Curious to see who everyone hear would consider their DREAM TEAM.
-12 book series right after Luceno's MF
-each get a hard cover etc
--Say the story is all about the IMP Knights being set up by Jaina & Tahiri or whatever etc. And the rift between the Empire & Imp Knight & GFFA & Luke's order & The Solo's right in the middle...
--So i'm very interested in everyones choice of writers, pick 4. In no order at all & they are all equal.. Say the last book is random or they draw straws etc to keep it equal.

Mine aren't as important(to me) as reading everyone elses & maybe even why. A great way to learn about who's who in the EU and who to look forward to in future books...My best friend & me discussed this recently about who we wish we coulda had in Legacy & who for a future series etc. So it got me thinking of who's on top of their game with certain things in certain scenerio's..

-For me it's
-Stover- Very clever & i read his books in less then 5 sittings guaranteed. I think i read Traitor in 3 sittings in 3 day! grr. I was soo pissed that i ruined the enjoyment of teh read.
-Greg Keye's I just love the imteresting ways he uses the force. Like the way Tahiri did something with the Oxygen that was choking the Vong out.
-I also recall Anakin & Vuo Rapung in the Yavin Jungle being very exciting. I thought the way it went down with Vuo being redeemed and how it gave all the Shamed-Ones hope to be pretty cool part of the NJO story..So anyways Keye's is & has been in my top whatever list since his Two NJO books.
---Tim Zahn--I love his detail in things & i love the way his plots always have a cool twist. example= In Outbound Flight i loved the way The Vagaari had the Droidika's on board then all of a sudden it was a slaughter laugh .. Stuff like that floats my boat. Plus He's kimda like my EU father. I reading SW & books as a whole with Zahn & HTTE trilogy. And i dragged it out for almost 8 months. I really enjoyed the three books. And his duology. I really enjoyed Luke & Mara in the underground tunnels with their guide, underneath the Hand Of Thrawn complex. I always liked how Luke & Mara's struggle in the caverns took half the book instead of just skipping the journey. Same way with Greg Keyes with Anakin & Vuo in Yavin Jungle. Fun times with the journey from A-B etc... Zahn's trilogy & duology both made me feel like i was watching a SW movie & i even put on The 1st 3 episodes & Shadows o' the EMpire's musci CD & put it on Random repeat when i read the duology and it worked. So i really look forward to something big from Zahn. Atleast bigger then Stormie's with morals etc
tongue
---Allston---I picked him hands down because of NJO Rebel Dream/Stand. His style & plots with Wedge & space battles are as elite as it gets. I know he has a Wedge poster in his office nerd . But Wedge becomes more interesting with AA. I agreed with him in the Legacy trailer and together we coulda taken Denning!

--My 4 all have in common that i can't put their books down & i always regret how i read fast & i get jealous at my friends who are still in the 1st half of the book. /bah But these four excell at keeping me sucked in.

--I'm dying to hear who likes Stackpole or Salvadore or who loves Mando just as much as her, or who likes newcomers like Drew Karpyshyn. Or maybe Jude Watson. There's no doubt whatsoever that her stories & style really flow. I almost put her in there. In fact i was just as excited to pick up a Last Of The Jedi book when they came out.. So again, curious not so much as who, but why..

I think for a series, you would have to get three or four authors, whose styles matched up a bit. Not that they need to be the same, just that they arent completely opposite either.

While I think Matthew Stover is the best author to write a Star Wars novel, I do not believe his style would mesh well with others, and therefore would not work in a series. I know he wrote Traitor, and it fit in the NJO, but it was one book, and look how different, though very good, it was from the others.

My dream team for a new series would be:

Luceno, Keyes and Sean Stewart.

Luceno, Stover, Stewart and Stackpole. We need a new lineupfor a series and these guys are it, if you ask me.

If there were going to be another 9+ book series, I would rather see it broken up more neatly into a number of interlocking trilogies written by individual authors. You could have, say, a Han-and-Leia-centric trilogy by Denning, a Mando-centric trilogy by Traviss, and a Jedi-centric trilogy by, I don't know, Luceno. All three would deal with the same series of events, but from different perspectives and with different casts, as opposed to the current pass-the-baton style, which is a trainwreck.

Tim Zahn: What dream team would be complete without the creator and guru of my most loved EU moments. Even more so if it involves the Imperial Remnant, really Zahn's creation and legacy for me. Maybe we'd even get Lando and Karrde....At least one of his characters isn't dead. frustrated

Michael P. Kube McDowell: Revisiting the Black Fleet Crisis made me realize just how excellent an author he is, particularly on the political end of things. If someone could make us see and understand the inner workings of the Imperial Remnant, its he.

