Star Wars
The Clone Wars
Karen Traviss
Hardcover
272 pages
July 26, 2008
The story follows the heroic Jedi Knights as they struggle to maintain order and restore peace during the tumultuous Clone Wars. More and more systems are falling prey to the forces of the dark side as the Galactic Republic slips further and further under the sway of the Separatists and their never-ending droid army. Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano find themselves on a mission with far-reaching consequences, one that brings them face-to-face with crime lord Jabba the Hutt. But Count Dooku and his sinister agents, including the nefarious Asajj Ventress, will stop at nothing to ensure that Anakin and Ahsoka fail at their quest. Meanwhile, on the front lines of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda lead the massive clone army in a valiant effort to resist the forces of the dark side.

Not the best start.
I'm not sure if I'll be getting these novelizations since I'm going to see the movie, watch the show and purchase The Clone Wars on DVD. I think I'll allocate my cash to something else Clone Wars. The comic if it's not too Clone Wars Adventures-ish and Shipyards of Doom if it isn't a novelization or too much like Clone Wars Adventures. I want long stories.

I still hate the fact that Anakin has a Padawan.

Hmm. Does Traviss seem an odd choice for this novelization, or is it just me? Either way, I'm not sure I'll see the movie, but I'll probably pick this up.

Hooray to the first hardcover of the year I'm not getting!
The second hardcover I won't be getting also has a clone trooper's helmet for a cover.

Well, I am one of the few who actually posts here not to complain about Traviss's work, as I actually enjoy the Mandos and the clones (ok, I'm not the only one). Although I don't think I'll rush to buy this one since I'll probably want to see the movie/TV show first, I know I'll end up buying it, even with the low page count, simply because, at least after reading the ROTS novelization, I have found that reading the novelization of the movie definitely gives you more insight to what is going on in the story.
So I'm looking forward to it.

Eh, I wasn't complaining about Traviss. Her stuff just seems more serious most of the time, and The Clone Wars seems aimed at a younger audience, is all. My lack of interest is in the movie itself, not Traviss.

They haven't even released an official book tour date set or set of cities yet, have they?
I'm...surprised...that they went for that cover image. I wonder if we'll see a change to O66's cover.
The PR campaign for this seems rather shambolic, and made worse by the author not even being able to say anything due to lack of comment by the publisher or license holder since she's under NDA to not reveal anything until the publisher does, even when more info has been released via slip-ups (including the very existence of the book) than any official annoucement.

Wow, that cover is uninspired. All that beautiful imagery and they choose a white helmet on a white background?
I love Traviss' work with the clonetrooper characters so I'm holding out hope that the writing had a better muse than the artwork meant to say, "Pick me up; I'm a cool book!"

I honestly considered putting
(This is where the summary will go, if we ever get one.)
into the first post, but then I remembered that the TOS Blog had a press release that contained some info.

What we know about it, really, we know only because of releases about the plot of the movie/series which we know it's adapting. Little to nothing has actually been released about the major tie-in book to the major movie that kicks off the major book series tying in to the major series that the major movie kicks off.
Heck, there's been extremely little advertising for the upcoming movie and series themselves. Get on the ball, LFL.

In general, there really hasn't been much PR at all about even the movie.
I'm curious enough to buy this - Karen Miller seems to clearly be in the role of Allston to Traviss's Stackpole for the series, and I suspect this book will for better or worse set the tone for all five. If it's at least mediocre, I'll give Miller a try too.
In general, I think if Traviss manages to remember that the Deltas are not main characters outside their own plot, it could be very good indeed. But we'll see. Of course, if the movie ends up sucking, there's not a great deal the novelization can do about it.

Why are they ressurecting the Clone Wars era, again?
I'm sorry, but it's extremely boring. Especially since we've seen its beginning in Episode II, its end in Episode III, and a bunch of disjointed stories no one cares about for the three years in between. Adding to that it was a pointless war which shouldn't have been fought, with plenty of meaningless suffering and death, with Palpatine winning either way, and it really just makes even the acts of bravery and heroic sacrifices seem hollow.
The only way they can bring energy and enthusiasm back to this era is by creating wacky stuff like Anakin having a padawan, and condensing all previous Clone War material into only a year to make room for this stuff. Which will probably still fail utterly.
Am I the only one with zero enthusiam for more Clone Wars?
