In general, there really hasn't been much PR at all about even the movie.
In general, I think if Traviss manages to remember that the Deltas are not main characters outside their own plot, it could be very good indeed. But we'll see. Of course, if the movie ends up sucking, there's not a great deal the novelization can do about it.

The lack of PR about the movie is getting into the "really, really curious and not at all hopeful" category. There aren't many reasons to hold back PR besides the final product not being all that great, and I can't remember any LFL product where we've gotten so little information.

I'm confused by the Delta remark. If you mean RC's in general, this sounds like a straight adaption. There may be some alterations of events depending on what script was worked from (as with all adaptions, tie-in writers tend not to have the latest scripts, which is why cut-scenes often end up in adaptions and not in the movies), and maybe a sub-plot to stretch things out, but the story should be the same as the movie.

I do think it's more than possible for a book to surpass the original material, as James Luceno and Brian Daley showed with their Jack McKinney Robotech novels, FWIW and IMO.

Wow, that cover is uninspired. All that beautiful imagery and they choose a white helmet on a white background?

The saddest part is that it's not even a patch on the O66 cover, which while I didn't think was the best of the lot as far as what previous covers have been (I still think RC:TC's is excellent and a nice reimagining of a piece of concept art), it actually tried to convey something with the reflected flames and blood. This is just...a helmet. On white. Sitting there.

Maybe if they had done a FULL METAL JACKET poster riff it would have worked, but not like this.

I still hate the fact that Anakin has a Padawan.

I have to agree. There is nothing that could make me believe in it, short of her being mentioned in ROTS. I don't mind new characters being placed in areas already explored by the movies. But this one...it's too big of a....what seems like a retcon...
I also don't like the idea of this padawan possibly changing how I've been perceiving Anakin in ROTS. Sorry to say...but I'm out. Every time I hear Luke and Obi-Wan talking about the Clone Wars in ANH, the words "Clone Wars" make me shiver, and sound like a magical thing. I don't think the reality is going to live up to what I imagine in my heart. But that's alright. I can't expect that.

I'm a little nervous about the lack of publicity myself, especially considering the ad blitz we had for the prequels. tongue

In any event, Miss Traviss has proven herself more than adept at writing Clone characters; I'm quite looking forward to her renditions of Captain Rex and Cody. Obi-Wan and Anakin, on the other hand...we'll just wait and see, shall we?

Call me skeptical, but I get the feeling that a there will be quite a bit of narrative from the clones' perspective, musing about how Anakin and Obi-Wan are weak and inferior to Mandalorians.

What we know about it, really, we know only because of releases about the plot of the movie/series which we know it's adapting. Little to nothing has actually been released about the major tie-in book to the major movie that kicks off the major book series tying in to the major series that the major movie kicks off.

Heck, there's been extremely little advertising for the upcoming movie and series themselves. Get on the ball, LFL.

I was pretty surprised to see a trailer for the film when I went to see Get Smart a couple of weeks ago --- it was the only advertising for it I've seen outside of the official site. To be fair, though, there's still a month and a half left, and that's plenty of time to generate interest in a film. Whether or not they'll actually make an effort to generate that interest remains to be seen, though...

If the final product isn't that great, don't we usually see the blockbuster effect, where they advertise it like mad so that everyone will see it opening weekend? See: 10, 000 BC.

We've really only seen the white background on visual dictionaries and the like, haven't we? I feel like the 3-D Anakin and Ahsoka on the cover would generate a lot more interest to the general reader, otherwise, seeing the book in the bookstore will likely make your average Joe Public assume it's some sort of sourcebook about the Clone Wars.

Yes, this looks much more like a DK Visual Guide than a novel.

As to the non-PR, god only knows, it's unusual to get so little actual information, and the lack of website support, stuttered roll-out of tie-in material, and general "Oh, crap, Random House announced the book, whip up a PR release!" sense from the whole thing makes me wonder where exactly the breakdown is.

Anyone know if the usual fast food chain suspects are doing anything with this?

I mean, it just seems like a weird promotion cycle. The blockbuster effect only happens if they have the budget to do the media blitz, but either way, there's no real reason to be coy.

I will say that the animation is looking a LOT better than the early stuff we saw. Little thing like light bloom effects and shadowing have been modified greatly. The real test will be how much promotion this gets at SDCC, as it will be their last chance to really push this.

I don't know. It seems rather like the rest of LFL has been caught flat-footed by the quick rollout of the animated series and the unexpected movie decision. It's scheduled and ready to go, but the promotion isn't there for it. The tie-in material is profuse but unpromoted and seems to have been hastily contracted. We know DH is playing catch-up, putting two series on hiatus and disrupting the effect of their big promotion in order to get tie-ins out. It seems the same way for the rest of the Clone Wars subfranchise.

I still think that this will be good. Well, it better be becuase if its not, star wars will be going down hill from here. Cuase not too many fans are going to hang out for the live action. By the way, we all knew from back then (2005) that GL was going to do more clone wars stuff. Why now the somber postings? Didn't you guys know that already?

I'm probably going to sound incredibly dense but this book is the novelization of the Clone Wars movie, correct?

I just heard about this a week or so ago.

Yes. And then there are four more books under contract. Two by Karen Miller and two by Karen Traviss, alternating, although the announcement on those didn't clarify whether we'd be seeing adaptions or original stories.

Eh, I wasn't complaining about Traviss. Her stuff just seems more serious most of the time, and The Clone Wars seems aimed at a younger audience, is all. My lack of interest is in the movie itself, not Traviss.

The kids can read the young adult novelization.

Very similar to the cover of Order 66...

An apprentice for Anakin is intriguing. I wonder if Obi-Wan will get a new one, too.

So can I expect the regular clone trooper/mando bias that Traviss has? Because if I have to read dikut and Skirata every other word, I'm not reading this book.

Even though I like Traviss' work this just seems like a rehash of everything else we've already seen and read about the Clone Wars. Ill be skipping this one for now, and maybe Ill pick up the paperback next year if I hear exceptional things about it.
