Traviss' website is updated, and it looks like the O66 cover is out, to be replaced by a new one (and the "loosely-based" bit would seem to be important for those who care, since she's basically saying this will NOT be a straight adaption):
Karen Traviss' Website posted: NEWS - new series, new books, new covers
Yes, there is a NEW SERIES out this month, and judging by the mail I'm getting, folks don't seem to realise what it is. There's a NEW FIVE-BOOK STAR WARS SERIES for adult readers based on the Clone Wars movie and TV cartoon show, and I'm writing three of them. But because the movie and the TV show are for the youngsters, and I write adult fiction, then you can deduce that the novels will show you stuff you won't see on screen. (This is separate from the young adult books that are also being published. ) With me so far? Good.
CLONE WARS, the hardcover based on the movie - loosely based, so no griping that it's different, please, because that's the whole point - is out on July 26. Full of the gritty, off-message, character-testing, question-raising, grey-area, military-oriented stuff you've come to expect from me. And clones. Plenty of clones. And familiar characters from the movies that you won't see quite the same way ever again.
My good buddy Karen Miller is writing the other two novels. She doesn't write predictable, lightweight stuff either, so stand by for a challenging series that will make you take another fresh look at the Clone Wars.
I'll be pimping the books at Comic Con in San Diego, July 24 - 27, with a short book tour immediately afterwards. I'll post cities and dates when they're all confirmed.
OTHER STUFF
A word on other upcoming novels for everyone who's asked; yes, I have plenty of new books coming up, and they're obviously not all going to be Star Wars. But you know the drill - I can't talk about them until they're announced by the publisher, even when they're listed on bookseller sites. Sorry. Bookmark this page and check back from time to time for the latest official news.
In the meantime, it's just over two months to ORDER 66, book four in the Republic Commando series, out September 15. Stand by for a few surprises. And please note that the cover will not look like the one shown- check back here soon for the final version.

You know after reading what Karen posted on her website, I'm going to dial up some excitement for this series. It's got loads of potential.

I like Traviss alot but Im still not interested in these books at all. Maybe its just me, but I feel like theyve already squeezed out every last drop from what is essentially a three year era in SW history. Ill probably see what the general consensus is after the first couple of books come out before I decide to jump in.

OK, I'm going to withhold judgment until I read it, but I'm even more ambivalent on this than I was before, which shouldn't even be possible.

Really, I wasn't originally planning on getting this, but that last sentence alone is enough to make me want to read this, if only to see what she's going to do to them that would warrant saying something like that...

Attack of the Clones was released May 16, 2002. Star Wars: Republic covered the Clone Wars starting Jan 22, 2003. What's the next big Star Wars project? Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Fall 2008.

Not the best start.
I'm not sure if I'll be getting these novelizations since I'm going to see the movie, watch the show and purchase The Clone Wars on DVD. I think I'll allocate my cash to something else Clone Wars. The comic if it's not too Clone Wars Adventures-ish and Shipyards of Doom if it isn't a novelization or too much like Clone Wars Adventures. I want long stories.
NO NO NO... that's NOT at all what I meant. I didn't mean never mind the book. I posted something, to which I decided I didn't want to say, and then wrote "never mind" because I didn't know how to delete the post. I was saying never mind my post.
Ahhh jeez. Sorry!! I was just saying that the cover minded me of Karen's Order 66 hardcover cover and the art of OTC cover. It's pretty striking and should stand out on bookshelves.

No worries, Fanboyskywalker. I think we knew (nevermind) didn't refer to the book in question.

Well, the fall of the OJO kind was due to a certain amount of Jedi incompetence.

More of a result of the actions of a certain sith lord, not regular failings, but I see your point.

In other words, Anakin and Obi-Wan will look like fools compared to the Godly Clones.
I think I'm going to pass on this, based on who is writing it.

Well, hm. Looks like speculation that Karen Traviss is remaking the Clone Wars era in her own image is right on.
My hopes are -
1)Existing "humanization" of the clones and glorification of their culture will extend to the true Jedi culture, as well as the Separatists. As far as the Seps go, Traviss is among the best of current authors - as far as orthodox Jedi go, among the worst.
2)The war will be treated as more dangerous: i.e. - the heroes lose sometimes and are sometimes on the run. If ESB was written using the existing Clone Wars mindset, the Rebels would have won the Battle of Hoth, driven the Empire off Bespin, and blown up the Executor before teatime. I'd like the Seps to have a honest, non-Sidious mediated victory or three. It will make the whole war much more plausible and interrupt the neverending stream of "oh no, we're outnumbered but we win completely anyway" Jedi victories. Triple Zero's extremely abrupt conclusion makes me concerned about this, as does Traviss's low opinion of battle droids.
3)Serious, interesting, recurring villains. Bonus points for taking Dooku seriously as a Sith Lord, though that's a long shot with any author.
I'll be buying and reviewing day of release figure I'll probably be able to tell within the first few chapters whether the adult novel series is going to be worthwhile.

And with that statement, I will not even be bothering with her books in the series. Sigh, I can see it now. Clones are people too, but they're better than everyone. Jedi are incompetent, except those that want to train to be Mando. Kal Skirata is God. Somehow she'll fit all that crap in there.