R.A. Salvatore: Often over looked by EU fans he would bring a nice stlye to a series. Mara Jade vs Yomin Carr is a favorite One on One confrontation of mine. Salvatore does these one on one battles very well. Although he is somewhat looked down upon by some fans because "he killed Chewie", he did the act in an amazing way, showing Chewie to be the hero and loyal friend he was. It took a moon to take down Chewie, not a dart or a blaster. Salvatore simply understands what the word EPIC means.

John Ostrander: Included prehaps not as an author, but as an idea man. As we get closer to Legacy so much needs to fit together and I think John would add a lot to the overall continuity of the entire EU. If this is really to all fit together the Comics/Books/Games all need to be given the proper attention. john would bring a lot to the table even if his name never appears on a cover.

Zahn, Stackpole and Allston. Another names I'd include would be Keyes, Stewart and Walter Jon Williams, but the first three could do awesome things together. Stover should better do stand alone books, as well as Denning.

My utilisation of complex locution to ask what's more pathetic, fans who worship their
movie actors, or the actors who couldn't give a damn, is more a reflection of my own

If a book comes out - by any author - that the people above endorse, I might be interested again.

Zahn, Stackpole, Luceno and Keyes. Perhaps Stover if an extremely dark novel is required.

Here, here

I don't like the disjointed feel of the pass the baton style... but a group of trilogies, standalones and duologies that have an overall story arc I do like...

With that, I would like Denning, Stover, Luceno, Zahn & Stackpole. Travis can do a Mando-centric trilogy in there... as long as she doesn't touch the Jedi characters.... she overpowers Mandos and underpowers Jedi in comparison too much for my liking.... But I do like the Mandos so throw it in for hugs and giggles...

With that we can have a Rogue/Wraith centric war story from Stackpole... a Solo/Skywalker story from Denning, .... a crazy Force philosophy story from Stover.... and overall epic stories from Luceno and Zahn. Bookend the arc with Luceno and Zahn... so we get the epic beginning and end.... and then throw the others in the middle to tell the various different stories.

For the actual story itself.... I would like to see a conflict that ends up with Jagged Fel as Emperor finally and Jaina as his consort.... (secret or otherwise), or at least pregnant with his baby. We can have a split in Jedi philosophies to form the IK's, and the Treaty of Anaxes can result in it. I look forward to seeing the GA, Jagged's Empire and the Jedi Order working togethor against an enemy.

My dreamteam would be Zahn, Luceno, Stackpole, and Kathy Tyers. Zahn and Luceno would be great with plotting the series; Stackpole would be especially good with stories involving heavy battles and would add humor, and Tyers would be great at the parts of the story involving the greatest characterization, dialogue, and some romance, I think.

Kathy Tylers--Balance Point & Truce @ Bakura. I don't remember her short stories for Tales from Empire & Cantina etc.. But I did enjoy Balance Point. ALOT! I will go as far to say that IT's not the situation that made BP so good but combo of writing & scenerio.. Bakura has grown on me. I hated it for years. I attempted to read it about 3 times before i forced it & was delighted that it was smooth etc... But i can't add her to my dream team for the main reason of lack of important/dire material.. Cool though. It's cool that she was mentioned..

--I was reading teh thread & realized i left out Troy Denning.. Going into Invincible or even into Betrayal he was my fav author. Atleast top 3. The last 15 pages of Invincible musta really PO'd me cause he didn't even enter my mind when i put my top 4 down. IMO what he did for Dark Nest is perfect for his style. If we we're to get a series similar to the threads suggestion than i'd admit that Troy Denning would be perfect for a standalone 350+ page book like a pre-series standalone. err, a introduction etc to the events of said series... I thought DN set up Betrayal & LOTF nicely..

-Dave Wolverton--Was Courtships success/popularity due to the writer or the setting/scenrio? Sure it had a new planet with a Imp prison & the locals are force using women & they tame rancors. Add in the crashed Chuunthor(sp), A unique Han Solo, a new super weapon etc etc... Curious to why we haven't seen more form DW.. And would he work out for something in the future? Courtship was one of those reads that i put off for about a decade and was really rewarded when i put in the time..

Luceno- I left him out simply because i didn't like The Dark Lord enough. I thought the setting had uber potential & it kinda fell short. I have been waiting for years to read about Vaders adventures/ adjustments to being a sith & the armor etc.. TDL was a good read but IMO it shoulda been up there with Traitor,Shatterpoint,HTTE,SOTE etc.. But i wouldn't be upset 1 bit if a new series had Luceno in it..

I forgot to add Allston to do the Rogue Wraith Antilles stuff with Stackpole.... in fact I might even replace Stackpole with Allston, tough to say... I prefered the Rogue Squadron X-Wing books to Allston's Wraiths, however I prefer Allston's Del Rey contributions to Stackpoles Dark Tide.
