic loss of the entire Clone Wars, so far as they've been told. And the Hett issue is great.

As for the other two trades- if your LCS doesn't have them, ask them to order them for you. It should be easy enough for them to get it to you within 2 weeks (less, depending on how they have their Diamond shipping arrangements setup).

Required NJO books. I might finish Vision of the Future this year yet... and hopefully after that I'm skipping to NJO. Sense there are lots of books in the series I was wondering if there are some that are must reads, some recommended ones, and some bad ones. Must reads being the ones that you need to help understand the story and recommended based on how good the book is. From what I read I get the impression that the series seems to be hit or miss. So.. yeah

Reww, I have just the list for you. I've honed it for years. But I've reposted it so many darn times that it's beginning to look bad. So, I'm going to link you to the page on this thread where I last posted my Essential NJO Books List. Or you could just go back one page to where I last posted it. tongue wink

I'm working my way through the NJO, and so far I am halfway through Conquest. Since these novels came out so close to the release of the prequel movies, is there ever any references made to the PT movies in the books? I noticed that Naboo is on the galaxy map in the front of the books starting with Balnce Point (I think?). But I haven't heard any mention of it yet.

Hi guys and girls,

Guess what, I'm new! I live in Holland and read the novels in English, as I like reading in English and love Star Wars! dancing

The prequel era interests me the most, particularly the 19 years period between Episodes III and IV, so I am reading mostly novels from this era. I have nearly all paperbacks at home (also of other eras), so it will take me a number of years to read it all (while also reading other fantasy novels, not SW-related). I already read some novels from the New Republic Era, but nothing yet of the X-wing Series. The last novel I have read is the Jedi Academy Trilogy, nothing beyond this point yet. I will wait until I have read the most important stuff before this trilogy and then continue in time towards the Legacy Era.

It's all very exciting, but a lot to digest as well! I check Wookieepedia a lot for reference and thus get spoiled a lot unfortunately. Oh well, no biggie.

There really isn't much from the PT until you get to the Dark Nest trilogy. There are probably a few throwaway lines in the NJO referencing planets or events, but otherwise the only thing I can think of is a few of the PT locations on Coruscant (e.g. parts of the Old Jedi Temple). Once you get to the DNT you'll start to feel a stronger PT presence.

Darth_Phoenixdude, have you checked out The Coruscant Nights Trilogy? It takes place right after Order 66. And try the X-wing books. They are ever so popular here in Lit and are quite possibly the strongest series in the EU.

not sure what PT is, but I was looking at the wiki about books and was reading about the Black Fleet Crisis and it says that Luke goes to his mothers homeworld, can someone explain that to me? Thanks

Also not sure why I'm gonna ask this now, but how is Dark Nest, I think I mostly have seen people say its good, but someone in another topic referenced it and said lol so was kind of lost on if it was good or bad. Also read somewhere that Leia shows potential there?

PT = Prequel Trilogy

In the Black Fleet Crisis, Luke meets a Fallanassi named Akanah who tells him that his mother was also a Fallanassi (which we obviously know isn't true). Luke goes out looking for his mother with Akanah but in the end he figures out that Akanah is just using him.

The DNT is alright but it's pretty split among the fandom. Some people really love it but others hate what it did to Jacen and the rest of his generation. It's one of those things you can't really take anybody's word on, you'll just have to find out for yourself. And yes, in the last two books Leia apprentices herself to Saba Sebatyne to become a Jedi Knight.

Oh, and I echo Manisphere's comment about both the Coruscant Nights trilogy and the X-wing novels.

Didn't read Black Fleet so someone else will help you with that one. It is strangely popular around here but I found it a bit inaccessible.

I loved the DNT. Thing is you have to love the writer's style to enjoy these books. Denning is a pretty visceral guy. He loves carnage, fights, blood etc. One thing Troy Denning does well though is keep the story barreling along.

There are references to the Prequels. Artoo is hiding some ancient info on Anakin and Padme, which is a treat. Leia gets her Jedi on like she never has before or since. But some find the bug story un-Star Wars like. Yes, a lot of what Denning does is over the top but then, what are you reading the EU for? I'd say give The Joiner King a chance. I think this was the last post ROTJ series I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Personally, I liked the majority of The Joiner King but the other two books just didn't do it for me. Pick up TJK and decide whether or not the story interests you.

Hi Darth_Phoenixdude,
Have you read Han Solo trilogy? It's not connected to the prequels, but the "Dark Times" period is pictured very fine. And along with the X-wing series mentioned here, it's the best non-Jedi read available (although I don't know how you feel about it).
Tatooine Ghost is also a nice read and its references to the prequel era are the most interesting part.

As for being spoiled, that's a small problem for me too. I started reading EU with the LotF series(not intentionally, they were just the first books I found), and got spoiled a lot of course. Now I'm reading chronologically through almost everything that is there. I hope that spoilers from LotF will not affect my fun of NJO when I get to it. Wookiepedia is the resource I use carefully, trying not to read anything outside of what I need happy

Hi vadimk,

Which one? There is one that was published about 30 years ago and there was in the 90's. I have not yet read the old trilogy yet, but I read the first book of the 90's Han Solo trilogy and enjoyed it very much. But I went back in time and am reading the rest of the period between Episodes III and IV chronologically as much as possible. I also read the Scholastic series of Jude Watson and now the new one by Alex Wheeler, which I enjoy.

I get confused with all the names of all the species, so I check Wookieepedia a lot for that.

The period leading up to Episode IV has been such a mystery for such a long time, that's what I enjoy the most reading about.

I thought it was just me, but I also think that this series is the best one I have read so far. I started with the Med Star Duology, as I read on Wookieepedia that characters from that Duology also star in the Coruscant Nights Trilogy. I thought both Med Star books rocked! (Den Duhr, Kaird the Nediji and I-5YQ rule!) I finished the first part of the Coruscant Nights Trilogy recently and loved it too. However, I am reading the books chronologically now, so the first 5 Jude Watson novels of the Last Of The Jedi series are up first before I can read the second book of the Coruscant Nights Trilogy.
