"Michael P. Kube McDowell: Revisiting the Black Fleet Crisis made me realize just how excellent an author he is, particularly on the political end of things. If someone could make us see and understand the inner workings of the Imperial Remnant, its he."
Oh God please no... No more politics and inner workings of the Imperial Remnant. If I wanted to read a military book I'd stop in that section of the bookstore. Those are two things we very much don't need more details on... unless you want an alternative to sleeping pills.
Isn't this thread a bit similar to one I started a couple of months ago? LOL. In any case, my picks are:
Keyes - what else is there to say?
Luceno - duh!
A.C. Crispin -- we need more strong non-Jedi characters going forward.
Roger MacBride Allen -- just look at his impact his Corellian trilogy had for future stories.
Denning would have been a lock until Invincible. I just know he had a heavy hand in Jacen's fate and I can't forgive the rushed job on it!
I also wouldn't mind seeing some new blood, so long as they do their homework and know the EU (at the very least the Del Rey era).

I don't really want a 12 book series. 9 was pushing it. I WOULD however like more single author trilogies. Those are my favorites.
If I were to list the authors that I particularly like, I'd say Karpyshyn, Luceno, and Traviss. Does that make me a bad person?

No...we all have different, personal tastes, I like Karpshyn and Traviss.

Stover (for graphic detail and deepening our perspective on the Force as more than "just a tool")
Zahn (for continuity, clarity, and evoking that classic SW feel we all know and love)
Keyes (for his applications of the Force and good characterizations)
Luceno (for writing up the Jedi as only he can)
I'd hesitate on Allston only because of his Corellia-centric bias in LOTF, and I still won't forgive Traviss for ruining my image of Boba "Last One Standing" Fett, or Denning for insinuating that the New Sith were out and about even while another Skywalker was going dark and making a fool of himself...

Matt Stover writes Star Wars the way Shakespeare wrote Hamlet. "I have been trained in your Jedi arts by Lord Tyranus himself!" "Do you mean Count Dooku? What a curious coincidence. I trained the man who killed him."

No, but two of the three say standalones, but you like that so it works for you...
---I'm ok with your list except Traviss. Guess i kinda wan't a explanation from a really diehard Traviss fans perspective.
Aaron Allston admits his manlove for Wedge Antilles & it shows in his writing how much he likes him as a friends to others, general & pilot etc. I'll use Rebel Stand & Dream as examples. Wedge wasn't over the top, not able to anything besides just be a BA general/former ace pilot... The Mando's we're really owning bigtime in her last book...To each his own eh? We need side books like RC's & Old Sith books like Bane etc. But to rate & value them above the main storyline, isn't that pushing it?
----Curious to know what it is about Karpyshyn that fans like.

Well, this is the Expanded Universe--expanding the universe is about more than the "main storyline" in my eyes. In fact, my two favorite series are X-Wing and Republic Commando, neither of which is the "main storyline" of the GFFA. XW touches on it with the capture of Coruscant and the chase for Zsinj, but that's really about it. I would argue we've gotten too much main storyline overall, what with Dark Nest and LotF both focusing primarily on the galactic-level conflicts and too little on the universe itself.
