Up until about a year ago, I used a blaster for an icon. It was a cool image.

Then I started posting in the Senate, and soon enough, I was yelling 'guns are bad, mkay' in the 'Do guns kill people or do people kill people?' thread... And someone (Jediflyer) pointed out to me I had to eat my icon tongue .

They even convinced me that guns ain't all bad, so who knows? I might change back to that one after Holland wins the Euro2008.

Good thread, Marine! Now explain your icon.

I think my icon is fairly self-explanatory for my near-seven years on the forums... wink

I have been a member of these boards for over five years. And not once I have changed my beloved Admiral Ackbar icon. happy

To me, it is a familiar face. Ackbar may be dead, his appearances in books/comics reduced, but so long as I draw breath Ackbar will remain my avatar.

ACKBAR IS BACK

I generally do associate certain avatars with certain posters. I really don't think I've managed to find a distinctive avatar for myself, yet, though I don't recall seeing anyone in the forums I post who use this same Cade icon. The only reason I wear a Cade icon is to show my loyalty to Legacy, my favorite character is actually Obi-Wan.

I've wanted someone to bring up the icon thing since I started posting:

I'm frequently changing icons. I don't think it makes anyone recognize me any more or less. I'm still pretty much a newbie so not many really even know me. I figure if anyone would know me it's cause of my odd username.

I kind of think it's a restless mind that needs to change icons frequently and I'm guilty of both. I'm always happy to see rumsmuggler change his icon cause he's been here forever so it doesn't look like such a newbie thing to do.

I do admire those that pick an icon and go with it for life but am comforted by oldbies like dizfactor who change from time to time.

There are just too many cool icons to stick with one for life. grin

Oh, and yeah. It's kind of not cool to use someone's established icon IMO.

For a time I simply used a lightsaber or two, then I found the Bond icon and it was perfect, imagine Bond as a Jedi:

"So he told me his plans for galactic domination and I made a cutting response."
"Which was?"
"Left him in pieces on the floor."

So Diz is an oldie, Rum's been here 'forever' so what does that make me?

I like Crimson Empire...and early on, I seemed to have to defend Crimson Empire quite a bit.

Even so, for a long time I would scan the latest icons to see if something else caught my fancy.

After a while...it just became me.
