If this covers background info for the Legacy comic series, consider me a happy man.
My only reason for slight trepidation is that John Ostrander is not the author, but so long as they consult with him and don't screw up any continuity I will be happy.
Thoughts?

Hell yes. I only wish it was coming out this year, but oh well. Though who are the authors, as though I'm not that good with names, but I have no idea who any of the three of them are? I hope it covers background information like the Sith-Imperial War, or even better, has nice bios on all the Legacy era ships. I'd love a detailed bio for the Scythe and Advanced Star Destroyer.
With this and KotOR coming out, guess I better start pre-ordering. And hopefully there won't be too many continuity problems.

There's really not that much to screw up in the comics era. That's the fun of having a single, recent source.
...Well, OK, they could have Krayt only being a Sith because Vergere talked to him. But hopefully they won't do that

I worry that they'll try to include the LotF novel era.

I know it's the same era, technically, but for all practical purposes they're very different, and there's this inconvenient 100-year long gap in the middle. It's like having half a sourcebook for two different time periods.

Though who are the authors, as though I'm not that good with names, but I have no idea who any of the three of them are?
Rodney Thompson once started out as a huge Star Wars RPG fanatic over at http://www.swrpgnetwork.com/ . Now, he is in the Star Wars staff over at WotC.
from Wizards of the Coast:
Sterling Hershey is an architect and freelance game designer. He regularly creates Star Wars Miniatures and Starship Battles scenarios and previews for the Wizards of the Coast web site. Past products include the Scenario Book for the Attack on Endor Scenario Pack. He is also one of the authors of the upcoming The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide and Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition. You can read more about gaming in a galaxy far, far away in his starwars.com blog, Delusions of Grandeur. Sterling lives in the Midwest with his wife, Mary.
Gary Astleford is a freelance writer who has many RPG books to his name (link)

I think I'd actually prefer a focus on LOTF over Legacy, since the former is in serious need of fleshing out, patching up, and other assorted gerunds that sourcebooks are good at.

Well, the Legacy comics could also use some fleshing out, though there aren't that many (or any) errors to fix in the comics so far. And the sooner LotF is forgotten, the better, I say. Though if they cover both LotF and Legacy, wonder how much they can do about that century gap or so, since... I assume things would change a lot between LotF's era and the Legacy comics era.

Sometimes it seems more accurate to say that he is the Star Wars Staff at WotC.
I'll believe this book is coming out when someone apart from Amazon claims that it's real. Just to make sure I don't get dissapointed.

It's always good to see a Star Wars product in WotC's capable hands... maybe we'll finally discover the truth behind Jacen Skywalker!
Ah, I shouldn't gripe. At least the KotOR sourcebook is guaranteed to be good and, hey, maybe this sourcebook *won't* mess about with canon? Who knows?

I understand, but I have to point out that Amazon was also first to post about The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide, and the KotOR Campaign Guide. They also have a Clone Wars Campaign Guide up, which has not been announced anywhere else, but I have great faith in Amazon's announcements (save for the Carrie Fisher book that is... )

I'm not familiar with Gary Astlefords work, but both Rodney Thompson and Sterling Hershey have been at this for years, and really know their stuff. I think we're in safe hands.
And you're being a tad unfair on Wizards - admittedly, the recent Behind the Threat article was poorly researched, but I think the other material WotC have been giving us - MESTOP, Bounty Postings, and the excellent Dawn of Defiance campaign (with chapters written by such big names as Abel Pena and John Jackson Miller) - more than makes up for it. Yes, these are of more interest to those with a gaming bent, but that's just how it is.

I kind of worry that they won't.
I'm really excited about this sourcebook, personally.
