nothing new get's put on wookieepedia, does it? If I'm forking out 20 pounds for a book i want more than stats. With the talent trees etc i could build them myself. I don't want a compendium of statistics, I also want new material.

How much new stuff do you need? I'd be happy getting stats for things that already exist.

Oh, yeah, because I just have tons of free time to be making up talent trees. I'm lucky I have time to do basic prep for game beforehand and that most weeks I can actually be free on game night. My free time is a heck of a lot more valuable to me than $20-40 dollars.

If we were talking about totally new never-before-published material, that's one thing, which can be good, but pages of bios for characters I can look up on the Wook or a whole chapter recapping the main timeline of the comics or novels would drive me up the ******* wall. If it exists on the Wook, I don't want it duplicated in the sourcebook.

Exactly, nobody wants more bios that simply rehash stuff everyone already knows. But what made the WEG books great was that they didn't just rehash but had new material. The bios included events never seen anywhere else, there were entirely new characters created with backstories given, new short stories were included, etc. If the new Legacy campaign guide were written in the WEG style, I think I'd be in seventh heaven.

You misread what I meant. I mean, just give us the talent trees in a stat book with maybe an era notes paragraph block too, because we're all capable of building our own characters, heck, look at what the guys on the wizards board as well as Nar Cranor and Tron did prior to the release and announcement of SAGA

I don't want it repeated either. I would prefer original material. Like I said, something that ties up some loose ends from LotF or makes connections between LotF and Legacy... or a reason why the Legacy Sith went tattoo mad, etc etc. I don't want to be told for the millionth time that Luke helped his father return to the light aboard the second death star, blahdeblahdeblah. I'd only want bios if there was new info to be had. Katarn helping out Daye Azur-Jamin for instance. Where IK armour originates from, things like that

You make some very good points, but I think it all repends on whether you guy these books for RPing or background info. WEG's strength was that it regularly included both, so that regardless of what type of fan you were you got something out of it.
I think that many fans (at least on these boards) are more interested in the sourcebook aspect of these types of books, not the RP side.
That is not to say you don't have completely valid points. If I were an avid RPer, I would also want stats, talent trees, etc.
Hopefully we do get a blended book so that everyone is happy.

In respect of the Second Galactic Civil War? Ummm... like... everything about it.
Compared to the Clone Wars or the original Galactic Civil War its currently a footnote. Fluff is what makes things memorable in the Essential Chronologies of tomorrow instead of them becoming footnotes from the books of yesteryear that have been forgotten.
Frankly, I blame the lack of support material for the NJO for why hardly any of the new designs that were created during it came back in LOTF, causing LOTF to feel like something of a time warp. If it wasn't for a bit of fluff in a WEG book I daresay the E-Wing would still just be a badly drawn X-Wing from a panel in Dark Empire.
In contrast, WOTC have mostly just given us X-Wing and Y-Wing stats for the millionth time, all because they keep changing the rulebook and forcing us to buy new stat books that just contain the same fluff, rather than building on one set of core rules with lots of new stuff the way WEG used to. I want stats with supporting fluff for things like ChaseXs, YT-5100s, Eta-5s and so on... not just stats for TIE Defenders with the same fluff we've read a million times before again just because they've changed the starship engagement rules again.
And let's not forgotten Shadows of Mindor will have begun as a piece of fluff.

I want it all, I don't see what the problem is about producing a book that has new material AND stats in it. WEG did it and released god-knows-how-many sourcebooks with Zahn, Denning et al involved, Wizards just need to expand their horizons.

That's what published adventures are supposed to be for. With RPG publishers, it's always more money I'm afraid.
I would want to see some more infor on the details and some things patched up, however, I don't want any larger scale explanations is a book about the universe, and not a story itself.

Oh, absolutely. I meant that the Wook doesn't (nor should) add original material. It's not the Wook's right or responsibility to retcon, connect dots, polish rough edges, answer questions--the Wook just states established facts. But, anytime I see the word "Sourcebook", I always hope that I'm going to read something NEW.
But, yeah, you're right. Reading about all that Cade did--basically just a retelling of the first few arcs of Legacy--would be very boring. Now, if they revealed some things he did during his stint with the Order or as a pirate, now THAT would be nice.

Nothing for nothing, regardless on anyone's stance on the sourcebooks, the bottom line is that you need to have the actual material, becuase most of the time not every tid bit of the subject matter that is being covered is added to the sourcebook. It also soon becomes outdated since the EU is constantly being updated. This sourcebook will be like the KOTOR one. Most of the information is prior stuff that has come out, but by the time we get the book we will be way out of Vector onto something else. I also don't buy all the stats, bio's and stuff like that becuase, it is sometimes intrprid wrong, or different opionion. This needing to sensless ret-cons that not evry star wars fan follow. Perfect example, jet/rocket packs. In the sourcebooks it stats that you can only fly 70 meter vertically and probably 100 meters horizontally, but in one of the Boba Fett books, Boba fly's with it for 20 kilometers, which is roughly 10 miles, and like it said in the book, Boba went up, up, up, and up. He even flew from the jedi temple all the way to the senate building. If we go by the stats, he shouldn't be able to do it, but yet he pulled a semi-iron man. Even if we go by the roll dice method and increase 10 meters per role, being successful, that still won't be enough. Heck, one mile is approximately 5280 meters or something like that, most commercial airplanes fly at approximately 6 miles from the ground. According to the book, Boba not only can fly up, up, up, but he can go, long , long , long.

Which is why rpg sourcebooks are superceded by in-story events in a conflict, as per Leland Chee.
Chee: "Conversely, I think it would be a determinent if books were artificially limited by game stats. So I would agree that a book is going to overrule a stat if there is a contradiction."

QFT!!!
The WEG books added depth, maybe it's down to a pretty limited creative hand enforced by the canon-enforcers, who knows? If the other million things statted out don't have any depth to them then no one's going to choose it over an x-wing or tie interceptor or something are they?
I haven't viewed the 'plan' for the NJO distributed with TUF hardcovers, but a revamped RCRB NJO book expanding on details that may have been penned within that plan would have been immense, now of course nothing NJO is going to be done again now so the whole series from what, Balance Point onwards(?) is going to be left untouched.

Hmm...
I'd rather this focus solely on Legacy, I think. LotF is desperately in need of fleshing out, to be sure, but not in the same way that Legacy is. LotF demands the sort of approach taken with, say, the GoDV books... it should be treated with respect, but with the full realization that it's fundamentally stupid and in need of severe retconning to be taken seriously. I'm sure any sourcebook (er, sorry, "campaign guide") won't be taking this approach, at least not this soon; it needs to be left alone for a couple years before that can happen.

Well I loved the Official Chronology, because it was informing and told you a brief description of everything that happened up to Legacy, and now I think they should focus on Legacy, since there is so much in the Legacy books to talk about. Also, I don't really like LOTF so much since ALL of the main characters are gone, and because it shares the same acronym as Lord of the Flies, but that's just me.
