I'd forgotten about that and just assumed you were referring to the train itself.

For the Brits among us, Karen Traviss throws quite a few infamous Tony Blair quotes in LOTF.
"Tough on Crime, tough on the Cause of crime" becomes "Tough on Terrorism, tough of the causes of Terrorism" in Bloodlines.
Also, "I really do feel the hand of History on my shoulder" Caedus to Shevru in Revelation.
From the same novel, the Mando ballard translated "No one likes us we don't care" a common Football Chant fro certain Football Clubs.
Oh, and the Bolo-Ball Tournament= World Cup/Euro 2008

I wish there was more about Bolo-Ball in the novels. I'm a big ManU fan and live in the states. Needless to say there's isn't much footie in popular media so seeing it in SW gives me great joy. ESPN tried REALLY hard to get people interested in MLS in the states when Beckham came over to the Galaxy, but it didn't take. I don't know how they'd expect to get anyone in America interested in the sport by watching Americans play it. By comparison to Barclay's Premiership (BEST football on the planet), MLS is like watching a bunch of monkeys in soccer shorts running around the pitch. Sure they're on the field and kicking the ball, but they're not REALLY playing football.
An "interesting" aside, before Beckham ever stepped foot on the pitch, all the ladies at my mothers office kept asking me all about David. They thought he was SOO hott and wanted to be authorities on the latest british sex-symbol to reach the states. That is, until he opened his mouth. Apparently, it doesn't matter how sexy a man is if he sounds like a girl! I tried to explain to them that many of the British soccer players (and i suppose british men in general), very masculine and well built athletes, have a softer and more feminine voice than most American men would choose to speak with. I showed them an interview with Wayne "The Manchild" Rooney and they couldn't stop laughing. Poor Manchild. But higher pitched voice or not, they're still awesome athletes.

Rereading Rite of Passage this evening I remembered, the Niktos and the Klatooinians both are a reference to The Day the Earth Stood still. "Klaatu barada nikto".

Probably not a very interesting one but in one of the middle LOTF novels there was a reference to a "certain tribe" who trained their students to care for and train a creature (A dog of some sort I believe) of their own, then at the end of their training they were forced to kill the poor thing, which reminded me of the tactics the SS used to make their members ruthless, where they'd have to strangle the puppy they'd been given to raise. Not sure how accurate a reference that is though, I'm not really an expert on Nazi Germany

George Martin used the same reference in his Song of Ice and Fire series; there the fighters also were eunuch slaves, dedicated to battle and knowing no other life.

the droid or person who worked for Jor'j Cardas, his name was a tribute to Anthony Daniels, who donned the costume for C-3PO.

There's Underlord Pehri in Jedi Twilight. Being head of Black Sun's a neat tribute to a friend, if you ask me.

It's a rather common urban legend. They've said the same thing about Navy SEALs, the Marines, and other groups with tough reputations.

Actually, he was introduced in Shadow Hunter, at which point he was a low-ranking member.
But he is based on the real Dal Perry, so you could say that making him Underlord in Jedi Twilight was a nice gesture.
