I just finished the Thrawn Trilogy and then decided I'm going to spend the rest of my life slowly going through the books in publication order. I'm sure some of you have tried and some lived through it, but I figured I'd come in here to see what people think of that idea.

Also, is it going to overwhelm me to death if I try to read the comics and books in publication order?

It may, and there are some that were published concurrently.

It also depends if you want to delve into Marvel land. As while there is good stuff in there (like Lumiya), there is a lot to turn your brain to bantha poodoo.

I didn't mind Jaxxon as much as the pantless pirates. wink

Publication order is a little trickier since you have some multi-book series released concurrently with others, but it can provide interesting results. I'm more of a chronological order fan, but it's not the only way to go.

I'm not new to the EU, but I haven't read anything post-Legacy yet. I was wondering what the best reading order is for the FotJ stuff between the two novels, Precipice, and the postcards.

Precipice is obviously the first chronologically, but it doesn't really matter when you read it as long as you do so before reading Omen. The postcards all take place during Outcast, when Ben and Luke are on Dorin.

I'm new to these forums, and I was looking through this thread. What are "Precipice" and the "post cards" that have been mentioned in the past couple posts? I don't think I have heard of them.

I am still waiting for Omen to come to our library, but I don't mind a few spoilers if they are necessary to explain.

Thanks.

Lost Tribe of the Sith: Precipice is an eBook by John Jackson Miller (author of the KotOR comics) that ties into FotJ. It takes place during the Great Hyperspace War around 5000BBY and basically shows the founding of the Lost Tribe of Sith. It's free and you can download it here.

The postcards were just short letters by Ben Skywalker to Jaina free for download on the Amazon, Barnes&Noble, and Borders websites. They were used to promote Outcast and each website had a different one. You can get them here:

I've been stalemated. I had this grand idea to read all the SW novels (with a few minor exclusions such as the Hambly stuff), and have gotten to book 3 in the NJO. I started feeling kind of blah about midway through Dark Tide II but got to the end finally. I figured I'd change pace and hit the Han Solo Trilogy before getting back to the NJO, only one problem, now I'm stuck midway through the Hutt Gambit. Its okay, but not as good as the first book, and as far as Han's history, well by now in my reading he's met Chewie and Lando, the only other thing I wanna see from this story is the famous Sabacc game, I just have'nt gotten that far yet. Its a struggle. My question is I have a few straggler novels mostly from the prequel era, and were wondering if they would be a good change. Both Shatterpoint and the Approaching Storm are still left unread on my shelf. I could'nt figure out where I would incorperate those into my reading and so they sat. Are either of these books worth a read during some SW downtime? I want to get back into the NJO, but the abscence of Han kinda sucks, but to get back into the NJO I have to ultmately finish the HST books now that I'm already halfway through. Confusing as it already seems, It's hard to believe I actually want to start another book from a different era just to kind of take a break. Anyone else get like this?

The Hutt Gambit gets much more interesting during the second half, but if you really want a change of pace Shatterpoint is a great book. It's not like most SW books, and it's not for everyone, but I thought it was great. It's a bit heavy on the philosophy as with most of Stover's books but that's what makes it so interesting. The Approaching Storm, I honestly wouldn't even bother with it. Not a great book at all.

I'm going to agree with Xicer, and say that the Hutt Gambit does get a lot more interesting once you really get into it. I will also agree that Shatterpoint is an exceptional read, and not your normal, everyday Star Wars story.

Personally, I kind of liked The Approaching Storm, but it was 2 years ago that I last read it, so maybe I should go back and reread it.

Shatterpoint is certainly worth reading. It's one of the most unusual and brilliant pieces of EU...

I also liked Approaching Storm very much, but it's slow. It relies on description and the feel of an utterly alien environment more than on action and reminded me of 19th century "exotic adventure" novels... So, not for everyone.

Quick question: Concerning Infinity's End and The Devaronian Version, why were these the only two story arcs in the entire Republic series that were never picked up into TPB format? (Yes, I know they'll eventually be put into an Omnibus, but that won't be until next year at the earliest.) It seems strange to leave out two story arcs like that randomly, especially Infinity's End, which is just as long as plenty other arcs that were soon collected. Were these two stories particularly unpopular or something, or just as not as important? Is there any official word, or at least any speculation?

@Cash: In addition to what the others above me said, if you really want to know, the big sabacc game between Han and Lando takes place at the beginning of the third book. Let that be your motivation to get through the second one. wink

I wasn't collecting back then but have read Infinity's End. It's pretty bad. It's really bad when you compare it to any of Ostrander's own Vos work. It plain doesn't fit with Twilight, Darkness, and Rite of Passage. I think the arc was so unpopular that they just didn't bother to turn it into a trade. As for the DV Version, it's only two issues in a story telling style that was utterly different than any of the other arcs surrounding it. I'm just assuming that with two humor based issues, there never really was a place to put it.

Starcrash, the one-shot, also hasn't been collected until the Menace Revealed Omnibus.

It seems like back in the early 00's and before, not every issue was put into trade format. Today, I can't see DH putting anything out that they don't plan to put in trade form no matter how it was received.
